We wanted to rave about this place! Ate lunch here a few days ago. First there is misinformation on Unilocal! They are only closed on Monday!!! Unilocal keeps saying they are closed so don’t be fooled! The restaurant is quaint and authentic! Lots of nostalgia and artifacts from 80 and 90 years ago locally. The service was adequate but not extraordinary as Mr. Peabody once said. As for the food, we sampled the house pierogis with kielbasa and the beef and pork stew. All the meat was good and above average. However, the pierogis we were served tasted like they had been frozen then boiled in water and not long enough. Colder center! The outside was too thick for our taste. And way too doughy! Potato stuffing tasted old. So we were disappointed! I grew up with Polish and Czech food so perhaps we were expecting too much! Worth a try or better yet but some meat to go and have a lovely sandwich or stew.

Amazing classic Polish food. My wife and her whole family are from Poland and I am looking forward to bringing them.

Very good, just wish the store was a little more organized and that the perogi were made fresh and not frozen. The perogi lunches are great with 6 perogis and your choice of main. On Fridays they have fish specials which also look very good. The beet soup was full of flavor and obvious nutrition, which was needed for the mostly meat and potatoes dish. I’ll definitely be back to try more when in the area.

Pretty long lunch wait, but I expected it. Quaint little place, and excellent, excellent, excellent food! Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the wait. We got there shortly after noon, and didn’t get our lunches until almost 1.

Had lunch at Polska Chata(pronounced ‘Pole-skuh HA-tuh’) and really enjoyed it. I met a group of friends and we all had different dishes. I ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls(sorry I can’t remember the Polish name for this dish). It was served with a side of chunky onion-y mashed potatoes, plus two large cabbage rolls stuffed with meat and rice, and a creamy tomato sauce over the top. Everything was stick-to-your-ribs tasty. This is exactly what I imagine Polish ‘home cooking’ to be like. Friends at the table had their sausage plates and combo plates — the amount of food you receive — for LUNCH — was pretty large. I felt it was a great value too. We ate upstairs in the cute dining room which is decorated as if Polka dancing takes place up the regularly… and though we were the largest table(4 of us) there were several other diners enjoying their lunches too, so it had a good vibe. I would definitely go back — we never did get to try the Polish cheesecake!

I had been meaning to try this place for a while and finally got around to it tonight. My husband and I ordered potato pancakes, pierogies and(non smoked) kielbasa. I grew up eating this kind of food regularly so I am kind of picky and I will say it was very good. Service was slow at first but there was only one girl working the entire place. We will definitely be back, and we also bought food from the deli to take home and prepare.

People who talk about ska a lot have been asked to take this survey. In that sense, we’ve decided to «Poll Ska Chatters.» Such as No Doubt fans, back in the old days before they sold out. I knew Gwen Stefani back then by the way. Hottie. Had a major crush when I was 13. Major. Memories, they can be inviting, but some are altogether mighty frightning. So I stopped in here and shared some of a Polish platter with a friend. I was going to write, with a fiend, because she really is. She didn’t like it as much as Sokolowski’s(Cleveland), Hubert’s(Columbus), Pierogies Plus(Pitt) or Polish Villa & Peter K’s(Buffalo), but she, like me, thought it was excellent homestyle Polish food. It loses a star for being not the best I ever had and for being a little overpriced, similar to this little back street place in Niagara Falls, named Polish Nook. In fact, this little back street place here in Rochester(Irondeqoit to be exact) reminds me so much of Polish Nook that if I didn’t know better, I’d swear they had the same owners. Or maybe I should just swear. F***. F***. C***su**ing f***ers. There, that’s better.

Polska Chata is absolutely spectacular! Authentic food, great service, and a fun environment make this a restaurant that we are sure to come back to. We ordered an array of food, and everything we tried was just SO good. I would be 100% fine ordering anything off of the menu, but definitely recommend Hunter’s Stew. While not technically kid-friendly(not really kid seating or a kids menu), they DO have a high chair, and our two-year old loved trying this new food. The potato pancake was a great start, and he enjoyed trying kielbasa and pierogis! This is a true Rochester gem and we will definitely be back.

