Edit 2÷4÷2016: this review has been edited, as Unilocal removed my prior review after the business owners complained about my use of their full names in my post. It now says«sales rep» and«manager» in accordance with Unilocal’s guidelines. Sorry, University Moving, but I will never forget. —- original post with names redacted follows: I hired University Moving and Storage to relocate me from Greenwood, IN to Phoenix, AZ. They sent a sales rep out to my house, who surveyed my home and gave me a firm«not to exceed» price. PS – If you have never moved before, ALWAYS get a «not to exceed» firm price from the mover so they can’t bill you more later. The agreed upon time period was for pick up on 8÷5÷2013 and delivery between 8⁄12 — 8⁄16. That seemed like a reasonable timeframe for a move across the country. Oh, the total: $ 3800. So on moving day(8⁄5), the team of 3 movers showed up on time and got everything loaded quickly. The experience was great! I thanked them, tipped them well, and sent them on their way. It was explained to me that my stuff would be loaded on a North American Van Lines truck and would be delivered to me in Arizona sometime between 8⁄12 and 8⁄16. I arrived in Arizona, and I got a call on 8⁄11 from a North American Van Lines Truck Driver saying my stuff would arrive on Tuesday, 8⁄13. I was excited — I couldn’t believe everything had gone so well. The next day, I got a call from my sales rep(my moving coordinator) at University Moving, who informed me that they didn’t get everything on the truck, and that part of my shipment was«OVERFLOW.» I was irritated, but nice, as my rep promised quick delivery of the rest. The truck driver showed up 8⁄13 and unloaded what he had. My rep called during the unload to make sure everything was going fine, and told me not to worry and that I would have my «OVERFLOW» shipment the following week. Again, I had a sales rep out to estimate how much space i would need — there really was no reason that it shouldn’t fit. Today(8⁄16) I received a call from University Moving with the delivery date for the rest of my stuff. 9⁄2 — 9⁄5 — a MONTH after it was picked up in Indiana. Here’s the thing: –The«OVERFLOW» items were mostly my home office stuff: desks, chairs, etc. I work from home, so I need a desk to work. I have none, since it didn’t make the initial truckload. –They didn’t call me to ask me which items I wanted left behind. They simply made the decision for me(and it was wrong). –They brought my dining room table and 4 chairs, which I could have used in the meantime, except: They forgot to bring the hardware to mount the legs to the table, which means I have a table, 4 legs, and 3 chairs that I cannot assemble, just sitting in my living room! –I am working from home sitting on the stairs in my condo because I have no desk. When my laptop is dying, I have to go stand in the kitchen and charge it. By the time my stuff shows up, assuming they deliver on time the second time, I will have done this for a month. The manager of University Moving and Storage contacted me and seemed nice. I was hopeful that he would offer me some sort of resolution. After 15 minutes of small talk, he passed the buck to North American Corporate, saying the move was out of his hands. He could not make the shipment happen faster, refused to do anything for me financially, and did not accept responsibility for his staff not reserving the proper amount of truck space. Instead, he made excuses about how people end up with more stuff on the truck than expected, and it creates«OVERFLOW.» But not me — I had the sales rep at my house to evaluate, and as a moving company, they should plan for this sort of thing to happen. He gave me the phone number for North American Van Lines Corporate, saying that they would issue a partial refund for my inconvenience. I called and explained my situation and was told by the rep on the phone that North American doesn’t give inconvenience partial refunds if the reason is «OVERFLOW», despite the fact that the contract that I have says they will deliver by the 16th of August. They offered me $ 200 to buy a new desk and chair, to which I could submit a receipt and(hopefully) be reimbursed. No thank you.
