Business Owner

Joanna Tam, OD was born and raised in Indiana. She graduated in 2008 with her doctorate of optometry from the Indiana University School of Optometry. Dr. Tam has a passion for optometry that began in undergrad at Indiana University Bloomington while working as a file-​girl for the university affiliated eye care center. Her understanding of the field — literally from the bottom up — gives her a unique perspective, respect, and understanding of patients’ needs so that you get the best care and ultimate experience.

Dr. Tam is thorough, thoughtful and professional! Her shop in South Broad Ripple is so nice and inviting. She can help with eye exams, frames and lenses. I went to her with a problem I had with a lens prescription I was given by a different doctor/​retailer, and Dr. Tam was knowledgeable, caring and patient as she helped me to get the correct prescription.

Dr. Tam is AMAZING! She fit me in on super short notice and she was so helpful and informative while giving me my exam. She also helped me make the best decision for contacts through my insurance, ensuring me the lowest cost necessary. She also usually only has one patient in the office at a time so she is totally devoted to your visit. I was not in the market for new glasses this visit, but she had a large selection of a lot of different styles in many different price ranges. I wouldn’t go to any other optometrist while living here!

Dr. Tam is so wonderful! She completely devotes her time to each patient as she is the only one in the office while you are there. Best eye doctor I have been to! She made the appointment 2 hours long incase you need extra help to ask questions, decide on frames, etc. but I went during lunch and she was able to complete my entire eye exam in 30 minutes!

Joanna Tam bends over backwards to serve her patients well. She has a great bedside (or chairside?) manner. Her practice has a very homey feel and she focuses a lot of attention on you. If you can’t complete the exam for any reason (for instance, if you can’t have your eyes dialated that day, or if you’re rushed for time during your lunch hour), she will allow you to come back to finish the exam at a later date, without charging you a second time. There were issues with our insurance company reimbursing the glasses we wanted to purchase, and while the issue did not get resolved in the end, she really bent over backwards to try to get our glasses for us. In the end, she was really helpful to the other eyeglass retailer that we ended up using, providing both our prescription and the pupillary distance to them very willingly. Other optometrists that we’ve used have put up a fight in providing pupillary distance measurements in order to keep patients from getting glasses from other businesses– Joanna Tam doesn’t do this. She is a professional, courteous optometrist and I will definitely go back to her for my vision exam every year, and recommend her to all of my friends!

I recently went in to look for new glasses. Dr. Tam helped me find just the right pair for me and was very helpful in letting me know about all my options (most of which I didn’t know were available).
