Moving to Fountain Square means enjoying some of my favorite Mexican cuisine weekly. I could rave about the food for days, but it’s the margaritas that keep me coming back. I have a feeling this is my new go-to FS restaurant.

My favorite downtown spot for Mexican! My go-to order was/still is El Toro which is two enchiladas with rice, beans etc(I opt for 1 chicken, 1 cheese). They made changes about a year ago and took it off the menu :(BUT they still let me order it every time. Pair it with a margarita and their delicious(free!) assortment of salsas and chips and I’m set! I have been unimpressed with:(1) queso, which is a fried pan of cheese that hardens quickly.(2) strawberry margarita, which tastes syrupy and made from a mix. The outdoor patio is perfect in warmer months. The entrance is off Virginia avenue now. You have to walk through a hallway to find the door. A little confusing but worth it! Park wherever you can. And maybe call ahead to get a feel for the wait time. You can’t make reservations and it can be busy weekend nights.

As a long-time vegan, I’ve become so accustomed to having to order a bunch of sides every time I eat Mexican food that I can almost place my order in my sleep. After reciting my usual ala carte order at most strip-mall Mexican joints I drown the food in hot sauce and just try to stuff it in my face as quickly as possible. This is where La Margarita stands out. Not only can I order off the actual menu(Seitan al pastor!), everything I’ve ever had from them– the salsas to the beans to the verde and rojo sauces– are all perfectly spiced and well seasoned. Every thing on their menu tastes so fresh and so vibrant– I feel like this is how Mexican food is *supposed* to taste. They also have a ridiculous craft beer selection and one of the most informative and expansive tequila and mezcal selections I have ever seen. If you’re not a regular at La Marg, you’re missing out.

The service is here is quick and pretty good. Great menu options that differ from your typical Mexican restaurant and are very well done. Everything is made in house and they source quite a few local places for their food. Great great great margs and their guac is clutch. 4⁄5 due to a chicken burrito that was a little dry.

I love a good margarita every once in a while. I had heard awesome thing about this place, especially about their margaritas. However, I was not impressed with this place. The first time I went, the food was tasty, but I disliked their margaritas. With its name, I figured they’d be top notch. I went back a second one time, thinking the first had been a fluke, and thought the exact same thing-not tasty and super pricey. Sorry, La Margarita, I probably won’t be returning when there are several other joints that are much tastier!

The appetizer was good — we had the queso. The beer beer selection was very good and featured many local brews. Everyone in our group enjoyed the food. However the service was so very slow. It took a lot of time to get our order taken, for the beers to come, the apps and the food. We needed something to do for three hours one afternoon– two of the three hours were spent here mostly waiting on the food. I will try it again sometime when I have a lot of time. Hopefully it was a one time bad service event.

Margaritas aren’t on the menu so ask about all the flavors they offer & you can combine flavors(on the rocks or blended)!

I hadn’t been here for awhile and we stopped here a quick bite to eat and a margarita for an early Sunday lunch. The three types of salsas they serve with their chips are great but I could DRINK the tomatillo salsa! The cilantro in all of their dishes and salsas is the best I’ve ever tasted! And did I mention Margarita! The smoothest, perfectly mixed margarita I’ve had in a long long time! I absolutely love the food here and don’t visit often enough! That is going to change!

Heard this place was a go to place in Fountain Square from friends and was impressed with the food and drinks. The margaritas were strong and were well worth the money! I really enjoyed that the chips came with three different kinds of salsa. The service was really quick and the server was very personable. My one complaint is the food was a little overpriced for what I got. I got the appetizer chicken quesadillas and they were very yummy, but the chicken to cheese ratio was more cheese than chicken. The atmosphere was very upbeat and modern. Overall, I really enjoyed my evening at La Margarita.

Have you ever gone somewhere new with friends and immediately had buyer’s remorse once you see what your friends got vs what you got? Yeah, that happened here. I didn’t HATE what I got because I definitely ATE what I got. The carne asana tacos were delicious! But you know what was even MORE delicious? My friend’s very delicious plate of Chipotle Shrimp. OMGGGGGG. I can smell it and taste it now! I must go back immediately for it! They’re extremely tequila heavy, so while everyone is getting some sort of margarita or fruity mixed drink, the waiter seemed a bit weird when I asked for a non-alcoholic but fun drink, as if I was spitting in his face! Sooooo that had to be the only turn off. They need to steal the spicy salt(literally just Tajin) from Revolucion. Or just buy it themselves because what thy out in the rim of my glass was weird. Okay, I need that shrimp in my life STAT!

