Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 IMAX & RPX

So the power went out, in the whole theater. The 5 people working there had no idea what to do. Happy Father’s Day, I guess I’ll take the kids somewhere else and pay again at a later time to see the other half of the movie. Couldn’t wait any longer for them to figure it out. Had dinner res.
So on hot days it really isn’t that cool to see a movie.

This place takes 20min to get tickets in 104 degree weather in the sun. 9 windows and 2 attendants on Father’s Day. Your company execs should be embarrassed!

I had the pleasure of experiencing the VIP first class experience on the remodeled side of the theater. Spend a little extra for this. You won’t be disappointed. I felt so Royal. I absolutely loved being served wine and popcorn. The seats are so comfortable. It is very intimate and makes you feel like it’s your own little theater.
What a perfect addition to this beautiful movie house. The RPX is always a blast and IMAX.

Usually going to the Irvine Spectrum for a movie is really nice. But, on May 27^th, I went with friends to the 9:45 pm showing of Alice Through the Looking Glass in Theater 13, and we sat in seats i21, i22, and i23. This is an IMAX theather setup. ALL THREE seats were broken. This included, broken, crooked, and unusually low seat bottoms. I expected to see the movie in some comfort. What a waste of money. It’s especially sad since we thought this was a very good movie.

After 6 years of patronizing this theater, I have developed a love/​hate relationship with the Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21. Ticket lines can become outrageously long and unmanageable. The addition of liquor was a mistake because it seemingly takes forever for the staff to pour a drink or serve a beer.
Regal Entertainment offers some great, free promotional items with many movies. I check their app on my phone for specials and promotions. Someone keeps forgetting to tell the staff at the Spectrum because NO ONE hands out the collectible tickets or pins without begging.
Tonight, I bought an RPX ticket for «X-​Men: Apocalypse» and the cashier did not give me the promotional pin. I inquired at Customer Service and the rudest employee Regal has on staff suggested I buy one at the «Stars of Hope» table in the lobby. Seriously? $ 18.50 for a ticket and I have to buy the free promotional item?
Ironically, most of these items end up on the «freebie» table a week or two after a movie opens. I picked up two «London Has Fallen» collectible tickets from a stack of about 300 on the table. Why aren’t these getting into the hands of people who actually bought an IMAX ticket.

Dirty. In disrepair (torn seats). No picture on screen until I complained. Employees not friendly or helpful (especially the ticket taker/​bag check guy).

Have been to this theater before but it’s been a while. We went today to see X-​Men and it wasn’t as busy as we expected it to be but then again it was a long weekend and people may have had other plans.
The box office line was quick and the transaction was super easy. The young lady who sold us our tickets even reminded me that I had enough points to redeem for a free soda or popcorn.
Once inside we have our tickets to the gentleman who in turn asked to see inside my girlfriends purse… Uh oh busted! Or so we thought. After inquiring if they now check bags and letting him know we had candy, he surprisingly told us it was ok and it was for security reasons. That was pleasant surprise.
The lobby had huge ninja turtle figures that everyone was enjoying taking a picture with.
We were also offered concession gift cards for taking a 7 min survey. Usually we are skeptical of that stuff but my girlfriend and my son took them up on the offer and it was legit and not a huge hassle. Ended up not having to spend any $ at the concession stand between my free soda and the gift cards earned!
The theater seating is plush and comfortable with slight recline which makes the viewing experience awesome.
The theater we were in was clean tidy which is always appreciated.
Overall, a great movie experience.

Came here to watch The Jungle Book with a friend. It was quite busy here and the movie tickets are expensive. I got the gooey Cinnabon bites and I was very disappointed. I mean I guess that’s not really the theatre’s fault, but I definitely regretted purchasing it. It didn’t taste like Cinnabon at all. The Jungle Book was a pretty enjoyable film.

I’m not a fan of being cheated out of my money and you shouldn’t be either. Online and on the apps they don’t mention that this theater converted half of its auditoriums into «VIP» seats. Basically they charge you double the price to sit in a recliner and watch the movie with waiters. But although it’s nice, it’s not what everyone wants, however, they don’t care. They will have some movies playing only in VIP just to collect more money on an already heavily inflated ticket price. $ 17 for VIP ticket to sit in the auditorium, but then also $ 10 a plate for food once you get in! Expensive date spot!

