Smog Kings

I have gotten a number of smogs for my cars in the past but this place is by far and beyond the most amazing experience. Alexis has got to be the happiest, most jovial guy out there and is so friendly.
I took my Audi there late last year and I was in and out of there in 5 minutes. This year I took my Touareg and again 5 minutes in and out.
I don’t even live in the area but I make the drive out there for this place and continue to recommend it to anyone I know.

Active and Efficient.!! very helpful! i honestly recmmend this place without a doubt, came around 8:45am early as anyone can be, it only took about 10 mins tops and bam i was on my way! ALEXIS is the man of the Shop! What a Gentlemen. They dont give that type of customer servce anymore.

Update ¹⁄₂₂: Update: Smog Kings owner contacted me immediately about my issue, explained the extenuating circumstances re why the shop didn’t open on time yesterday, and invited me to come back. Got here 8:35 today, the technician Alexis greeted me and apologized too, and immediately got to work on my smog test. 10 minutes later and I have certificate in hand! Excellent service by Alexis, and excellent customer service by the owner. Thanks much! I’m bringing my second car here next week!
Review part 1: I found this place through Groupon. Both Groupon and the Smog Kings website state that the hours of operation are 8:30am-5:30pm M-​F and that no appointment is necessary. I arrived at 8:30am on the dot. It is now 9:20am and the doors have yet to open. I checked with the business next door to see if they knew anything about why the shop was not open, and was told that the guy never comes to the shop that early, usually opens around 9:30/10am. That’s just not good business! There is no answer on the business line either, and they do not seem to have voicemail. Not pleased, but I really need a smog check and I already paid for it. #notahappycamper
Update: 10:20am and Smog Kings still has not opened their doors. Very bad business! I’m leaving and will request a refund from Groupon. Taking off from work to get a quick smog check? Showing up early to get this errand out of the way? Guess I chose wrong trying to patronize Smog Kings #thanksforwastingmytime

This place is THE BOMB and Alexis is the guy that makes it happen. I’ve been getting smog checks for over 20 years on multiple cars and I’m so glad I found this place (I just happened to be driving by as it’s near where I live). It’s hard to spot if you’re not specifically looking for it.
So the first sign that this place is the coolest was that before the test began, Alexis noticed that my Check Engine Light was on. He says he can’t pass it no matter what if that light is on. Oh jeez. That’s our worst nightmare when getting a smog check, right? Not with Alexis. He says– «It’s cool, I’ll read the code for you and let you know where the problem is, NO CHARGE. Go get it fixed and then we’ll do the smog check». OMG, this guy’s too cool! I was flabbergasted because 1.) These days it’s so rare for anyone to offer anything for free, and 2.) Places like Pep Boys and AutoZone say that they’ll read our codes for free, but 9 times out of 10 they’ll make up some excuse as to weasel out of it.
So Alexis reads my codes, tells me that it’s a P0136, the «Downstream Oxygen Sensor». Awesome! Such a sense of relief, because I know how repair joints like to rip us off. So long story short, I get a few estimates from repair places and they’re all over $ 300. I decide to do the repair myself. I get the O2 sensor (new) on Ebay for $ 16 (they’re near $ 100 at the local stores), and I go to town on it. But I’m new at doing smog repairs so I run into a few glitches along the way. Each time I do, I mosey back Smog Kings, and Alexis HAPPILY reads and interprets the codes for me, FREE OF CHARGE, letting me know my progress in getting this beast fixed. I was sure he’d get pissed at me after the first freebie, but no! (I did this 4 or 5 times) ;)
So this place is REALLY looking out for the customer’s best interest, and they’re not gonna play any games such as failing a test so they can recharge you for future visits (as some smog places do).
This is the ONLY smog place you ever need to go to, and you’ll be very happy you did. They are such experts that the tests are quick and there’s rarely more than a few minutes wait.
And about the guy that complained here about the «extra charge» for the certificate– He’s full of BS. ALL Smog shops HAVE ALWAYS AND STILL DO quote prices for the smog check, and it’s ALWAYS the price «plus certificate fee».

Don’t get the groupon because he will make you pay an extra $ 10 for the certificate, which is b.s. Because they report it to the DMV anyway. The guy was nice and quick enough but I’m not a big fan of the extra charge. I asked him if it was mandatory and he said yes. I don’t know why good people do bad business. I think the Unilocal offer is a little better if you wand kind of a deal here. Otherwise, don’t make the trip.

It was time to smog check my car. This year the DMV wanted me to go to a STAR test station and I found Smog Kings online. I had budgeted the whole morning to get it done but when was surprised that they had me in and out within 10 minutes including the paperwork! I couldn’t believe it. The technician who did the smog was incredibly kind and helpful — super personality :). Plus they gave me a great deal. Very happy with their friendly service.

Found this place near my work and saw the Unilocal check in discount so I decided to try it out. Rolled up, was greeted quickly and was in and out in about 10 mins. $ 45 with coupon was a good deal especially considering I’m in and out quick. Time is $$$.
This includes smog check, cert and etransmission to DMV!

I’m leaving another review because their service was absolutely superb! Took like 15min and the guy was really good! Very happy while answering my questions with enough details to help a customer understand. 5 star rating to this place! Oh and I only paid $ 35 because I got a discount from the website! Great customer service. Just know that the Unilocal and groupon deals don’t count on sedans lower then 96(year). But still offered me 50 $ deal that was still lower then all the places I called beforehand. It took just about 10 – 15 minutes for my 94 Saturn SL2, which is below the year 96 that they say more testing needs to be done on. Still was fast and friendly. They give you a copy of your results for personal records and send the results to dmv. Very efficient service.

Smog Kings took only 10 minutes for my ’07 Lexus’s smog check. Each staff member is friendly and helpful. It was a little cramped in the parking lot because of the car wash customers but everyone (both customers and staff alike) is looking out for each other with waving people out who are backing up. You won’t actually find any signs that say «Smog Kings» but it’s all good. Hit up Groupon for their $ 25 sedan smog check deal.

So I decided on Smog Kings in Inglewood to renew my smog certificate. I got there at 9am and there was no one else waiting. It’s built right into a car wash. The guy helping me was friendly and very helpful with questions I had. I also got a discount coupon on there website which got me out the door for $ 40.

In & out in about 45 minutes… there was one car ahead of me and the guy was working by himself; service would be faster with another tech in the 2^nd lane…
Paid $ 42 for my SUV ($ 32 groupon voucher + $ 10 smog certificate)…

Bought their Groupon and came in to get a smog check on my Scion XA. They told me it would take about 20 minutes so I left the car with them and went to grab lunch across the street. When I came back 20 — 30 minutes later they only got started on it then and only because I asked them when it would be ready to take. Once they got going with the smog check it was very quick.
Also, the guy working inside the little shop was super friendly… honestly, I think he was hitting on me, but whatevs! He gave me a free car wash. Thanks!