Let’s just start by saying if you’re thinking this is an alternative to Bakersfield on mass ave you will be disappointed in both food and drink quality. I’ve visited this establishment three times now hoping I won’t be as underwhelmed as the previous time. Last night was the first time I ordered food. Normally, I stick to the overpriced margaritas. The spicy marg isn’t that spicy, but is a nice alternative if you aren’t looking for the normal sweetness of their house margarita. However, if you are a Bakersfield spicy marg from enthusiast like myself, you might be a little disappointed. La Margarita lacks the freshness in both food and drink that should be expected at their steep prices. After being advised by our server I ordered the Shrimp Tequila, a plate of rice, 7 pieces of shrimp, peppers, one mushroom, and 2 pieces of cactus covered in some flavorless sauce. Honestly, I wouldn’t have been that upset with it all if my plate of nasty wasn’t $ 15.00. I get that it’s not that much, but for poor quality Mexican, I expect to pay a little less. My boyfriend ordered the Burrito Azteca, which is a burrito only full of meat. I’m sorry, but can’t we be a little more interesting than that? Only meat? I won’t be going back voluntarily any time soon. Third time was the charm.

Great service for a Friday night! Was there to meet up with a friend and we got awesome seats, great drinks and delicious food. I’ve never been here before, but I was pleasantly surprised. The margaritas are definitely worth the price and the food was super filling and full of flavor. Will definitely be back here again.

This is one of my favorite spots in fountain square. I’m a big fan of craft beer and these guys do an amazing job keeping some of the best most unique beers on draft. As so many bars try and add more taps to give patrons options without thought about what goes on, La Margarita carefully cultivates a great selection of beer that go so well with their food. They give you a nice selection of 3 different salsas when your chips come out. This helps accommodate all tastes. My favorite menus item is their chicken chorizo nachos. Everything is bright and fresh. The cheese is rich and their salsa is amazing. Last night I tried something new, the burrito Aztecs. This is a half chicken and half carnitas burrito, not blended together but literally the left half has beef and the right half has chicken. It’s a brilliant solution to the question, chicken or beef. I’ve always loved their carnitas so I wasn’t surprised when it was amazing. The meat was spicy and juicy and everything melded so well. I also shared 2 tamales with my brother. I’m usually skeptical when it comes to tamales. If the corn meal is too thick it just ruins the whole meal. These were perfect. It was an awesome blend of corn and meet. The verde sauce is spicy with a little sweet herbalness. I was blown away by how good they were. It doesn’t matter if you love Mexican food or if you love beer, this is the place to go. They do an amazing job.

I am getting hungry right now just thinking about it, one of the best chips and guacamole you can get in downtown Indianapolis. Great beer selection and margaritas. Outdoor seating is by far the way to go with this being in Ft. Square, lots of people watching!

Come for the food… stay for the margaritas. Great food that is filling and priced right. Margaritas are dangerously delicious. Service was wonderful. We will be back. My toddler recommends the mints at the hostess station.

La Margarita is located in Fountain Square underneath the Murphy Arts Building and along the Cultural Trail. They have a great patio area and it was a beautiful day, but it was a 30 minute wait just to get a table outside :(The inside is small but has a large bar area. Chips and three different types of salsa come free with endless refills! The chips were blah and nothing to write home about and one of the salsas had too much kick for me but I loved the green salsa(chili verde?). I got the tacos con pescado(fish tacos for you non-Spanish speakers) and on the one hand the lightly breaded fish(cod?) had great seasoning and wasn’t bland but I was disappointed at how tiny the fish pieces were! Two tacos with one measly fish strip on each. It was good but I was expecting more. My dish came with a side of Spanish rice and guacamole. I suppose you could say it was a nicely portioned meal but it didn’t fill me up that well. My bill without tip was $ 9.75 which was a little pricey considering the amount of food I got. «La Ma» is good but I’m not rushing to get back here. I personally like La Piedad better and I’m more likely to get my Mexican fix in Brip than Fountain Square. I’m bouncing around between a 3 and 4 stars on this but the food was good, so 4 stars it is!

Go for the guac– enough said. It’s chunky, fresh, and feeds about three people. We also got the queso con chile and it tasted like pizza because the cheese was covered in tomato sauce(actually very delicious). The margaritas are very strong and you will definitely get your money’s worth! I got the mango flavored one, but found out that they also make watermelon flavored ones(with real watermelon) during the summer. Can’t wait to try it! My vegetarian quesadilla was really good but was about 90% cheese so would love some more vegetables so fun! We originally came to sit on the patio which ended up being closed(due to wet paint) but it will be open soon!

After reading all the raving reviews I thought I was going to be in for a treat, but I was a bit disappointed. Or maybe I am just spoiled with all the fabulous foodie places popping up around Indy. It was ok I would say. I had the Tequilla Shrimp and i did not enjoy it that much. Somewhat bland, but the potatoes that came with it were really good. The chips and salsa were delicious.

Good Mexican food ranging from the shrimp tacos to the Azteca burrito. The Azteca burrito is a half shredded chicken and half shredded pork filled tortilla. You can get it mild, medium, or hot. I chose medium and that was plenty hot. Costs $ 14 and it comes with rice. Beer selection was excellent. They currently have 6 Rhinegeist beers on tap from Cincinnati Ohio. They also have a tap of Strohs Light if you want a headache the next morning! A lot if people raved about the guacamole. While it was definitely homemade we thought it was so so for the $ 7 price tag.
