Winchell’s

Ah, such memories at this WInchell’s. Excellent glazed donuts; take note Dunkin’ Donuts. And great chocolates and buttermilk too.
Also the first time I ever had a gun pulled in my face occurred here. That was Inglewood’s finest. It seems the young lady behind the counter brought her little sister along to help out; we’re talking maybe 8 or 9 years old. And just as I was ready to make payment for my dozen, wallet in hand, I hear the calm but firm question of «are you being robbed?» Those girls behind the counter went bug eyed, as the older one responded meekly «no». Now something told me to not make any sudden moves, after all I did have something in my hand, my wallet. So I calmly turned my head over my shoulder, only to see a huge rifle pointed directly at me, with two police officers standing in the doorway. The lead officer then replied back to the older girl, «your emergency alarm went off». Which caused the older girl to ask her sister, «did you push that red button?» Her reply, almost in tears? «Yes». The older sister then snapped at her with the words «That’s only for emergencies, do you know that you could have gotten this man killed?!» That’s when it all began to sink in for me. I could have been one of those «accidents» so prominent in the hood and probably best explained in one of Richard Pryor’s monologues.
But that was some years ago, and I still love this Winchell’s to this day. Oh, and the dozen donuts I purchased that night? Mom and I enjoyed them immensely, God rest her soul.
And hey, if you frequent this particular Winchell’s, you can rest assured that the emergency alarm works if something actually does go down there. And maybe, if you get confused with being a robber here, you’ll also be fortunate enough to have a couple of non-​trigger happy, level headed officers show up; not quick to jump to conclusions.

If your elderly and you like hanging out, this is the place for you. Since a lot of elderly hand out here.
Don’t go here for fresh donuts. Go to Vons. They are 50 cent each and are fresh every morning. These donuts are 24 hours old if you get them in morning. They dont throw any away.
Secondly, that fat bitch in pics ignored everyone and allowed one of her fat regulars who works at Inglewood Cemetery lawn service, to cut in line of everyone.
Ill give it two stars for the their female employee quickly apologizing for that other stupid bitch. Other than that, i don’t like this place.

I must admit, this is probably my favorite Winchell’s in the Greater Los Angeles area… Probably because I lived in the area and got to know the staff pretty well. The people here are friendly and the employees react quickly to help reduce long lines during rush hour. As a previous reviewer (Leslie) said, there are always older gentlemen here in the mornings willing to talk to you about anything. I’m not much of a talker, unless the subject is really appealing to me. Every day chit-​chat is not really my thing… I’m usually an in-​and-​out kind of guy, to be honest. With that said, I’ve never been bothered by the occasional early morning conversationalist that may happen to be there when I do visit. Parking is great; almost never a problem. My only complaints are, 1.) It’s not open 24hrs like some other Winchell’s and 2.) Some of the surrounding neighborhoods can get a bit rough at times.
Now that I think about it… maybe #2 is the cause of #1? Who knows.

My uncle Andrew used to go here several times a day for coffee. When I lived in his house, during college, I’d go around throwing away the empty Winchell’s cups that littered the kitchen.
I’ve been here a few times with him. There are always a group of older gentlemen here who are willing to speak to anyone about any topic. If you’re a gregarious kind of person, you’ll love it here. If you’d rather get in and out without conversation, beware!
The doughnuts here are no better nor worse than any other doughnut shop, so no need to go out of your way, unless you’re in the area.
They do have their own dedicated parking lot, which some places can’t boast.
