Cigna Individual and Group Health Insurance

This is the most expensive & worthless insurance I have ever had the displeasure experiencing. This is truly an evil company with no respect for human life, never mind health.

Buyer beware :(Their customer service people will put you through the ringer and not own up to their mistakes. My guess is that they fear their management and can’t own a mistake on their part. In my case it was obviously their mistake and I had clear electronic proof of it. I spent almost 10 hours on the phone with them and got no resolution, even though various people agreed with my position, their department couldn’t own the mistake.
I went with Blue Cross instead but if I can’t trust these guys with minor things, what would happen if I actually used their medical insurance for something.

zero customer service and policy worth. Cigna changed my wife’s health plan without knowledge or approval 4 weeks before birth.
the Insurance commissioner needs to investigate Cigna and file a class action lawsuit against them. I am sure we are not the only ones.

WORST Health Insurance EVER!!!
I have worked in the healthcare arena for more than 30 years as a nurse. I have been insured by a variety of health insurance companies during that time time span. Currently, I have a Cigna PPO plan and it is the absolute worst insurance I have ever experienced. Specifically, the authorization company (eviCore), subcontracted to «medically» review any expensive imaging tests, are nothing short of obstructionists! They have repeatedly denied necessary medical testing, ordered by numerous specialists. I am appalled and would never recommend this insurance provider to anyone!

I cannot speak for the office in CA, but in terms of Cigna as a whole– They flat out lied to me about coverage when I was signing up. They said they would cover a surgery if I signed up, and then, they refused to cover it once it came around. I wrote the attorney’s office a letter, and they ignored me. But as Joel Osteen would say ‘Thaat set baack is a set uhp for somethin better.’

Can’t find the details of my coverage. Inconsistent information on the
website regarding what is covered under my employer’s plan. Specifically, the preventive care coverage document online at mycigna lists immunizations that are covered under preventive services but they are not covered under my specific plan. I would truly like to know exactly what is covered under my plan without having to call for every procedure or visit but this doesn’t seem possible after visiting the website and finding information that has «exclusions» and after my conversations with Cigna on 3÷8÷16. All documentation from my employer points me to this website or to call Cigna, which I’ve done. The people at Cigna told me that the employer should have provided this information. I’m 54 years old and have had many health plans in my lifetime, never one as bad as Cigna. Avoid them if possible.

I would give them one star but my experience with other health insurance companies have been pretty bad too. Cigna got me signed up efficiently but once it came time to provide a service they failed miserably. It ended up taking two months to accomplish something that should take less than a week. They didn’t process their paperwork correctly or in a timely manner, failed to return calls as promised, kept me on hold for ages– the typical signs of a bad company. Avoid them.

Cigna is either grossly incompetent or a criminal entity.
I’ve submitted the same claim 3x. The first time they were confused by the ICD code numbers, the 2^nd time they couldn’t read the fax, the 3^rd time I was sent a letter saying the data was missing but they failed to give me a reference number for the claim or tell me what data was missing.
They refuse to give names (first and last) with phone numbers so you can follow up with an employee. No one takes personal or corporate responsibility. They prefer Fax over E-​mail so claims can be lost or thrown out.
The medical claims department is not allowed or refuses to speak with customers even when they have missing date. Instead, the wait 30 days and send letter that take 2 weeks to arrive.
ZERO STARS. Choose another insurer if you have an option.

Absolutely unorganized and unhelpful. Just started a medical plan with CIGNA and there was a problem with another customer’s incorrect information conflicting with mine. Having spoken to several Cigna representatives my employer and I were the ones to have to discover this problem. It is now taking them several days to solve the problem and when I check back to see if I have an insurance card or PCP yet there has been no communication or update to the problem being solved. Got transferred literally 5 times before they could get me to the correct dept and the woman speaking to me was mumbling and kept interrupting me when I tried to tell her I couldn’t hear a word she was saying. Totally unprofessional service. I just wasted a half hour talking to several bored employees sitting in an office and punting me between departments so they wouldn’t have to handle my problem.

120 days, 14 phone calls, they still won’t give my money back. Terrible customer service.
Submitted a claim back in the beginning of October, so it has been 4 months. Cigna is supposed to reimburse me, after I called so many times, guess what? I am still waiting. Unbelievable!
Cigna is a horrible health insurance.

Not even 30 days into my new plan and already regret my decision to switch from Aetna. In trying to switch my current prescription over, I have been informed by Cigna that my prescription is not medically necessary and is not covered. How they came to this conclusion, is beyond me. They have no record of my treatment or diagnosis, as this is an issue that I have been treating for the past year with another carrier. Instead of following up to ensure necessity, they flat out DENIED it. My specialist has stated that this medication must be taken daily and not to miss a dose. I have now had to miss dosage, as the pharmacy states that it will take up to 10 days for possible resolution. My symptoms have returned and am already feeling miserable.
If you are thinking of switching to cigna in order to save a buck, DONT DO IT. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for, and they are a prime example of that. If you don’t believe me, continue on to other reviews. There isn’t much good to be said.