I went here last night for a VIP movie. I highly recommend this! We had beer/​snacks and the reclining chairs are better than the ones at Fashion Island.
Tip: The VIP section has it’s own bar and you can order snacks/​drinks from the servers before the movie– you can skip the concession stand at the front. We noticed there was a different price for the beer– a dollar more for the same beer in VIP, but the front concession pours it from the bottle and it is 12 ounces, in the VIP section, it is a 16 ounce draft. The beer was reasonably priced (5.99 for the 12 ounce at concessions or 6.99 for the 16 ounce in VIP)
We had the soft pretzels with the dip for a snack and the white queso dip was SO good. We also had some nachos and cheese. If you choose one snack, I recommend you choose the pretzels.

My friend and I went to see a movie in the VIP theaters and it was so great! Each VIP movie is in its own dedicated theater and all the seats automatically recline to your taste and have footrests and a table that swivels like your favorite lazy boy chair. You can order food and drinks including cocktails, wine and beer either at your seat or at the bar at the entrance to the VIP area. They deliver everything right to your seat and you can order more as the movie goes on! All I needed to make it perfect was a blanket! The cost is a bit higher but it’s worth every penny!

This theater is so busy all the time! Get here early on the weekend because even if a movie is on its 2^nd or 3^rd week of being out it will be packed. They recently converted a lot of their theaters (almost half) to VIP. A ticket for this is around $ 17 for an adult.
Lines for concessions are VERY long so again get there early.
I downloaded their app and decided to check movie times— beware when using the app it doesn’t tell you whether the movie is a VIP or not! I showed up to purchase tickets at the front box office based on the times provided on the app (it said standard above the time, so I thought that was standard seating versus VIP or IMAX). That is not so, I was later informed that if you want to see if it will be VIP or not, you have to click buy tickets and actually go to the payment screen to show how much the ticket will be.
Overall the theater was pretty messy, even the lobby had popcorn all over the floor. I get that it was busy, but they should schedule extra employees during their busy times.

Too complex to get through the complex to see a movie that maybe complex. Simple is better, small towns are fun, so I refrain from seeing movies at the Irvine-​Spec-​Trum.

It’s somewhat of an outdated movie theatre with regards to comfort. The atmosphere, on the other hand, has that old cinema field with bright lights throughout the lobby and big movie posters galore :)

I was in Irvine visiting my sister, and we decided it would be fun to see a movie. We decided on Star Wars. It turned out that the only place they were showing it was in on of the VIP theaters, hence the tickets were nearly 20 bucks each. Being as we rarely went to the movies, we decided to splurge.
At first, I was excited. There was a separate concession stand for the VIP area, and they delivered right to your seat. The staff was super friendly. We ordered and found our seats.
That was when the trouble began. There was a family with 3 or 4 children, none of whom they bothered to control. The kids talked to each other nonstop, and were a major distraction. We first tried talking to the parents. When that didn’t work, we appealed to the staff. They talked to the parents twice, but never asked them to leave. I would think for the price of the tickets, quiet could be better enforced.
A manager apologized and gave us free tickets, which doesn’t help me much, since I live in Bakersfield. At this pointx I’m so irritated I doubt I will return to this particular location.

I go here a lot, sometimes several times a week and everyone is usually great. Cherokee is very helpful and knows what she is doing.
I wish she could train everyone at the window because last night I had a really hard time with a guy at the window.

Clean, HUGE, pricey, serves adult beverages (smaaaall serving, outrageous cost), mostly spotless restrooms, lots of choices, open late, well lit, friendly service. In the mall so there are tons of restaurants and good quality shopping to accompany your movie.

Well, let me tell you, that the Manager Tiffney sucks! Had no compassion at all! I went to the movies at Irvine Spectrum last week, and I wanted to tell them that the food that was served to me, I ended up getting food poisoning. I had to take off work, and lost the money and didn’t look good in my bosses eyes. An embarrassment!
Then I didn’t see any sign or was told about the movie prices. They offered me the seats that were available, not telling me that there were higher priced seats, and then I picked a seat not knowing where it was located. Come to conclusion of the matter, that I was charged almost $ 20.00 for a movie ticket with no benefits included. I suggest that no one serves this theater unless you want to get sick or overcharged.

