Mutt Maniacs

Interacted with Maniacs when they would drop off a neighbors dog. For the first time, last week I had daily day care 3 days in a row and my dog was happy and calm every day and I absolutely saw some change in behavior (a few habits he picked up from other dogs, perhaps too, such as being super bossy now!) even after I’d been taking him to Obedience and Agility Classes at the Zoom Room for over a year. I’m thrilled to have an option for day care now, and look forward to boarding when the time comes.

My dog loves Mutt Maniacs and so do my wife and I. Pick up and dropoff are really great for us. Our dog gets very excited to go here in the morning. We love when they take pictures of the dogs and post them online. Only thing I would love to see is to have webcams so I could watch my dog during lunch breaks.

I highly recommend Mutt Maniacs. We did their training class when we first got our rescue dog (a boxer-​pit mix) and learned a lot. Melissa and her husband Marcus are total dog whisperers and are very helpful and skilled at working through any issues with your pup. Also just generally lovely people! We also board our dog with them and she loves it there. Weekend training classes at extremely reasonable rates.

Mutt maniacs saved my bacon. My dog sitter bailed the afternoon before I had to leave town for a wedding, leaving me scrambling to find a place that would accept a dog not licensed in Los Angeles. They only required prof of rabies vaccination and a temperment test and we were good to go, in under an hour! My dog looked great and happy when I picked her up 4 days later. Overall fantastic experience, for reasonable rates!

Every time my husband & I go out of town we take are little one Goldie to mutt maniacs because we know our daughter will be looked over very well. They are truly fantastic. We have seen several changes when it comes to training that she has picked up that we are excited about that she wasn’t doing before we start taking her for overnight boarding and daycare at Mutt Maniacs.
Our Goldie gets very excited when she see’s Marcus which I look at as a very good sign that they are treating her right. Otherwise our little one will not run to you with excitement.
So we will continue to use their services!

Mutt Maniacs is truly fantastic! They take care of my dog, Winston, as if he is their own. I recently moved and Winston had a hard time adjusting to the new apartment, Mutt Maniacs not only offered advice on how to get him to acclimate, but even offered to let me to borrow a crate and Kong to help the process.
It is also a great value. As a monthly member I pay less than $ 20/​day and $ 20 for overnight visits. This is less than I was paying to have Winston walked for 30 mins each day, and Winston is so much happier.

My 3 year old dog, Chezzy, and I have had nothing but amazing things to say about Mutt Maniacs since he started going to daycare as a young pup (and he talks a lot). Melissa, Marcus and the staff have not only taken great care of him but have been a huge resource for me. They genuinely spend time with him and have gotten to know his personality. With that, they are happy to share tips and tricks whenever I have questions. We went through their dog training courses as well. Even though Chez was quite the class clown, he can now sit and stay with the best of them. Additionally, they offer cage-​free boarding. It’s such a relief to know that when I’m out of town he is with people and dogs that he knows and loves.
Living in the Beverly Grove area hasn’t been an issue since Mutt Maniacs moved to their new location. Chezzy is on taxi service for pick up in the morning and drop off in the evening, which is part of the normal fee. It has been incredibly convenient and allows for a lot of flexibility in my work schedule.
I’d be remiss not to mention that Chez not only loves the people at Mutt Maniacs but is also over the moon for one special staff member (who I’ll leave nameless in this review as to not make her fiancé too jealous).

OMG! They are amazing, it is so nice that they can pick up my dog and take him home when my life becomes to hectic! I feel so safe when they have him, that it once less thing for me t worry about since I know my dog is safe and well taken care of…

I thought I’d updated this, but just realized I hadn’t yet! We’ve had many more than just 1.5 visits at this point (2 years later), including several long term, overnight stays. Still can’t recommend them enough. They work with us when we have tight work/​flight schedules and need to drop off. Also, they are extremely organized (example: we always pack a few extra servings of food, and these are always returned to us with our pup at the end of the stay). I’m not quite sure where some of the particular critiques have come from, but our little guy plays and runs around the entire time (we even get reports and photos of his playmate-​of-​the-​hour) and he gets so excited each time he sees Marcus and Melissa.
For what it’s worth, we have not purchased package deals from Mutt Maniacs, and have never been treated poorly by Marcus and Melissa EVER. We only have need for overnight stays every few months (and no longer need daycare), and every single time they are so friendly, helpful, and wonderful. It’s not like we’re huge spenders, so I get the impression that they are just great people all around to all of their customers.
They are the only ones we go to for doggie boarding. And what a relief it is to know he is in such good care.

