Zephyr Printing & Design

I have a $ 10 gift card to Zephyr through BlendCard, but every time I try to use it the clerks have no idea how to use it and say that «management is working on it.» It’s been three weeks I’ve been trying to use it to absolutely no avail. Also the first time o tried to use it, the guy at the register had me go back to the end of the line and wait half an hour while he worked with other customers.

I called before I came into have something printed to ask what all I needed to bring in and the format that it needed to be in to print. They told me they don’t have InDesign and that I would have to export them to pdf or they would charge me, which was fine. Once I got there they informed me that they could not use my external hard drive to print from, which I would have expected that they would have told me over the phone when I called to ask what I needed. Their computers were very old and wouldn’t even read the hard drive. They then also told me that their computers struggle with Mac files, which is also something they should have told me over the phone. The people working were also not helpful and unfriendly. Being a printing and design shop I was shocked that they didn’t have computers that didn’t function well and didn’t have InDesign or other Adobe software, and that can’t read Mac files… You would think they would at least have one Mac desktop to use… I was very disappointed with their service.

I needed to fax something from Iowa City, but had no clue where I should go. After a quick Google search, I found the The Hub at the IMU sends faxes for what they call on their website a «minimal charge». I went to the IMU only to find out they charge STUDENTS $ 2/​page to fax something. $ 16 to fax something? I immediately walked away.
Zephyr charged me $ 1/​page and was very nice. If I ever need to fax something again, I know where I’ll be headed.

This review is actually for Zephyr Wedding.
I was advised to use them since they are local and I figured it was easiest to communicate in person rather than over email so I set up an appointment to go in for a consultation.
I met with a young lady there who took my print out design I found on Etsy and recreated it using our wedding colors. She did a fantastic job on this! It was perfect… AND that is where my positive experience with Zephrys ended.
I immediately started working on our guest list. I uploaded it into a spreadsheet and had my fiancé send it over. It was a combination of my list and his parents list. Not once did the staff at Zephrys look over our list, instead they just sent it straight to the print shop. I know it is my job to look over the list but there are little details I overlooked, and I am disappointed that they did not double check the information as well. There were small errors such as a few missing zip codes and inconsistent titles on our list were never verified with us. When this is your profession, your business, I would advise that you have the staff double check all of the information with the guest before sending it off to print. I can only believe that the bride and groom would be more than thankful for catching small errors they may have overlooked.
Another suprise when picking up the invites was the fact they were not assembled. I do not mind putting invites together, however I think it’s best to tell your customers up front what to expect and what they are paying for! I had no idea this was the case and then wasn’t even advised on the materials I should use to assemble them (glue, tape, glue dots, etc).
We have had to return multiple invites because the envelopes had the addressses printed upside down, we have had to return some inserts because they were cut the wrong size and today when I picked up my additonal order of 10 (after they have printed 110 of these already) I opened it to find the pocket on our invite in the wrong direction.
I am frustrated and very confused why it is so hard to maintain consistency with a set of invitations. Obviously no one double checks their work on anything at this business and the only reason I have remained a customer is because I want to use the design on our menu cards.
Also, their staff is not welcoming. When I spend a significant amount of money for a service or good, I expect to see a smile, say hi and at least ACT like you are happy to see me.
I would highly recommend looking elsewhere in town for printing services, at least until they can put some better business practices in place.
