WZPL 99.5

Listening to them right now. They always brighten my early morning ride! Dave smiley and his crew are nothing less than funny and talk about relatable topics. 100.9 is fine, but it is geared for 18 – 21. 99.5 is great for all.

Well let’s be honest 5 stars for a morning show in indy isn’t really possible. However if you leave home going to work and want to hear about someone else’s kid then this is the show for you. Noah is doing well in case you haven’t heard. Always bet against Lucas and you will win. Don’t worry Toni will have another one on the way in no time and maybe that one will get a few questions right. KJ has cats as we all no. For those of you without cats they are basically a paperweight that hide from you and crap. So really they should never be a topic of discussion. I’ll leave Will alone he already knows he sucks. Other than that this is a good morning show that for some reason I tend to listen to most mornings on my way to work. I’m in desperate need of satellite radio.

I’m bummed to be giving this radio station only three stars when I’ve been a dedicated listener for the last nine years. I think Smiley, albeit often annoying, makes a great morning show. KJ is the perfect addition and just the balance that is needed. My issue is what I assume is the new management and the changes they have implemented. No traffic? Now I have to change the station in the morning to find out why I’m stuck in traffic. Kim Iverson? Are you kidding me? I will never tune in after 7pm now. And 99.5 used to always have repetitive music but it is now out of control. I think they have a playlist of 10 songs they play over and over. I now find myself switching the station so I don’t go completely crazy with their terrible music. Sorry 99.5 but you aren’t number one, or even two or three on my list anymore.

I don’t really know why both 99.5 and 100.9 exist in Indy. I don’t see any substantive difference between them at all. In fact, I’ll often hear the same song on both stations at the same time.
I can see why Smiley would annoy people, but secretly, I like him. He’s like that irritating class clown that you try not to laugh at, but you just can’t help smirking behind your sleeve. I also like Gasman. I wish I would win free gas from him!

I’ve been a fan of this Top 40, mainstream for a really long time. But I didn’t listen in the mornings for several years because I was so annoyed by Smiley. He is pretty obnoxious, but I don’t dislike him nearly as much as I used to because, for nothing more than an open bar tab, he has contributed his time to emcee for a charity event that my company has put together for the past couple of years. So now I like him more and can listen to the station again.
The new Hollywood dirt with Carlos Diaz is a good addition to the morning show, and I do miss hearing Kelly McKay in the afternoons. Apparently, according to the station’s website, she’s on an extended leave of absence so now they’re playing a craptastic Ryan Seacrest show instead — not cool. Still, this station is a good choice if you are looking for mainstream pop/​rock/​etc.