Our 50-​lb husky, Mochi, went to doggy daycare at Mutt Maniacs every weekday for months and she loved it. The people here were very friendly and loving toward the dogs. The space is small with no outdoor play area, but Mochi seemed to have a lot of fun there every day and was usually tired by the time we’d pick her up. If my job hadn’t moved to the opposite side of town, we would have gladly continued bringing Mochi there for these reasons:
1) I believe they help improve your dog’s behavior (Mochi’s jumping problem significantly improved under Mutt Maniacs’ care)
2) They allow big dogs and small dogs to play together, which I think is a smart, healthy philosophy
3) They are the most affordable doggy day care in the area (the $ 480 unlimited monthly packages come with a free bath, too)
4) If you travel for work, your unlimited monthly package gives you a 50% discount on boarding, which ends up only being $ 20/​night
The only issue we had with Mutt Maniacs was their hours. Many working professionals who need to place their dogs in daily day care work long hours. Having to rush out of work to pick up Mochi by 7pm was tough at times. Also, even though they advertise that they’re open 10am-​12pm on Saturdays, I got the impression they really do not want you bringing your dogs on the weekend. That was fine, we adjusted.
All told, if you don’t work late nights and want an affordable doggy day care where the people take good care of your dogs, I’d recommend checking out Mutt Maniacs.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mutt Maniacs! Melissa and Marcus are absolutely great. You can tell how much they, and the rest of the staff there, absolutely love the dogs. They know each of them so well-​their quirks and all. I love to listen to them talk about the different personalities of each dog. And my little Jackson loves them too! He’s clearly very well taken care of.
I just want to say that the reviews on here criticizing Marcus and Melissa cannot be written by anyone who has ever actually left their dog with these wonderful people. If you’re looking for a place where you can leave your dog and not have to worry all day that he’s being loved and taken care of, Mutt Maniacs is the place to go. Plus, your pup will come home wiped out from playing all day with his puppy friends!

Melissa and Marcus are really wonderful. They email me to let us know how things went with our pup. Plus, they are open and warm dog lovers that give more than enough. They have given us very helpful advice. We are so lucky to have them.

We took our beloved dog here for several months, got private training and doggy daycare service. I had always been put off by Melissa and how she gossiped about other clients and also how judgy she is towards any other technique but hers. It is weird because she was really rude to us about letting our dog on the couch or bed but then she posts photos of her own dog on their bed. She also talked down to us like we were second class citizens constantly. Melissa doesn’t understand that when people are paying her and Marcus for a service they are employing her and should be treated more respectfully.
We also couldn’t stand how Marcus manhandled our dog and some of the other ones. He hurt them and it bothered us enough to say something to him. Of course we were treated terribly after that. I would never tell people to go here. They are awful with dogs and their facility is too small to handle the amount of dogs they take on per day. Also, the smell is something I couldn’t get off our dog no matter how much we wet-​wiped him down after a day there.
The dogs are always barking and in such a tiny facility that you can tell Melissa and Marcus are stressed out wrecks by the end of the day. They will not give you fair treatment unless you buy those monthly packages. We spent hundreds but were still treated like we meant nothing to them. We had pre bought daycare and ended up not using it since they were so horrible to us and to our dog. I was actually recommended to them by a friend of mine who did later warn me that she was falsely accused by Melissa of leaving a bad review about them. I am sorry to say I should have listened to her but I decided to just try them since the Unilocal reviews were good. I wish I had listened to her! I am sure I will now be the victim of harassing phone calls because of this review, but I could not just let it all pass.
While it is fine to be opinionated, when you run a business you should be mindful of your clients. Melissa and Markus, in my opinion, should not be running a care facility.

