Not sure on this one. Read on please.
During a recent home improvement project, I was taking up some carpet and discovered possible asbestos on the floors. Project halted, calls to asbestos removal companies made.
PROS
— The owner Tom seems like a good guy. Personable, friendly.
— Tom came over within two hours of my call to take a look at the problem.
— Bottom line was our asbestos issue was taken care of (I hope).
CONS
— Tom initially quoted us around $ 1300, which turned into $ 1850.
— The quote was for 621 sq ft when we had only around 360. When we brought that up, Tom then told us the quote was not for square footage.
— The quote also included a heater closet, which was not affected nor was it ever inspected by Tom.
— The work crew came out a day early without notice. At 0730 in the morning.
— There was some residual material that the crew had to clean up on a second visit.
— Tom is a nice guy, but he could easily pass for a snake oil salesman.
— We had some carpet left in two rooms. Tom asked me to rip the carpet and tack strips up to make it easier on his crew. Wait a minute. So, you want me to possibly further expose myself and my family to disturbed asbestos?
— After bringing up issues with Tom, he gave us a discount on the «emergency letter» fee. Since our situation required quick resolution, we needed an «emergency letter» to the SCAQMD explaining why we needed a rapid response. Not sure if this is Tom’s fee or SCAQMD’s.
Essentially, just about everything that Tom told me either did not happen or was changed without notice. Nothing way over the top, but incovenient to say the least.
The whole experience was a little wierd. When Tom came over initially, he donned a painter’s mask and scraped up some samples with a dental tool and put them into a sandwich bag.

Right in the middle of a time critical project we ran into a big snag with some floor tiling. Project came to a screeching halt. Sadness. Reached out to Tom and he was incredibly responsive and accomodating. He helped us get through the abatement process quickly, efficiently and got us going again. He and the abatement team were very professional and did an amazing job. That project got back on track and I’m thrilled with the way Tom and team delivered. Highly recommend. Thank you Tom!

I write plenty of critical reviews on Unilocal so it’s a pleasure to write a positive one once in a while. I called today before 9am and Thomas picked up on the first ring. I had just bought an old house and was preparing to do attic work when someone mentioned possible asbestos issues in attic, which had not occurred to me. Thomas was very helpful, professional and courteous on the phone. But he suggested that he’d need to see the house and possibly get some samples done to make proper determination of the asbestos threat. He met me an hour later at the house.
After a very thorough walk through of the house which took over an hour, he said «You really don’t have a problem here and there’s nothing I need to do for you.» Now, I have bought quite a few homes for investments in past few years and I am always running into service professionals who prey on fear, uncertainty and doubt to get you to buy their services, whether it’s necessary or not. I have been quoted thousands of dollars for a 2 hour job anyone can do themselves with $ 20 in materials. As an asbestos job can easily run in the tens of thousands, it’s rare to run into someone who essentially says «Don’t pay me to do anything because there’s nothing wrong with the house.» I salute Thomas for his character and then offered to pay for him to run some samples but he said «Samples are not really necessary — I can see that the ducts and pipes are fine. If they weren’t I’d tell you.» I then offered him some gas money for making him come out for nothing, to which he replied «My office is close by, so don’t worry about it.»
They don’t make them like Thomas anymore. In my book he gets an A for his professional knowledge, attention to detail and courteousness. And more importantly he gets an A+ for integrity. I only wished that every service professional was like him or even half as good. When I save up and do a more extensive remodel which will involve opening the walls and demolishing parts of the house, you can bet he will be getting my call.

We are in escrow for a Condo in Irvine, the home inspector sited a transite pipe for the water heater as being made of asbestos. I wanted a second opinion and found Asbestos Removal and Transport on Unilocal.I called and Thomas was very helpful on the phone, answered all of my questions. When he came out to inspect the Condo, I was impressed by his knowledge and willingness to inspect the entire condo again for asbestos. He didn’t try to sell me on using his company’s services, the condo inspection was free. We will be having Thomas come back to the condo once escrow closes to test a heater closet and vent that may contain asbestos as well. Thomas even told me where I can get the material tested for asbestos if I wanted to make it a DIY project. Hopefully the testing comes back negative for asbestos, but we will be using his company to remove the transit pipe, his quote for that project was $ 100 cheaper than another company that I emailed in LA.