Star Wars movie at noon! Awesome movie, great place to watch it. Comfortable chairs, spacious.

We don’t go to the movies often but when we do we go here. This theatre is super convenient and right off of the freeway where the 405 and 5 meet.
Saw the latest Star Wars at this theatre on Sunday. The line was so long outside and there weren’t very many tellers. After we walked through the front doors to our right, we noticed some kiosks on the left side where you could maybe buy tickets. I’m not completely sure if they work because I had already bought my tickets & I didn’t see anyone use it.
We saw the movie in theatre 15. The only thing that bothered me was the squeaking of the chairs every time people moved.
As we were walking out of the theatre and through the lobby, I noticed that the entire snack area and condiments stations were dirty. The floor had lots of food on it as if a hurricane blew through.

As far as movie theaters goes, this one has 21 theaters and you pretty much can find whatever movie you are currently looking for playing. There are several large houses to include IMAX here. My advice to you, unless you are 18 or under, is that if you are watching a movie in IMAX 3D, is to least pick your seat at level N or higher as the theater is very steep and seats are staggered much differently than regular movie theaters as they are closer to the screen. When you buy your tickets online or at the box office, you choose where you want to sit in the theater. Unless you really like things up close and personal in your face in 3D, you want to be higher rather than lower seat-​wise. If the movie has a lot of action scenes in 3D, i guarantee you will thank me later for this especially if you are seeing something like Jurassic World or Star Wars, The Force Awakens, etc., which has a lot of extreme 3D in it. That is, unless you like feeling dizzy a lot. :P
Getting a Regal Crown Club card, which is free, also provides many benefits. If you present this each time you see a movie here, eventually you will earn rewards like free food at concession stand and free movie tickets.
I worked in a movie through high school and into my college years. It is a not an easy place to run, as you have to staff it 365 days a year for many hours and have it well running efficiently during high holiday periods, when major blockbusters come out., etc. Considering the size of this multiplex, I think it is very well run and kept pretty clean. Staff has always been friendly here. My only complaint would be how the concession stand operates during times when it is extremely busy. I know it is hard to keep up with food orders especially special order ones and since this movie theater offers much of that, it backs things up at times and you are left waiting a while for an order of pretzel bites, a beer, etc. I do like the face that they have the Coca-​Cola Freestyle machines here, where you can makes thousands of combinations of soda and also refill your drink whenever you want.
I will take this time to make a public service announcement, also, as whether I am paying for a regular price seat, or I am paying 20 dollars to see an IMAX movie here, I don’t want to hear you talking, listen to your drunk comments, see you texting on your cell phone or recording the movie on your cell phone here when the movie is playing. Please be respectful of the people who came here to really enjoy a movie.
Yes, this giant movie complex is located in the Irvine Spectrum and yes, it is pretty much crowded all the time here, but overall, I think this is a great place to see a major movie when it comes out especially because of the greater availability of the many current movies showing, because of the larger screens and IMAX & RPX here.

we went there for star war imax. the movie started at 7:30 pm. We went in about 25 minutes late to get tickets. I think they sell their ticket by seats with different price. We paid 20.25 per ticket and got two seats right in the middle.
Is it expensive? yeah. we were expecting to get some changes back when we gave the box office 40. Is it worthy? According to my husband who is a big fan of the Star War, it is totally worthy. The movie started right after we sat and it is the best seat too.

Wow I don’t know what compelled that fella to write a sparkling review of this place on 1÷9÷2016. He is probably an employee since he does not have any other reviews!

Customer service desk is empty each time I need to go there (red flag) so I always have to wait for someone to come over.
I tried to play air hockey but the machine didn’t start after I paid… After waiting for customer service (the ticket collector tried to flag down a manager for us but he brushed him off and ignored us), they said they could not service or refund the machines.
The place is dirty as hell… Popcorn all over the floor at the entrance of the theaters (after it has been cleaned before a showing) and the floor in front of the drink machines does not get cleaned either.
Also, their prices for the reclining seats suck. AMC Fullerton has better reclining seats and is cheaper

⁰¹⁄₀₃ I Bought two tickets for a 9:15pm VIP showing. It was advertised as VIP, 21+ show, reclining seats, etc. As we got our tkts and walked to our theater, expecting an upgrade to the regular cattle call shows, the room was insanely warm, and so much for enforcing the 21+ policy. There were by far more underage kids than adults.
We walked past several employees and all failed to inform us that the air conditioner was broken, and their solution was to maintain the door open.
We complained to management, and all we got was an offer to reimburse our tickets and come back another day, or to prorate our tkt for the regular 8pm show.
It’s disappointingto observe such poor management. Patrons expect better when they’re willing to pay a premium for an enhanced experience.

