The spoke is the best place in town to go for bike advice, gear and repairs. I trust Michael and his team to point me toward the best quality for the best price.
I recently had a salvaged bike frame reworked into a beautiful road bike here. Best experience I could’ve asked for. The bike is lovely, smooth and fast. The price was fair and I never once felt rushed. Keep up the great work Michael!

The Broken Spoke is as good as it gets for bike shops in Iowa City. Michael is extremely knowledgeable, easygoing, and is happy to work with you to find the right bike for you and your budget. He also has a great selection of accessories, and is happy to work with you to special order items that he doesn’t have in stock. Don’t forget to go to him for all of your bike assembly and tune-​up needs, as well! The shop is small, but where else can you play the full arcade version of Joust while shopping for your next two-​wheeled transportation?
Also, who can resist a bike shop with resident cats? Don’t mess with the one named Wiener.

Michael was extremely helpful and low-​pressure. He seems to only sell bikes that he truly believes in, even to the point of not carrying specific models in the brands he stocks if they don’t meet his standards. This can be great since you know everything in that store is a worthy bike; however, it can also be annoying since you can’t test ride something that might be a good fit for you. I think the average Joe wanting to get a summer bike might be intimidated by this store since it seems to cater to the big time bikers but I would recommend stepping inside and chatting with Michael about what you think you need in a bike… he’ll definitely find you an affordable bike and one that will be just right for your biking style. He sells top-​notch brands too (Kona, Jamis).
