TWO Stars… Damn skippy 2 stars for the service, taking tickets at one door while the line stretched outside. Serving bagged chips at the intermission so the second half of the show was accompanied by bag rattle in stereo. Finally the show started 20 minutes late. On a positive the building is absolutely beautiful and a great example of preserving Indy history.

Historic theatre. I have lived in/around Indy for almost 11 years and had never been here. The story of Madame Walker as the first self-made female millionaire in the US is an added bonus and is quite inspiring. The theatre itself is kind of old, but that’s part of its charm. It may be the antithesis of, say, Carmel’s Palladium in many ways. I hope it survives.

This is a gorgeous historic landmark! While sitting in the auditorium, I just sat there staring at all the ornate North African art deco décor. So cool!

What a beautiful treasure of a building. I had never been here before and had not really driven much in that part of Indy. The event I attended — well — it was below par, but that didn’t detour me from the fact that the architecture of the theatre was stunning. I’m sure when they hold a killer show, the performance plus the ambiance of the room is fantastic. I’m hopeful that I’m able to attend such a show.

Indy is fortunate to have a beautiful stash of history-rich theatres. I especially like the Madame Walker for its location(Indiana Avenue Cultural District) and old-timey feel. The story behind Madame Walker’s female success as the country’s first female millionaire adds to the charm and narrative of the building. The interior of the building is on the aged side which has pros and cons. I’ve also hosted a meeting in the ballroom of the theater and was very pleased with the set-up, sound, etc.

A gem of a theater. Saw John Waters’ one-man show there and it was the perfect intimate venue.

The new Madame Walker Theatre is where its at! They have some dope events(Soul Food Fridays, Blue Moon Sunday, etc.) and bring some dope celebrities(Hill Harper, Bilal, Tye Tribbett, Malik Yoba). They are also a great place to hold an event. The staff is like family and they make sure you feel welcome whenever you go there!
