Alterations By Nana

Nana is such a sweet, lovely woman! I can’t imagine ever going to another tailor again. I called on Tuesday, needing my dress altered a full size down by Friday for a wedding. She rushed it for me and did an AMAZING job. The dress fits wonderfully and looks so good. And the cost was really cheap. All around 5 stars for a really sweet woman who does amazing work.
Also, for anyone concerned about it – she has a store front in Newport now.

I recently was married on 3.5.16 and purchased a suit for my wedding. I found Nana on Unilocal looking for someone to help me look my best for the wedding. Nana was VERY helpful, warm & friendly and greeted me with a big smile that didn’t go away. She did alterations to my shirt, my jacket, and hemmed up the pants. She made my suit fit snug and tailored it to my body. She did an amazing job and honestly, I felt like a million bucks. If I need anything else altered, Nana is the one I’m going to. THANK YOU NANA!!!

First of all, I have been on Unilocal for many years and have always been a «lurker» (someone who just reads reviews but does not give any reviews, sorry!). However, Nana has just been TOO AMAZING for me not to write a review.
I had a flight at night to go to a wedding but just had realized that morning that there was a problem with the fitting of my slacks. This was completely my fault since I never tried on those new slacks until that morning (this was obviously an emergency).
I called all the tailors in my area and explained to them my situation but none could accommodate my emergency… except for Nana! After speaking with her over the phone, she assured me that she could help me by altering my slacks on the SAME DAY. Long story short, I went in around noon, got fitted, and went back to her later that evening to pick up my altered slacks… AND THE FITTING WAS PERFECT!
In addition to her skills, she is also a genuinely great person! I really wanted to tip her for what she did but she still refused to accept my tip. I will be going back to Nanas for all of my alterations and fittings and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her for anyone looking to do the same!

Never used them because it’s not a business this is someone’s home. Didn’t feel 100% comfortable doing that — surprised none of the reviews mentioned this.

I gave Nana a call because of all the great Unilocal reviews, and I’m so glad I did! I needed a suit tailored for a BIG interview and she really took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted, as well as make some suggestions about fit, sleeve length, etc. I never felt pressured or like she was trying to upsell me, but you can tell she really knows what it will take to make clothes look great on someone. Before leaving she gave me a ticket with the price and told me it would be ready when I needed it. On the day I was scheduled to pick up my clothes I arrived and she greeted me like we were old friends. I was so happy with how my suit turned out and was able to go to my interview with confidence! I believe she takes cash only, so plan ahead.

Thank you Nana! She is EXCELLENT at what she does. I came to Nana for a bridesmaid dress that didn’t fit me. The dress was two sizes smaller, got it a week before the wedding and I was frantic. Called Nana and despise her super busy schedule, because she will not only help you from her business, but from her house too.
She is caring, sensitive to your needs and exceptional at what she does.
She got the job done on time, her prices are extraordinary good, and the dress fit me perfect!

Nana is awesome. She is so friendly, takes pride in her craft, and genuinely wants to help. I had her tailored my suit and dress shirt for my wedding and boy did she make me look good. Everything tailored fit to my body. I didn’t have to say much as she knew exactly what to do which is perfect for me as I’m no expert at tailored suits. Nana is the kindest lady who runs her business out of her own home. I came to her for alterations on my brand new J. Crew Ludlow suit that I will be wearing on my wedding. I needed the pants hemmed and slimmed. Nana did an amazing job in the time she stated and the price was more than fair. In fact, she did an absolute great job for half of what you would pay anywhere else. I’ll definitely be coming to Nana for all future alterations.

Okay, this woman is freaking PARANOID!
I just called because I wanted to bring in my alterations based on all the great Unilocal reviews. This Unilocal page lists a street name but no address. Turns out it’s her home where she takes evening appointments.
First off, this woman answers the number listed but is immediately suspicious like «Why are you calling me? Why are you asking for the address?» Uh, duh, because I was on this Unilocal page with great views for a tailor and I really need to have my jeans and dress altered.
Then, she says that she has a business in Newport so I try to tell her that the Unilocal page doesn’t have this business address. After I asked for her Newport address, I started to get this weird feeling that this woman is a little nuts as good as a tailor as she might be. What business person gets annoyed with a potential customer being confused with the address of her business and asks questions?
As I’m deciding that I really don’t trust my three pairs of brand new $ 200 jeans with a wacko, she says to me, «You’re not a customer… you’re asking all these questions… don’t call me again.»
Alrighty…maybe, she doesn’t have a license working out of her home. Who knows but despite great reviews, I’m not chancing a business that’s not legit.

I rarely write reviews but by the service my family and I received it was hard not to. She is so good at what she does and she is such a nice lady. Definitely going back.