Hard part is that it’s at the Spectrum so parking can be difficult to find. I came here when they were doing reserved seating options for the new Star Wars movie. But, I think they weren’t prepared for it properly because there were multiple people, including myself, that had conflicting issues with other guests. Where I bought tickets online beforehand for certain seats and then yet other guests also had purchased tickets with those same seats. It was a bit uncomfortable and people had to move around in hopes of finding other open seats.
The outside of the building is pretty, the inside is clean. The food options are different from what I’m used to. Normally I see combos for Large Popcorn + Drinks. This didn’t exist. It seemed like the combos were geared towards pairing up more of their expensive items with drinks and were more real food items. That’s good if you plan to have a lunch/​dinner while you watch, but not so great if you’re just looking for the popcorn and snacks to combo.
For some reason, I prefer AMC over Edwards but that’s maybe just due to how AMC brands itself. I think quality is about the same when thinking about what you actually get when watching a movie in either establishment.
I think this location is undergoing some revamp so let’s see how this turns out, I think they’ll have some luxury theaters so you can have reclining seats and full meals. So far, it’s a 3 for me as there were some hit/​miss things during my experience.

Patiently waited in line to buy tickets for we two; several large groups were holding spots. Some woman stood in front of the ticket window AFTER buying her group’s tickets, blocking our way to purchase tickets. She was «waiting for her sister». That group of 8 then pushed in front of us. I mentioned that it isn’t courteous to hold up the entire line and she yelled at me.
The movie «Daddy’s Home» was umwatchable (my friend’s choice). I have never walked out of a film, but we did. The children’s lines were pretty vile; Will Ferrell looked like he wanted to throw up in each scene. The movie is also racist and misogynist, and insults poor folks. Really sinks low.
We went to get vouchers and the customer service woman was pretty evil, would not refund, but did get us vouchers, only after my friend asked. The woman said «Did you watch the whole film for free»? when it is clear from the ticket times we did not. In front of us in that line, a couple in their 40s groped and licked each other like dogs. Not sure what «customer service» they were awaiting.
Maybe it’s the Irvine Spectrum crowds.
What is wrong with people? No courtesy.
A man pushed by me to get into the auditorium on our way in. The guy next to me draped over the chair and into my space, spilling greasy popcorn all over my nice jacket.
I had seen «Lone Ranger» on IMAX and that was nice (a few years ago). Mostly, I notice the angry, uptight people in the area.
So this review is for the rude people, the cynical staff, the general lack of kindness.
You see the big colorful ferris wheel at the Spectrum promising fun – but it’s more of a dark carnival of human ghastliness.

Watched Star Wars here last Saturday during the première weekend. We were lucky to catch a last minute added show @7 and have great seats with some extra room!
Staff is great here. Without them we would have been waiting on a super long line for the 730 showing, with no seats guaranteed together.
Snacks are never cheap at movie theaters and the same thing here. But if you’re like me and never get a chance to go, you indulge and get all the popcorn and candy.
PRO TIP: put M&Ms or whoppers in your popcorn.

So I went to see Star Wars and we did the VIP 21+ section. The theater was nice and clean, well lit. And no little kids to mess up the movie.
Now for the bad stuff, the seats were pretty uncomfortable, they did not recline all the way back and there was a gap between the foot rest and the seat. The food tray that comes across your lap was way to low. It kept hitting me in the knee when I moved it. You had to put the chair fully up right to use it. Guess they don’t want you choking on your food?
We ordered drinks form the bar and if you wanted a soda you had to walk all the way to the main lobby to get it.
When the movie started and they were showing the previews they had the lights up so bright you could not see them, because the servers were still serving. Safety issue sure but they could have lowered them a little.
When the movie started the screen was so dark if felt like you were wearing sunglasses. Yes it was a 3D movie so we had the dark glasses. It was just very disappointing.

