The single most important aspect of medicine is to understand that it is truly an art. Every patient is an individual, with different needs and different aspirations.

In sports medicine, we need to tailor our care to your specific situation, whether you are a high performance professional athlete, active military, college athlete, high school athlete, club athlete, recreational athlete, or daily walker. The point is that treatment should be tailored to your specific situation.

With medicine, it is also important to treat each patient with compassion. You never have to ask me what I would recommend for my own family, because I will treat you as family.

I am a partner, companion, and friend in your treatment before I am a surgeon. But if you do indeed need surgery, you can be assured I will give you the best. If there is a better surgeon available to you for your particular problem, I will find him/​her for you.

SCOSI Orthopedics was started by Dr. Allen Lu. This practice is dedicated to bringing the best care to each individual patient. As we grow and expand, we will never forget this.

Dr. Allen Lu is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with additional board certification in sports medicine, who treats each patient as an individual. We can’t alway make everyone perfect, but we will always strive to bring out the very best in each person. Dr. Lu is a teacher, an innovator, and and artist. He develops, performs, and teaches the very newest and cutting edge orthopedic and sports techniques to bring out your perfection.

I am an extremely active runner, gym addict who came into this office with a torn meniscus. Doctor spent about 5 min with me during which he took 2 cell phone calls. He pretty much told me I had arthritis on my knee and obviously a torn meniscus. He told me my only choice would be to stop running because I was too old to fully recover from my injury. I suggested surgery because I have a very active life (I’m a 49 yr old marathon runner by the way) and he agreed to schedule me. I called the office 3 times and left messages to follow up and I never received a call back. 2 months past and I never heard from him.

This place can be really busy depend on the time you visit. So better find time less crowded. My most favorite doctor is Dr. Jackson. Some orthopedics doctors can be moody and not very caring sometime. Dr. Jackson has very best personality and really knows what he is doing and more. Finding a cause of back ache could be tiresome and difficult. After very fast MRI test, he discovered the cause. I am on good hand and currently on the way to get cured.

This place is horrible I called to make sure they take my insurance which is blue cross ppo which I can go anywhere but I wanted to make sure and gave them my ID and they said it’s good to go and I got a sitter to watch my kids because of my Appointment because I have a torn minscous and once I get to there office to check in they tell me they don’t take my insurance sorry bye!!! I’m in freaking crutches! Worse place on earth!

I arrived promptly five minutes before my 2:45pm appointment with Dr. Lu.
Immediately I’d a bad feeling because the waiting room was 95% full. Even though I’d an appointment I waited 2 hours to see the physician assistance Jackson. He was actually quite professional and knowledgeable and I have no complaint about not seeing Dr. Lu. The problem is their ineffective overbooked scheduling system. Not going back for sure.

I made an appointment at 4pm and right now is 5pm. Waited an 1hour and the only thing they said was go downstairs and get xray. What is the point of making an appointment? All the employee were just laughing and doing nothing. And i came here for left side xray and doctor wrote me right side xray. So i had to go back up to get signed.

Dr. Lu was very attentive and genuinely cared. Took the time to listen to my wife’s complaints and provided solutions. Deducted 1 star due to waiting room took 40 minutes. Even with an appointment. Once in the room we waited 35 minutes for the doctor. Ended up leaving with an ankle brace and a followup appointment.

I didn’t have the same experience as other fellow Unilocalers. The staff, at least the nurse that helped me, was very nice and friendly. This office has a few doctors and a Nurse Practitioner. I waited 45minutes to see the NP with his interns? The NP walked in and behind him were two other ppl. He didn’t even apologize for the time I waited (yes, I should have left but it’s hard for me to get time off from work) or introduce who these ppl who were going to be present in my session with him were. That was annoying. He was dismissive about my pain and suggested physical therapy. Showed me a few exercises to do and then he walked out and said, that’s it. He was nice but a bit rushed. After, one of the ppl in the room was completing my referral for PT and exited from the room. She was very dismissive as well and sends me to the front desk to have the secretary make my appt. this girl needs to get her knowledge straight because first she said, they have Saturday appt and then she says no, tells me an available date but then changes it when confirming it and I told her I could only do pms but was scheduling me for ams appt. ugh, I was not satisfied with coming here at all. Rather go to a chiropractor. Will not be following up here.

My mom was referred here for a second opinion by our IPA group. I was afraid she’d have to go through the excruciatingly long process of scheduling/​authorization request/​approvals because the last time we had tried to see a specialist-​they weren’t able to fit us into their calendar for ONE WHOLE MONTH. Fortunately, scheduling with SCOSI Orthopedics was extremely painless and we were able to get an appointment the same day with Dr. Fan! (We didn’t expect this therefore we went the next day instead-​but it’s just nice to have options)
Upon arriving at the office, I was greeted by the extremely friendly staff. It was actually quite overwhelming because there were so many of them and they were ALL. SO. NICE. I’m used to waiting 45+ min in nearly-​empty waiting rooms and so my heart sank when I saw how packed the room was. We sat down and like two minutes later, we were called in to the exam room. It turns out, there are multiple providers at this location. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Lu and Jackson. They were both patient, knowledgable, and really took the time to listen to us vent about our struggles-​it was like therapy. They meticulously went over our XR/​MRI and thoroughly explained everything in terms we could understand. We came to the conclusion that my mom needed to see an interventional pain management doctor and we scheduled with Dr. Chang (another provider at the office) and he even taught my mother isometric core exercises! (I love it when people do demonstrations).
My mother and I have zero complaints about this office. I’m honestly still quite mind-​blown by how this practice operates.

