Irvine Public Schools Foundation

This is a review of IPSF’s summer school class only. This review is not about the foundation, which has done amazing things for the students in Irvine, including provide exceptional music classes.
I am completely unhappy with the two summer classes my boys took over the summer. The teachers did not teach what was promised in the class description. One teacher was not even credentialed and told me she had no experience teaching the subject she was teaching. There are SOOOOO MANY other options in Irvine. IPSF summer school teachers are a joke. They are there to just make some extra cash over the summer. No one really wants to TEACH the kids anything. My kids sat in an expensive three week class and got completely NOTHING out of it. Like I said, there are many other options in Irvine. Do not be fooled by IPSF classes promising great teachers. Most public teachers do not care (and I can say that because I actually am a credentialed teacher!!). They want a break over the summer. They do not want to teach your kids and will just waste time in the class. Hope you listen because I am out $ 700 and, honestly, my kids learned absolutely nothing. What was promised was not delivered at all.
Note: After I wrote this review, I called Michelle Luna (director of summer school at IPSF) and told her my concerns. She said she would review all that I told her and get back to me. I honestly didn’t think she would and was very impressed when I heard back from her. She took my concerns seriously and spoke to the instructor (and manager) and got back to me with a detailed email of the instructor’s «side» of the story. It gives me hope that IPSF strives to have a good summer program and is serious about making it better. Ms. Luna really listened to what I had to say and seems to take her job seriously and I think the program will improve each year. For that, I changed my one star to two stars.
