This location is usually pretty busy. I wouldn’t recommend it if you are hoping to read or get any work done, but if you just need to pop in for a drink and leave they are fast and efficient. The line for the register starts to the right of the display in the middle of the store. It makes it more tempting to leave with a huge cookie or pastry but try to resist! The baristas at this location have always been kind and speedy. They do also have a walk up window but I honestly never use it. I think it is quicker to go inside. If you happen to have a pup with you though the walk up window is a nice option to have. If you order drip coffee they may ask if you want to have that made on the Clover, it takes a little longer but if you are a coffee lover it is worth giving it a try if you have the extra time.

Starbucks is crappy and mediocre, but the location on Mass Ave takes it to a whole new level. Grungy tables and floor, confusing store layout, and a terrible Frappuccino all made this a lousy experience. I only came here out of desperation for a place to hang out for an hour or so, but I think I’d be better off on a random street corner.

I ended up here, largely against my will, and regret it. It’s worse than it was when I last reviewed it. Dark, dingy, dirty … I guess the best you can say about it is that it’s a nice hangout for the city’s homeless population. But gads, even the homeless should have something better than this! The iced coffee I had was awful. Cloyingly sweet, syrupy, sloppy, and artificial tasting. And as we left, the garbage can overflowing with its refuse was a nice touch.

Dear Mass Ave, Why, oh why, do you not have a local coffee shop along your street? With so many wonderful local coffee roasters, I hope this problem is fixed in the near future. Until then, this Starbucks will have to do. It’s a tight squeeze with limited seating and seems like there is constant traffic flow throughout the day(surprise, surprise). Hands down the coolest part is the walk up window. You read that right: no drive thru, but a walk up window. Absolutely genius. Probably cuts down on traffic jams in the store during busy times of day.

I find it hard to rate corporate /chains because they’re very similar, no matter where you go, in terms of the food and products. With that being said, this review isn’t based on the food/drinks, but rather the service, the quickness of the drinks and orders being made, and the location. This is located a couple of blocks from my work, so it’s always nice to walk down here to bring my lunch and grab a drink and people watch. I love the walk-up window and the free pup cups they offer! It’s always a pretty busy joint, so it’s not the best place to come for a chilled and relaxing atmosphere. Other than that, a pretty good Starbucks experience.

I don’t like the new layout indoors, too tight for someone in a wheelchair, the flow is just wrong. Like spawning salmon at the end of the line. Where are the soft seating outdoors? Where’s the previous much friendlier staff? It’s ok, i do enjoy the new bakery they went with for desserts!

Was almost late for work because I didn’t plan on the 15 minute wait. I loved the walk-up window, but not sure it was worth it to me. The guy behind me told me the wait is always this long and there are no more than three people working. There were two working that day during the morning rush. I realized after I checked my app that I was not given a cup discount.

I am a regular customer. It always seems like they’re understaffed, but they make good drinks! Expect to wait a few minutes.

This Starbucks just broke my heart. I know that they were super busy and I can actually empathize because I used to work at Starbucks, but they totally botched my drink. I ordered the s’more frappucino. They used the wrong whipped cream, minimal chocolate, and used too much base which causes the drink to be too runny. The whipped cream was also lumpy. What a waste of almost 6 bucks.

My favorite Starbucks in the city for people watching, especially in the summer. On a First Friday, there can be a bit of a wait but the staff is always friendly and the décor has more character than its suburban counterparts.

Aaron, Kevin, and the staff of the Mass Ave Starbucks are by far the best in any Starbucks I’ve been around the country! The staff not only learns your face, but your name and your drink. They always greet you with a smile, the store is kept immaculate, and I look forward to my coffee every day. If you’re in downtown Indy, be sure to stop in!

No matter what time of the day I swing by the Starbucks on Mass Ave, there is always a line of people. Thankfully it moves quickly, although with usually only barista working, it can take 5 – 10 minutes from the time you pay until you get your drink. Still, this is one of my favorite Starbucks locations for a few reasons: 1) No drive-thru window. Instead, there’s a walk-up window during daylight hours. With all of the foot traffic on Mass Ave, this is genius. 2) To my knowledge, this is(at the time of writing this review) the only location in Indianapolis with a Clover machine. Sure. some people can’t tell the difference, but I think the coffee that comes off this machine has a richer, deeper flavor. I also avoid adding anything to my coffee when drinking something off the clover. so perhaps my mind just thinks it’s better when it really isn’t. Either way, kudos to the Marketing folks at Sbux HQ for figuring out a way to get more money for a cup of joe. 3) The people here are just downright friendly. Even with a line almost to the door, they still manage to have a smile on their face. Even the Sunday before Christmas, when Mass Ave was packed with last minute shoppers needing a caffeine fix!

This Starbucks causes me stress. I go to it almost every weekend and every weekend I end up walking by a handful of local and, to my mind, better coffee shops on my way to Starbucks. So why do I keep going back? Simply stated: the walk-up window. I love the walk-up window because it allows me to secure my morning caffeine while out on a walk with Humphrey, my awesome, but somewhat skittish cocker spaniel. I hate having to tie Humphrey outside of a coffee shop while I am inside ordering coffee and the walk-up window is a great solution for us. This window is in no way an express window, nor does it function like a drive-through, with dedicated staff assigned to only managing window orders. In fact, if you are not tethered to the outdoors by a dog, a bike, or other whatever that prevents you from entering the store, you are better off entering the store. For me and Humphrey, this window has become part of our weekend routine and I wouldn’t change anything about it.

Too bad it’s a chain, but it least it’s in the Davlan(historic building) and has some outdoor seating. I’d rather patronize a non-chain, but no other coffee shop options in the immediate vicinity that fit the bill… Plus, you always run into someone you know there.

A chain — I know, I know. I can’t help but be a fan of Starbucks — I would pick the local coffee shop(particularly Henry’s and Clavin Fletcher) any day over Starbucks, but in the same breath I wouldn’t bash Starbucks like I would other big chains like Walmart. Somehow this ginormous business(at least the ones I have visited and especially the Mass Ave location) has achieved a small town-feel with friendly employees despite its big world reality. Some may consider it a marketing stunt, but I can’t help but smile every time I see their«Create Jobs for USA» program. This particular location was remodeled and expanded during the summer of 2012. From time to time, you might find me on their spacious patio people watching and working on one of my latest paint-by-number«masterpieces». My visits to Starbucks are few and far between, but the caramel apple chai never fails to do the trick!