Like many others here, I’ve found that Nana is amazing. I dropped off a suit jacket at her store in preparation for a wedding. She was super accommodating, and worked with me to figure out what needed to be done to the jacket. We were in and out, and just like that she promised to have everything taken care of.
Fast forward a month, and it’s time to pick up the jacket. I was able to meet Nana at her home after business hours on a Monday – unheard of at other businesses! The suit was altered perfectly. It felt good as I put it on, and looked equally good in the mirror. Of course, like an idiot I showed up to her home thinking she would automatically have some credit card processing terminal. Nana reassured me that it was OK, and even let me take the suit with me as I hastily left to run to the ATM at the bank around the corner. «Don’t worry! Money isn’t an issue!», she told us over and over.
I quickly ran to the bank, and was back in less than 10 minutes with the cash to pay her. Nana was so sweet and even apologetic! She felt bad for making me drive out and back! Such a sweet woman, and with the technical skill to back it! I would most definitely come back to her for all of my alteration needs in the future! Awesome job with the alteration, amazing customer service experience, and just an absolute pleasure to work with.

Nana is AMAZING. She is so good at what she does and the prices are so affordable.
Came here for a bridesmaid dress and a beloved red dress that just didn’t fit anymore (ladies, you know how sad it can be when a dress that you absolutely adore just doesn’t fit as good as it could be).
Nana was so polite, efficient with time, and worked with me to get the look I wanted. She was so professional and offered me 85 dollars to take in a red dress, and alter a bridesmaid dress for length and taking in the bust.
I came back within a month to pick up my dresses and could NOT be happier. The dresses fit perfectly and I’ve fallen back in love with the red dress. Every lady should have a beautiful dress, and in red?! How can you leave that behind!

Nana is one of the sweetest people I have met. I found her through Unilocal and glad I did. She is very affordable and is really great at what she does. She transformed my dress that was way too big on me to fit my body just right. She gets really busy so don’t be surprised if she’s helping everyone at one time. Thank you Nana. Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday to see what you’ve done with my other dress.

I rarely leave reviews but had to just because of the superb service that I received from Nana.
Visit: I came to her place with 2 suit jackets, 3 button ups, and 2 pairs of jeans that needed alterations. A bit skeptical at first, however, after seeing all of the customers that she was tending helped reassured that I was at the right place. She carefully measured my fit with much precision and provided her best unbiased recommendation on what needed fixing based on my preference (slim fit). In less than 30 minutes, she had me on my way, stress-​free, and not regretting this decision. I was in no rush to wear any of my tops so we mutually agreed to get «original hems» completed on the 2 pairs of jeans by my next visit in 7 days.
Return: On the day I was supposed to pick up my two pairs of selvedge denim, Nana gave me a courtesy call to remind me of our appointment. Upon my visit, I was shocked to see that she had finished working on 6 of my 7 items even though I only asked for the jeans to be hemmed by that date. The last item wasn’t finished because she wanted to get my input/​decision before making a major alteration. Overall, everything exceeded my expectations in terms of pricing and fit.
TLDR: Had lots of clothes that needed alterations and she had finished most of them in a week. Great mom and pop shop that provided unbiased, stress-​full recommendation at bargain rate.

Sooo happy that I found Nana on Unilocal.I was nervous about taking my dress to her on such short notice especially given the work that had to be done but it turns out I had nothing to worry about; not only did Nana work wonders, but she stayed in contact with me to make sure she was altering the garment to my specifications and it was done on time!
I bought the dress (
) a size larger so it hung on me and appeared boxy. Nana was able to take in all of the seams so that the dress fit me like a glove and gave me an hourglass figure! I gave it to her on Tuesday and it was ready by Friday! She was very accomodating and warm, and her daughter and dog were both friendly as well. I really appreciate how nice she was, given that she had rushed home to make our appointment (which was only one of several from the looks of it) after already working a full day at her shop in Newport Beach. She also offered her honest input on what should be done without being off-​putting.
This is definitely the first of many visits. I’ll be sending my husband over as well to get his suits and shirts tailored. So glad I’ve finally found a reliable tailor in Irvine!

