A very UNIQUE experience for traveling and touring around the canal area. It is a beautiful area and the bike rentals are not too expensive. We did a four person bike and it came out to $ 7.50/person.

Given that Indianapolis has spent $ 62 million on great new downtown bike paths, we figured it would be worth our while to fork over a few of our own pennies for afternoon rentals. For the record, there is a bike share program(Pacers Bikeshare) here, and it’s open for tourists to use, but the pricing structures favor commuters(annual memberships) and short rides(less than 30 minutes). We also saw that some area bike shops offer rentals too, but those emphasized the need for advance reservations, something we weren’t willing to do, given the unpredictability of spring weather in this part of the country. So we went with a last-minute stop at Wheel Fun, which seems to get most of its business renting novelty vehicles like surreys, tandems, and«choppers», and which seems to hire seasonal teenage labor rather than bike geeks. But their hybrid bikes were fully functional, and just what we wanted for an afternoon of exploration.