I can’t recommend this place or the two owners unfortunately.
I was recommended to them by someone who said they specialized in rescues. I met with them, leaving my dog for a few hours for observation. I found their La Cienega location rather disheveled, dark and extremely stinky. Upon my return they said they could help and would call me to set up classes — they never did.
In fact I’m pretty sure they didn’t because we got into a conversation about Service Dog ability, to which Melissa immediately jumped down my throat in judgement because I had flown my dog a few times as a service dog. Despite trying to get a word in edge-​wise to explain a medical condition that qualifies me for a service dog, she judged it and me as abusing the system. I’m pretty sure that’s why they didn’t call — which I found unprofessional. I don’t feel the need to explain my medical history with a stranger.
I found the whole experience odd and the location and both owners a bit shady.

Words cannot express how grateful I am that Melissa and Marcus came into our lives. To say my dog has issues is the understatement of the century. After calling several doggy daycares, and being rejected, I found Mutt Maniacs. I explained Buddha’s issues and Melissa didn’t have any hesitation before she said to bring him in the next day.
Buddha loved «camp,» and I loved the facebook photo updates (they dressed him up for Halloween and he was the cutest Wheaten Terrier bumble bee ever). Even when Buddha was crazy Melissa did everything she could to help my husband and I find a solution. I’m so sad we’re moving too far to take Buddha to camp, but if we ever go out of town Melissa will be the person I call to watch him.

I’ve never written a Unilocal review but Marcus and Melissa are so wonderful I felt like I had to.
My dog is basically my kid and I was a nervous wreck before leaving her at Mutt Maniacs for the first time (after reading awful reviews of other boarding facilities around Los Angeles). Not only was my dog, London, so well taken care of but we were kept in the loop of what was going on with her. Marcus and Melissa texted, emailed and answered any and ALL questions we had.
They continually go above and beyond mine and my husbands expectations that we will never take our sweet London anywhere else.

Melissa and Marcus are great people who really take care of your pet while you’re away. They make sure that any new dog gets along with everyone else before they are willing to accept it. Melissa is so accommodating and does her best to work with you. You can text them for updates, too! I definitely recommend them.

I had a great experience boarding my dog here. I found genuinely difficult to find a dog boarding facility that a) was close to home b) would even take my 45 pound dog and c) didn’t charge an arm and a leg per night. Mutt Maniacs delivered on all fronts.
All I had to do to get boarding time scheduled was to come for a quick doggy «interview» to see how my dog would behave with other dogs/​people. This literally lasted about 10 – 15 minutes and we were all set to go. A few minutes of paper work, an exchange of vaccine records, and that was it.
My dog was there for three nights and four days and she was perfect when I came to pick her up. She had a good time and the staff loved her so what more could I ask for?
It was only $ 40 a day which is comparable or even less than other «cage free» boarding places and you can just drop off your dog at the daycare facility on La Cienega as they have a free «taxi» service to the overnight boarding facility. Also, they give you a punch card so that after you’ve boarded for 10 nights, the 11^th night is free. Fantastic.
Essentially, I could not be more pleased and I have booked with them for an even longer stay over the holidays! It’s worth noting that they only charge $ 5 extra as a surcharge for the major holidays which is pretty reasonable.

Five stars for Mutt Maniacs! They are the best. The people who work here really do care about the dogs. I first took my dog here for obedience class, which I HIGHLY recommend. It did wonders for him. Prior to these classes, giving him a bath was a nightmare (scratching, biting, trying to jump out of the tub). Now he stands in the tub patiently as he’s washed. That’s only one of many examples.
Since the class, I’ve taken him here for daycare a few times. I also boarded him for a few days when I was out of town. I can’t say enough good things about the place. They are extremely knowledgeable and caring. Worth every penny!

Still so pleased with Marcus & Melissa!!!
They recently built a brand spankin’ new overnight facility! WOW… nice!
They post photos/​videos of the dogs on facebook, so when I’m away, I can check on my little bundle of joy :)