I decided to try Nana after reading all the reviews about her being good and sweet. That could not be further from the truth. She failed to have a simple pants hem done on time, left my pants in worse condition than when I gave them to her, and then lied to me about it multiple times. I am never bringing anything to her again and will never recommend her to anyone — in fact, I would recommend everyone avoid her. Oh, and she likes to charge more than anywhere else.
She promised to have a simple pants hem done on a Monday and when I called the following Tuesday — the day AFTER they were supposed to be ready — she made up some ridiculous story pretending not to remember who I was or which pants I was talking about; I dropped the pants off at her house just three days prior and she remembered very detailed parts of our conversation… yet she couldn’t remember me or my pants? Really feels like she is stalling… you can see where this is going…
She then said she would need to get home to check first. I called her back later that evening, after she arrived home, and her phone would only go straight to voicemail. I knew something was up, so I go to pick up my pants and her teenage son answers the door shirtless with my pants waiting right there — so she knew exactly which pants were mine. I went to try them on in her bathroom and immediately noticed there was not a single thread of stitching in them. All she had done is remove the threads so they were now longer than before and unfinished — completely unwearable. Her son said, «Oh, it must have come undone.» Really? Because there isn’t a single thread in either pant leg. It is the day after they were supposed to be ready, I needed them the following morning, and I had been lied to multiple times.
She called me multiple times, frantic, hours after I got my pants and made up some ridiculous story about how her phone broke — as she is calling me from her phone. She also said she would have the pants ready in five minutes if I brought them back to her. Gee, maybe you should have had them ready when you said they would be ready. To make matters worse, my pants are wrinkle free and I gave them to her as such, but got them back with massive creases all over them, indicating they had been dumped somewhere with weight on top of them (piles of clothes?) for an extended period of time: this is the level of care your garments will get.
For simple alterations, you don’t need to be lied to, overcharged, played for a fool, or have your clothing damaged — just go to any one of the other dozens of shops for alterations that are a five minute drive from her house where you’ll get your clothes on time and in good condition for cheaper.

My first Unilocal review has to go to Nana, who performed a miracle on my dress for a very generous price. Other reviews have established Nana’s flexibility and great attitude; I want to emphasize her technical skill. If you have a particularly difficult piece, definitely bring it to Nana!
The original dress (
) used to reach all the way down to my knees on my 5’0″ frame, and was very loose at the top as well. Despite the dress’s complex construction (I was refused by 2 tailors before Nana — they said it was beyond their skill), Nana was able to shorten the dress to a flattering length and tighten up the torso as well!
Nana has my loyalty for her work on such a complicated dress. I can’t wait to bring her more dresses and all my other tailoring work in the future :)

Nana is amazing and a total sweetheart! I skeptically came as it was honestly somewhat difficult for me to understand her when we spoke on the phone.
I had a bridesmaids dress that was hard for me to breathe in and I was nervous about getting it altered without affecting the look/​fit. Without even measuring me, she tailored it perfectly within a week and at a very affordable price. And she does it all with such a smile and sweet spirit.

Nana is an angel. She is likely the sweetest, kindest, most considerate person you will ever meet.
I called her at 1pm on Friday about a ballgown I had received in the mail, and i needed altered for the next night! She told me she doesn’t have time and there’s no way she can alter my dress in time. i told her I would pay double! yet she refused! she told me she cares about her work and her customers and the money won’t make a difference. That’s when I knew i had to have this magical lady fix my dress! She genuinely cared!
She told me to bring it in anyways and she will take a look…
I took the dress to her on friday around 2pm. I put it on, she pinned what needed to be changed. She totally gave me advice about what should be changed and what shouldnt. She was honest, sweet, fast yet thorough. That’s when she told me she would fix it by saturday at 4pm! I was THRILLED! She quoted me a price. and i was stunned at how reasonable it was! I went the next day to pick it up and she gave me a $ 10 discount off the price she quoted me the day before! I can’t believe I had a ballgown altered extensively in 24 hours for that price… it was unreal! Needless to say, I was the bell of the ball and everyone LOVED my dress.
Nana will be my go-​to chic for alterations! Thank you SO much Nana. You are AMAZING!

Nana is everything you want from a private altercation service. She is very courteous, understands the current trends in business fashion, and just a joy to work with. For those males who like to be business fashionable during work, my entire story is below. Hopefully it helps with making your decision whether to call Nana or not.
I gave her a call on a Sunday and set an appointment for a pants hem and shirt altercation. I have body measurements that require very custom measurements. In order to be able to breathe during work, I need at least a 15.5 to 16 neck size shirt, but the sides, bottoms, and pretty much everything else is just a mess. The shirt in question was a brand name shirt I bought at the mall at a discount. The only thing that fit was the neck, everything else was just ugggh =(
I have gone to other brick and mortar altercations before that would charge me up the woozah for all the changes needed for the shirt. With Nana, she did a quick assessment and immediately went to work. The entire process felt very friendly and one on one. My sides, sleeves, bottoms, everything pretty much needed to be done. On top of that, the style of the buttons on the sleeves made it one of the more advanced altercations needed. However, Nana’s prices were fantastic given the attention to detail and service she provided.
All the altercations to the shirt itself usually would have cost me over 50 by itself at other altercation locations. But Nana gave me a discount and with the hem altercations on the pants, the total still came to 40 total. She told me she needed a few days, but I told her my new work started in three days and she catered to my needs. I picked up within two days and the work was fantastic. I could not have asked for better. When I consider those 100% made to fit stores that charge at least 100 for a quality shirt, then I consider that I can just buy quality fabric shirts at my neck size and discounted and bring them to Nana… I will def choose Nana every time.
I plan on bringing a few more shirts over sometime within the next few weeks.
