Specialties
The first thing you should know is we’re not your ordinary moving company. Yes, we have big, fancy trucks. Yes, we do local and long distance moves and offer packing and climate-controlled storage. But our true mission is to be one of the most honest and ethical customer service businesses you’ve ever hired.
We promise to treat you and your things with honesty, kindness, and respect. We strive to minimize the harm our work causes by recycling as much as possible and using biodiesel produced from waste veggie oil. We commit to sharing the profits from our work with our amazing employees, many of whom are paying their way through college and graduate school, and our wider community here in eastern Iowa.
And we try to have as much fun as possible doing it all. We’d be honored to work with you on your upcoming move, whether it be down the block or across the country.
History
Established in 2001.
Owners William (Billy) Hoke and Eric Jones got their start in the moving business as university students by helping locals load and unload their Uhauls. After three increasingly successful summers, the two decided it was time to take their business to the next level, and they invested in trucks and equipment, hired more staff, and added a successful long distance division to the company. Along the way, Adamantine Spine Moving has become the largest and most respected independent moving company in Iowa City. They’ve been moving families in eastern Iowa for over a decade and are proud not only of their reputation for excellence, but also of their long record off doing good in the community where they live and work.
Meet the Business Owner
Eric J.
Business Owner
I was raised in New England and moved to Iowa City in 1999 to attend the Nonfiction Writing Program and have lived here ever since. I never expected to become a mover, but once I started doing the work as a student for extra income, I fell in love with the physical challenge, the adventure, the travel, but most of all the opportunity to help people from all walks of life during a particularly interesting transition. More recently, I’ve enjoyed the challenge of trying to make our moving company as green as possible, by helping to make our own biodiesel, by recycling, and by encouraging our customers to donate unwanted items to charity.
