Segway of Indiana

I thought it wouldn’t be difficult, and probably a lot of fun. So while in Indy on a work trip, I decided to try something new. «Sawyer» was our Segway tour guide… and after a brief instructional and practice period, we were on our way. Very quickly I learned that I had NO IDEA what I had gotten myself into as I sped top speed through the family-​filled park — -TERRIFIED! Sawyer quickly maneuvered in front of me and caught my runaway segway. Pheeeew… Okay, so after another attempt at explaining the stopping position, we were off. In this particular section of downtown Indy, there is a Beautiful park (White River State Park) with a river that flows through the center and spills into a canal that winds through a thriving tourist, business and residential district… it is GORGEOUS! Anyway, I never really mastered the braking position, so as we’re going over the bridge, I start picking up speed again on the decline. Once again, at a speed that would have garnered a ticket, I’m flying down the other end of the bridge — - extremely terrified that I may flip over the railing into the river OR go into the street and be struck by a car. I absolutely LOVE my life, so THANK GOD Sawyer was there yet again (with his reassuring tone and calm demeanor) to save me from myself. Although at times it was a frightening experience for me, it was also one of the most fun! Alot like riding a scary roller coaster, free fall or some other thrilling ride. Once I was able to control the segway better, Sawyer gave us a lot of historical and fun facts about a city he clearly loves and enjoys! I would definitely recommend this company, but more specifically, Sawyer. I had to very quickly trust this absolute stranger with my life… and I could say with certainty — -with SAWYER as my guide, I would do it ALL over again! Everyone may not be as awkward as I was… and I’m not trying to scare anyone from experiencing this as a first time rider — -I’m saying, if you’re ever going to try it… do it with Sawyer as your guide, and KNOW that he will not let anything happen to you. I learned so much about Indianapolis and I will be back soon with my family, but this time, it’ll be on my own personal time. Excellent. We loved it so much we are going to give them as gifts. The equipment was clean and in excellent shape. Courtney our tour guide was knowledgeable and did a great job. The tour was beautiful and took us around the white river, zoo, and canals. We will do it again!

Great intro to city. Easy to learn Segway. Guide was knowledgeable and very friendly (Courtney). Beautiful scenery, canal area especially. Kids 14 and over only. Just right length.

Segway of Indiana is serious about its name. According to resident Segway guru Chris Moyer, it’s the only place in the state to buy a Segway.
I suspect the bulk of their business is via the tours of Indianapolis they offer. One package for up to six people includes a trip around White River State Park for $ 45 per person, but they have other tours that are a bit pricier. Of course, everyone gets to tour on a segway. Just remember to hold on when you stop.