A nice little find. The restaurant is upstairs while the main floor is a deli and grocery store. They have homemade pierogi that you can buy and prepare at home. We ordered lunch and it came rather quickly. The meal was rather tasty; however, the mashed potatoes were bland. The rest of the meal was very good from the pork chop, the pierogi, to the hunter stew. The décor was a bit unusual and the room was cold. Glad we went and may stop by again.

Really enjoyed my first long-overdue visit to Polska Chata. On a day where I was craving pork & beer and Swan Market was closed, this place more than fit the bill. There are many similarities in a way between Swan and Polska — both are in oldish neighborhoods in converted homes, family-run and full of home-cooking. Downside to Polska is that there is no draught beer, so you’ll have to take your Polish nectar from the bottle. The bottles are 20 oz and $ 6 a pop. The majority of the seating is upstairs over the grocery store/deli and this is a room frozen in time, my friends. Maps of old Poland, photographs chronicling generations of immigrants, vintage lamps and old accordions adorn this cozy but chilly dining room. I want to go back when they’re playing some polka music. The menu is wonderful but could probably be pared down in price and portion for lunch. Most of the entrees hang out at the $ 12-$ 15 price range, although you will most likely be able to take some home for another meal as well. They have an AMAZING seleciton of different fish fry plates that are only served on Fridays. I’m definitely going back for one of these during Lent! This time I tried pierogis wrapped in Hunters bacon as an appetizer, the Polish Sampler, while others at my table tried pierogies with gulash, stuffed cabbage and the sausage sampler. Everything was deliciously homemade. The pierogies were not chewy or overcooked: perfect texture, slightly salty, stuffed with homemade potato and onion. The bacon was outstanding… not sure if they buy this somewhere nearby or smoke it themselves? The gulash was savory with a hint of tomato, but the flavor wasn’t overdone. The meat(beef and pork) was very tender. I really enjoyed the tender stuffed cabbage and the smoked pork sausage as well. The owner was very, very warm and welcoming and made sure that we felt at home. Overall, a little expensive for lunch, but an authentic and very pleasant experience at that. Highly recommend. Come with an appetite and leave with some time in your schedule for a post-prandial nap.

I stumbled upon this little gem because I made a wrong turn. I’m so happy that I did! What a cute place that is very European feeling and authentic. The girl was very helpful and sweet. I got the stuffed cabbage for take out and it was delicious! I also bought the cheese and potato pierogies and made them last night. Also very delicious. I will definitely be back :)

This place transports you to Poland — at least in my mind(I’ve never been there). There is a small area downstairs to eat but the action is upstairs — music, art work, more room. Our waitress was great — very pleasant and made you feel welcome as if you were in someone’s home. I ordered the fresh sausage with pierogis and a side order of a potato pancake. I really liked the sausage, I thought the pierogis were awesome and the pancake was about average. If I were to come back, I would like to try the sausage plate — I think that is the best bet along with some pierogis. They also have a beer selection, of which I did not partake, but if I go back it would be nice to check out their polish brews. If you are looking for a simple yet satisfying experience, I think this is good option.

If you are craving delicious Polish food this is the restaurant for you. Everything is made by the owners in house and with great care. Clean and comfortable dining area. Not fancy but who cares when the food is that good? Yum!

If you are looking for first rate, authentic Polish food in Rochester, Polska Chata is not just the best restaurant, it is the only one worth considering! It is run by two Polish immigrants, who are passionate about their home country’s traditions and most of all food! The restaurant is small and is appended to a deli/grocery store, which also offers traditional Polish food. The dishes run from very traditional Polish pierogi sand golombkis, to a delicious fish fry on Friday nights. Don’t be surprise if on Saturday there isn’t some live entertainment there playing a mix of Polish and American music. This place has much to offer including delicious food, excellent Polish beer and a wonderful festive atmosphere. It all comes together because the owners Margaret and Joe know what they are doing and are very passionate about it. Don’t miss this one… na zdrowie!