I called Thomas to test a popcorn ceiling for asbestos on a condo we just purchased. His pricing was lower and fair compared to other companies I contacted. Thomas was very professional, picked up the phone the first time I called and was very quick at returning back my emails and calls. We scheduled the sample extraction the next day and I got the results from the testing lab 24 hours later. We found out our ceiling was asbestos free, good thing! I was impressed at how fast the procedure went. He is just very good at following up.
If you are looking for an honest, knowledgeable, professional contractor, I would highly recommend him!

I called Thomas today to get an estimate for asbestos removal. He happened to be nearby and came within 30 min. since we spoke. He was friendly, kind and extremely helpful. He mentioned the proper avenues to take when dealing with the hazard on our hands.
Although we never set up an appointment or made a deal, he was concerned with the problem and gave us ideas that we could use in the meantime. His advice was extremely beneficial. It was geared toward helping a homeowner find the path to fixing the problem rather than just presenting a sales pitch and seeing where it lands.

My husband and I recently bought a house. During a flooring estimate, we were told we may have asbestos tile under the carpeting we were looking to get removed. We also had «popcorn» ceiling in the garage. I searched Unilocal for asbestos services and found Thomas’s company. I contacted Thomas and he came out the same day! We are doing a remodel for a client in Brea and she had some work done a couple years back and discovered asbestos, so before we start the remodel we wanted to make sure there wasn’t any asbestos. This company was very easy to work with and very trust worthy. We got the testing done quickly and for a good price. We had major issues with Asbestos in our home my wife and I are DYI’s so we did the removal but needed to have the Asbestos hauled away… We called and emailed all kinds of companies some returned our calls and emails most sounded sketchy and untrustworthy and the price WOW crazy high!!! until we called eWaste Disposal we even talked with the owner and he was upfront with everything and the price was awesome compared to the others… I suggest if anyone needs a good hazardous waste hauler they are the company hands down!!!

Gave them a call about disposing of some florescent lights and alkaline batteries. The person who answered told me to throw the batteries in the garbage and they would charge to pick up the lights! I asked if there is a drop off center and they said no. I found that there are places sponsored by Orange County that has FREE hazardous waste drop offs for the residents of the OC. So why pay this guy to pick it up and have them dump it god knows where?

My wife and I bought an old house and it had that ugly popcorn ceiling (asbestos) so we had it removed… buy a contractor saying he was a asbestos certified company but this was a shady contractor I found out after the fact!!! They did the work, I paid him and he said he would be back in the morning to pick up and dispose of the asbestos debris… Well this guy cashed his check that night and basically skipped out of town leaving me with ASBESTOS HAZARDOUS WASTE sitting in my front yard…
We went on some search sites and even called several places for a quote.
We’re glad we found eWaste Disposal. He gave us the best quote.

Fear Monger!
I called to inquire about disposing of a hot water heater asbestos cement flue pipe. Well, The gentleman on the phone tried scaring the heck out of me and jacking up the price of pickup and disposal. I received a quote of 400.00 to get rid of one 6 inch cement pipe 6 feet long. These types of pipes are some of the safest and have the least amount of asbestos.
I called around and after an hour or so I located an asbestos abatement business in Santa Fe Springs that took it for FREE and disposed of it for me
Stop the Fear Mongering and stop trying gouge people trying to get rid of Asbestos properly and safely.

We were doing a remodel when after pulling up the carpet we discovered cracked tile which could have been asbestos. We contacted Asbestos Removal, they suggested a test, we did do the test with a company in Westminster. It came back as asbestos. We had the waste bagged per instuctions, Asbestos Removal came right out, picked it up, gave us a receipt and disposed of the hazardous waste.

We needed to remove dangerous asbestos from our home and were having trouble finding a resposible and legal disposal site. We contacted eWaste Disposal in Orange County. I came here to dispose of my old 19″ piece of crud TV/​VCR combo! The workers were really nice. I just dropped it off, they took it, signed my name, and that was it! Simple! They also do pick-​up.