Cigna increased my individual out of pocket to $ 4,000 without notice. I had same cigna flex1250 ppo in 2014 with $ 2,500 individual out of pocket. I sent numerous written disputes to prove the validity of increasing my plan without the proper notice and never got response. Typical insurance company. Do not trust them! Deductible and Out Of Pocket steadily increasing and without notice.

I’d give them 0 stars if I could. Do not sign up for any of there plans. Google Cigna, Lawsuits and see how many lawsuits they have had filed against them for not paying claims. My personal experience is the same. They do everything not to pay claims. Run away as fast as you can from this company. Others say you get the run around, YOU DO!

Denied claims over and over again they say «isn’t medically necessary» An anomaly was found on my pelvis with a CT scan for on going stomach issues, (CT scan denied), and I had an MRI to define the anomaly. Turned out to be a tumor. They said the MRI was not medically necessary even though that and the CT scan were pre-​approved. This is a classic bait SCAM!!!

Cigna Health Insurance is an absolute joke. If I could give them lower than 1 star I would. They have been giving me the run around for over 1.5 months on a set of claims that should clearly be covered. I’ve sent the paperwork by Mail, faxed it 4 separate times, have 4 separate «Reference» Numbers, which don’t appear to accomplish anything and then, after they finally entered the data into their systems, they had delayed it so long that it didn’t have the original submittal date. I am now on the phone with them for the 5^th time and they have double and triple entered the information, so now the claims are getting automatically rejected! This isn’t insurance, this is TORTURE. I’ve paid all of my deductibles and FULL PRICE for my insurance premium and still am getting ripped off. What is the point of insurance if they don’t pay anything? I am healthy and have made very few claims other than some physical therapy and they just keep hoping I’ll go away.
WE NEED NOT-​FOR-​PROFIT HEALTH INSURANCE or we will continue to get ripped off by Insurance Providers and Drug Companies. This is a farce at best. If this is the best America can do for it’s citizens, it’s shameful.
WE SHOULD TAKE AWAY BENEFITS FROM CONGRESS AND SEE IF WE GET ANY ACTION THEN!

I would have given negative star for this. I had Cigna individual high deductible plans for several years after I left my corporate job. I just had my annual check up with the doctors I used for the past many years and then found out that I was automatically switched to the Local Plus plan as of beginning of January 2015. None of my doctors, labs, etc. are in the network with this Local Plus plan, so now I am stuck with large bills even for the basic check up (for the minimum coverage required under the Obama care.)
Cigna never notified me that the doctors I have been using are no longer in the plan as of 2015. The Local Plus network has so few doctors in it even for San Francisco, a pretty large ciy. I called the Cigna 800 number customer service to get a referral for a doctor in their network for a colonoscopy, she gave me a doctor in Oakland. Seriously??? I felt like Cigna did a bait and switch and I found out too late.
BTW, I paid over $ 17,000 a year for two of us in premium and then got stuck with several thousand dollars more in bills for basic annual checkup because Cigna came out with this restrictive network of doctors and then never informed me that the doctors I have been using are no longer in the network. I learned a lesson now that I cannot assume these insurance companies are transparent in dealing with consumers and they definitely do not have your health and continuity of coverage in mind. They are just out to make the most profit. I am for certain not going with Cigna in 2016 as I have found plans with lower premium, with less deductible and where my doctors are in the network.

Cigna is a horrible joke of an insurance company!!! Sign up with anyone but them.
They lie to you about service converage, their Local Plus that they are switching everyone too and charging them through the nose for claiming that they have great coverage, when it turns out that no reputable doctor is covered by it.
After paying nearly 10,000 dollars for the birth of my child, post PPO Cigna Local Plus Insurance, I have been told that having failed to properly sign up my newborn within 60 days. She is not insured by them and will not be until January if I do new enrollment in November. They never provided this policy info, even though they send me letters about nonsense nearly every day and have waited just enough time to reject new claims for me to be unable to get in under the 60 day period.

Awful, penny-​pinching, unfriendly, and stone-​age. I am stuck with this insurance with my current employer, and it has been terrible for my family. Very, very expensive, slow, zero customer service — not even a phone number or email contact at their «website». I’d be happy to see them go out of business immediately. It’s stuff like this that make me ashamed of the American health care system.

Oh where is the option for a negative 1 rating? The worst insurance company I’ve dealt with thus far. They find an excuse for all their shortcomings and flaws, they pick and choose what services they cover, lots of red tape, lots of phone calls to take care of ordinary issues. Next open enrollment, I’m definitely changing my health insurance plan and never returning to Cigna.
I was out if the area and had to go to urgent care, only to find out that when you’re out of area, Cigna won’t cover your visit. Next time I’ll plan my illnesses according to Cignas rules (rolling my eyes). When I need urgent medical attention, Who cares if I’m out of the area within 30 miles, why does that even matter? I pay a high rate each month so I can get medical care when I NEED it, I guess I’ll have to plan my emergencies accordingly and only when I’m in my area (rolling my eyes in utter disbelieve). Leaving this horrible company as soon as open enrollment comes around.