Haven’t been to this Edwards in a while and was pleasantly surprised at the improvements.
We haven’t been here because we much prefer the theaters that offer the recliners and dinner, but we recently found out that they have a «VIP» section that offers just that! YAY! They still have normal theaters with regular seating but just revamped a section.
The seats are obviously more expensive, but I think they are worth it. My only complaint is that they haven’t totally worked out the kinks of the food service in the theatre. They forgot a couple of items, but were very apologetic. I think there is also a missed opportunity that they don’t come around twice to see if you want to order anything else. The food was not as good as other places that specialize in the whole luxury movie experience but it was definitely better than typical movie food!
We will definitely be coming back in the future.

****Update****
Loved the VIP area today. Will never do none VIP again after experiencing this today. AMC def has better reclining chairs, as these are too big for me. My feet do not touch the floor and it does not recline back at all.

What you would expect from a theater where the average yearly income is 100 000 or greater.
The spectrum is a beautiful outside mall, and the grandiose nature of the Edwards theater reflects that.
Two stories, tons of room and they have the 4-​D experience. They serve alcoholic beverages at the refreshment stands.
As for the theater rooms themselves pretty average, while the seats are better then other theaters and do recline a bit to accommodate those wanting to lean back a bit, they aren’t as comfortable as they could be.
The price is average with 13 dollars a person per matinée which is pretty standard. The 3-​D and the RPX (supposedly better sound and image then imax) do run you more money.
Overall if your in the spectrum check it out, good location to watch a movie with the fam.

Very clean. Very big. Very cold! They serve alcohol here now which is cool! I think they also opened a new theatre with the reclining seats… But I haven’t seen it yet.
The place is pretty clean for a movie theatre but their iMax is a bit of a walk I think haha.
They have a lot of movie show times to choose from which is also cool.
I wish their rewards program didn’t have an expiration date for when a reward needs to be redeemed because there’s long periods of time where I don’t watch movies. It’s so expensive!

Being located in the heart of the Irvine Spectrum Center, directly across from the Improv Comedy Club and Umami Burger, you couldn’t ask for a better location. Tons of good restaurants to catch a quick bite before a movie or finish off your long day of shopping.
Compared to other Edwards and AMC locations, I would say the Irvine Spectrum one is definitely on the nicer side. Good amount of employees and it is clean for a movie theatre. The high ceilings and neon lights everywhere add to the ambiance.
This location offers IMAX as well as REAL-​D 3D, which are both standard for Regal and AMC in Orange County. Both are located near the front of the theatre, so you can’t miss them. The size of the entire location is huge compared to others. Just to get to the IMAX theatre, you have to walk down 3 hallways!
Comparing the 21+ VIP section to Cinnepolis, I would definitely still go to the high end theatres for the same price. It didn’t feel much like a VIP experience, besides the seats, size of the screen, and higher ceilings. Their selection of beer and wine is good for a movie theatre, so that’s a plus.
The normal theatres have high ceilings, reclining chairs (comfortable), a good sound system, and a ton of leg room to not have to worry about hitting the person in front of you.
This theatre is a go-​to for movie premieres, so make sure to get here early. The line starts about 2 hours before show time on opening day. 2 hours to see Jurassic Park… and still got bad seats?!
Price: $ 13 — a bit expensive for a regular movie, but average for Orange County
$ 18-​$ 20 for 3D, IMAX, and RPX
Snacks — $ 4+ — Soda, Candy, Popcorn
Overall, one of my favorite theatres in Orange County. A bit on the pricey side, but understandable given the location. Don’t forget to try the ICEE’S!

I really really wanted to like this place. The problem may have been that I had high expectations going in, comparing the VIP section to Cinnepolis (especially because the tickets were priced the same)…However, the experience was average at best.

— For some reason, they don’t turn the lights down during the commercials. I didn’t even know the commercials were running — and I love commercials!
— There is a BLARING blue light to indicate where the automatic recliner buttons are that blinded me the entire movie. I kept trying to cover the light up with my leg, purse, a flyer I had in my purse. It was incredibly annoying and unnecessary.
— We were under the impression that each chair was serviced by a waiter… its not. We waited and waited and waited to order a drink that never came. So that was disappointing.
I would come back if they could make these adjustments, or else I’ll save $ 15 and get the same experience in a regular theater.