I’m not one to normally complain but the service we received from the front office is UNACCEPTABLE. I originally placed this review as one star but it was solely based off of the front office experience. However, the physician and back office employees were more receptive and helpful which brought my rating higher.
Came into this office because my boyfriend had broken his hand. When we called in to confirm an authorization from insurance went through, it took being stuck on hold for 30 minutes and three different receptionists to finally state that it went through. When we finally came into the office, the front desk staff was extremely rude– did not greet us or acknowledge that we arrived– because they were too busy talking about being on a diet or giggling amongst themselves. Seeing that my boyfriend is a new patient, he had to be the person to ask where to sign in and if he needed to fill out any paperwork. The front desk girl sharply stated «oh yeah, fill that out» and instantly went back to their side chit chat, giggling and randomly screaming «DAMNIT» out loud. I found this to be extremely unprofessional and rude. We did not feel welcomed but rather that our appearance for the appointment was interrupting their discussion. Not sure if we just came at a bad time or if this is how it always is but it was not a pleasant experience.

I’m coming here to get my Sciatica checked out. My first visit here was awesome! The ladies at the front desk are very nice and helpful and they work fast. They speak english And are fluent in Chinese. The doctor, which is Doctor Chang is the Man. I mean, if you want a Orthopedic doctor who will answer your questions to your problems he is it. Having Sciatica, he even Demonstrated certain stretching techniques and Yoga poses I should do, instead of just telling me how to do it. Dr. Chang is young and Sharp compared to older doctors who just write off meds and send you on thier way.

I am very pleased with my first appointment with Dr. Lu. He is thorough, attentive and makes a real and genuine effort to come up with a solution to a complex knee problem. We discussed each issue/​injury and went over every possible treatment. It was a true consultative process and I am looking forward to surgery.

I’ve been waiting until after my surgery to rate Dr. Lu and how I was feeling post surgery. I was originally going to another doctor who was so booked that he referred me to Dr. Lu. I can honestly say that I’m very happy he was booked and that I was able to have him do my surgery.
I have had 3 previous knee surgeries and was getting diagnosed with another torn ACL and meniscus so I’ve been through this dance before. I’ve dealt with enough orthopedic surgeons who think they are Gods in the medical field and Dr. Lu is the complete opposite of that. His bedside manner is the best I’ve ever experienced! He’s very thorough and explains everything while still listening to my concerns and making sure I was comfortable moving forward. He used a newer procedure on me where they drill from the inside of the joint instead of using plugs for the graft. I’m 9 days removed from surgery and almost have my full range of motion back.
I was really concerned with the amount of morphine that is used on me to put me under because I get really sick. The anesthesiologist (Dr. Chang) said he doesn’t use morphine and Dr. Lu made sure he used a blocker on me so I woke up feeling the best I’ve ever felt after any of my previous surgeries! I will update this post if anything changes but this truly has been the best experience I’ve ever had with an orthopedic surgeon and I would refer Dr. Lu, his staff and this surgical center to anybody that asks!

This review is of Dr. Lu. It is not of SCOSI Orthopedics. Dr. Lu was a compassionate doctor who made me feel confident in his abilities for my arthroscopic carpal tunnel release surgery. Sadly, things went awry when my surgery ended with some nerve damage and there was no follow through from him or his office when I first reported a problem. I am worse off than when I started. I have numbness in my index, middle, and ring finger that never fully went away, and it is almost a full two years later. I understand risks always come with procedures such as this, but what added insult to injury was the lack of attention and follow through and what I felt as a complete disregard to my concerns after the surgery. I had second and third opinions including another nerve conductive study performed on the state of my hand after surgery and I still have carpal tunnel issues on top of nerve damage.

We went to Dr. Lu for a second opinion for our daughter who had injured her ankle. We felt that he really listened to us and explained our options. He showed genuine empathy about her being out of sports for a while, but seemed to care more about her long term welfare. The staff was friendly and helpful both on the phone and when we got there. We could highly recommend him to anyone – we wish he was the first doctor we saw instead of the second opinion.

So far my experience has been great. I’m surprised that this is the first review. The office was very clean and the doctor and staff were very friendly and helpful. I got stuck in traffic on the way there and I was still able to keep my appointment as if I was on time. Although he had to give me bad news about my knee, I am confident that Dr. Allen P LU will give me the best care.