My fiancée stopped here after work one night after I was browsing the internet and discovered somewhere other than Buffalo to get homemade pierogis. We bought 2 different kinds: potato and onion, potato and cheese, and farmers cheese with sugar. Myyyy oh my, SO good! I have to say the farmers cheese was my favorite because it was sweet, but not too sweet where its like a dessert. I was very impressed and definitely plan on going there for a sit down dinner. I love smoked sausage(my Polish uncle cooks this on Christmas Day for the family, and I have never been able to master it) so I am excited to try some here! Very happy!

Awesome food! I mad at myself for waiting to try this place. I went here for lunch on an impulse with two coworkers and I received big kudos for finding a new«regular» on our lunch circuit. The polish platter was a lot of food but it was a great way to try a little of everything.

Wow! I am so impressed! My boyfriend is Polish, and grew up with a family that cooked in a Polish restaurant. He wanted to check Polska Chata out, so we went for dinner on a Friday night. The first floor is an adorably authentic Polish grocery store. You can see the cook(grandma?) in the kitchen behind the counter. Upstairs is a little dining room, but it’s super cozy and decorated with all kinds of cool Polish«stuff,» including a cute doll in the corner that was slightly creepy in a cute way! There was a keyboard player playing polka music. I loved everything about the wooden floors and walls, the friendly service, the friendly atmosphere, and… the FOOD! It was delicious. You could tell it was made from decades old recipes. My Polish boyfriend gave it two thumbs up, so I know it’s authentic. On our way out we had to grab a bunch of home-made meats,(including sausage, snack sticks and bacon that they cut for you!), shot glasses, home-made pierogies, etc. I’m not a fish eater, but I saw some fish-fry being served and I cannot WAIT to come back and order it. It looked and smelled AMAZING! Get your butt down there asap!

So after finally figuring out where this place was, I checked the website to find the hours. Just so happens they are open late on Fridays and I was in need of take out food for dinner. Perfect. Now, for those of you who don’t know. I’m part Polish — and I’ve studied Polish in the past, and I’m currently working on it again with Rosetta Stone. I had it all planned in my head that I was going to go in and greet them in Polish and try out my language skills. Alas, that didn’t happen. I was too nervous and stuck to English. In fact, I got so nervous that all I could do was order my gołąbki(cabbage rolls) and naleśniki(cheese blintzes). I hardly even looked around. I’m such a wuss sometimes. BUT, this all just means I’ll have to go back again! The gołąbki were good — the filling especially. The cabbage itself was a little rubbery — not as fresh as grandmas, but the taste was good. The sauce was tasty too! My naleśniki were good — the cheese was a little sweet. I don’t remember them much from my childhood, but I enjoyed this! I would really like to take my dad here one day and try it for lunch. I wonder how sit down meals compare with the meals from Polish Villa in Cheektowaga(where my pops is from)!

The only way that i’m connected to Polska Chata is that I’m Polish! I grew up in traditional Polish-American family in Buffalo and have had more traditional Polish meals than most. Just giving you my credentials… this is the best Polish food in Western New York. I pray that they stay open forever so that I can pass these traditions down. Their Polish Platter offering gives you a bit of everything and is always done very well. I know that this is all subjective, but it’s better than anything I’ve had form the Polish Villa or the Broadway Market in Buffalo. Although I appreciate what both of those aforementioned businesses stand for, my heart is now with the Chata! I strongly recommend giving their sausage a try at Christmas and Easter… if you have not already. The Polish groceries and deli is an added bonus and their service is incredible, especially the young blonde woman that typically works the register!
