We have passed this restaurant many times and just assumed it was out of our price range because of the words«fine dining» in their name. I’m so glad Unilocal reviewer, Wanda M., told me about this place. My family and I stopped in for dinner last night and was worried because the place was completely empty. But, the owner was also the cook and he was very friendly and accommodating. It is my understanding that the menu changes near daily so most of what was on the menu was an assortment of burgers, some sandwiches, turkey ribs(we didn’t know what they were either) and Japanese Catfish. At first I hesitated because I just wasn’t in the mood for a burger or sandwich but we really wanted to know if this place was worth coming back to so we dove in. My husband had the turkey ribs, which as we understand it, is white meat with the one thin«rib» bone and covered in BBQ sauce. My husband really liked it and said it was lots of meat and he would come back to have this dish again. I didn’t try it but I did get a taste of his candied yams and they were really good! I didn’t really like the mac n cheese but I think it is the southern style mac that I’m not crazy about, which is what this was. My daughter had the Japanese Catfish filet with homemade tarter sauce. I am not a fan of catfish ATALL but gave this a try and it was perfectly breaded and fried and had a delicate white fish taste… not the usual musty, algae tasting catfish that I intensely dislike. Both of these dishes came with the option of two of the following sides: fries, greens, mac n cheese or candied yams. My niece opted for a bacon burger and I went with the breaded tenderloin sandwich and we both had fries(yes, you can get ANY side item they have on the menu). Everyone at our table shared the hot wing appetizer. There were a few types of hot sauce for the wings and we went with a very mild sauce because of the kids. Honestly, I would have liked it better if we had kicked it up a notch because I found the sauce to be the slightest bit sweet and I don’t think«sweet» has any business on hot wings but it was well cooked and came with celery and a very mild blue cheese dressing which even the kids loved. Let’s just say the plate went back to the kitchen almost clean enough to be put back on the shelf! As for the bacon burger, it was perfectly cooked and hearty enough for an adult appetite. Then we get to my tenderloin; being the tenderloin aficionado/snob that I am, I asked the owner if they are made in house or come frozen. He said he breads his own and I was very pleased with the size, the breading and the thickness of the tenderloin. It was perfect, perfect, perfect! Also, it just dawned on me that between the fries, the tenderloin and the catfish, all of which were fried — not a single thing was«greasy» or tasted«fried». That, alone, is worthy of giving this place a go. Great owner, service, home cooking, will do anything they can to please you and very reasonably priced! Really, a «best kept secret.» Please give them a try. We’ll be back before the end of the week!

OMD Dining is directly off of 56th Street, East of Guion Road &VP. There is a large tree directly in front of Plaza signage so extremely easy to miss. Hopefully the landlord will remove the sign blockage to improve visibility for all the businesses in Guion Plaza. Mary chose the name for the restaurant opening a year & half ago and named after the family — Odell(Dad), Mary(Mom), and Son Derrick(OMD). The restaurant is a warm and inviting family owned eatery serving comfort food to all that enter. Odell and Mary are two of the nicest folks and I enjoyed listening to Odell describe, with pride, his favorites and those of his regulars. He’s currently revising the menu so I selected from his personal recommendations and he didn’t steer me wrong. A few of the most popular dishes is the Louisiana Catfish(fried or baked), Buffalo Wings drenched in hot sauce or Tiger Wings(in tiger sauce), Tenderloin Sandwich marinated in special tiger sauce(yummy), Mac & Cheese or Greens & Cornbread. Let us not forget the ever popular peach or pear cobbler! Saturday mornings is biscuits and gravy with fried potatoes. Sunday is Soul Food Sundays. Now I’m hungry again! Odell is the kind of Chef who says«Call a day before if you’re hungry for something special such as Biscuits and Gravy and I’ll have ready for you next day». This is service! My tenderloin sandwich was pan seared and crispy on the outside yet tender inside. Smoothed in Odell’s special tiger sauce provides a slightly sweet BBQ flavor with a touch of heat on the sandwich. The sauce is delicious and I’m already visualizing me and a basket of Tiger Wings. Mary’s lip-smacking cornbread had just come out of the oven after I ordered so of course I had to try a piece. Moist and not overly sweet yellow cornbread hit the spot and I’m sure would be perfect with Marys’ greens. Next trip. Call ahead, grab your family and check them out for lunch or dinner. Or call ahead and order carry out!

Such a great place — it needs a better sign so people will know it’s here, hopefully this Unilocal post will help spread the word about this gem. It’s just east of the VP on 56th Street. The dining room was comfortable with simple yet effective décor with some curtains and couches breaking up the open spaces. There were two televisions with college sports on display. We tried this place over the weekend for dinner, there are lots of great options on the menu, the waiter gave us the inside scoop and told us his personal favorites and ones the crowds have been enjoying — he also let us know about the daily special. I couldn’t resist the lure of fried catfish — this seemed like the place that could make it right and I was correct. The catfish dinner came with two large fillets in a light cajun style breading, cooked expertly. It was beyond perfect; crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside — the breading and the cooking techniques were masterful. Surprisingly enough, even though I had two large fried catfish fillets neither my mouth nor my hands felt greasy. It came with two sides and a square of tasty, moist cornbread. I opted for the baked sweet potato and corn, both were excellent and complimented the meal nicely, the corn was in a light buttery sauce, ummm. They offered an array of soda and sweet tea — I usually only drink unsweetened tea so I just had water, it would be nice to see a few more options, but I got by just fine. Come try this place out — they offer some great american comfort foods and some southern style dishes. I know I’ll be back for more catfish and I need to try their«Tiger Sauce».
