Mays Chemical Company began March 3, 1980 by William G Mays, (Founder, Owner & Chairman). Mays Chemical is a fully integrated chemical distributor, recognized as an optimal source for chemicals, related raw materials, formulated products, outsourcing services, such as liquid and dry blending, sieving, and customized packaging, PLUS chemical management expertise. And now more!

Meet the Business Owner

William M.

Business Owner

The son of two schoolteachers, William G. Mays was born in Evansville, Indiana, on December 4, 1945. His parents were strong advocates of higher education & encouraged him to excel in his studies. He thrived in this culture of learning, and graduated from Evansville Lincoln High School in 1963 at the top of his class. He went on to Indiana University in Bloomington, where he majored in chemistry. After earning his B.A. in 1970, Mays was offered a Consortium Fellowship for advanced studies. He accepted the award & applied it to graduate studies in marketing & finance at Indiana University where he received an M.B.A. in 1973.

Armed with both scientific background and business acumen, Mays was well prepared for the challenges of the business world. He worked at Cummins Engine Company for 4 years then was offered the position of president of Specialty Chemicals (small distribution plant– Indianapolis.) Mays left Specialty Chemicals in 1980 & became an entrepreneur, founding Mays Chemical.
