Love this YMCA. Indoor bike parking in a prime downtown location? Awesome. Even better is the free parking!
To clarify, the free parking is located in the parking garage one block east, just north of the Artistry. You take the white parking ticket you get when you enter the lot and after your work out, the front desk personnel will give you a second purple ticket. When you exit the garage, you feed the purple ticket into the machine and then the original white ticket and ta-da…free parking. Right now, there’s lots of construction around the area and entering the garage may be tricky, especially with the one-​way streets. I was driving around in circles just yesterday because they redirected traffic, but not a big deal. The walk from the parking lot to the gym is only a matter of minutes and free parking downtown can’t be beat (compared to YMCA at the Athenaeum where parking is $ 1).
The space may be considered small, but there are ample machines and two multipurpose rooms upstairs for group exercise.
On a side note, the bike hub store is a great resource for bike riders. The people there are wonderful. Also, the YMCA Bike Hub is in such a great location, right next to the Indianapolis City Market, where they have a farmer’s market on Saturday mornings.

I’ve taken my bike here a few times. The people are always super nice and knowledgable. They have a small town feel, but are perfectly located on the city.
They have enough product there to get things for an emergency but not so much that you’ll want to shop there. The bigger BGI stores would be better for that. That being said, they will order parts for you and set up times for you to get a tune up or your bike fixed.

Great location in the City Market. Parking has been challenging with all the construction going on as of late, however it is free! My work out buddy and I come here three times a week to lift. It has everything we need. The locker room leaves a bit to be desired. There are HUGE lockers that are like mini-​closets that are not available and looks likes you have to rent them. They need more tall lockers for the space. Staff is always friendly!

Top notch staff and bikes. Rented a Giant carbon bike for a couple days on a recent visit. Treated well by Aubrey and fellow colleagues. Also good to talk trash with them.
Good to bring your own pedals with you if renting. They supply helmet and repair kit. Cost is $ 60 for first day, $ 20 per day after that. Can also pick up a free map of bike trails.
Indy has a great and expanding network or trails. Most drivers very friendly.

I’m here 6 days a week, typically at 5 a.m. open. I lament the lack of group fitness classes at that early hour, but that is really the only negative I can point out about this Indy YMCA location. Plenty of aerobic machines and free weights for the amount of traffic it receives. And, this is no meat market. People are at the Bike Hub to workout their bodies not check out other people’s. You throw in the Bicycle Garage Indy location adjacent to the gym, and you’ve got a great center of activity right next to City Market and City Hall.

This is a great bike shop. Knowledgeable and friendly. And talk about efficient. When I stopped in for a spring tune up they scheduled me. This was unheard of for me. I dropped my bike off at 7am and picked it up after work.

Came in during the bikeshare event over at the market, because the clapper on my bike bell had broken off and I needed a new one. Friendly staff fixed me right up – they even put the bell on my bike at no extra charge. I was in and out in just a few minutes.
I may add a longer review when I actually need to have some work done on the bike, but that’s all I can say right now, and probably all I really need to. They’re convenient to where I work, small but not too cramped, and friendly and helpful. Good enough for me!

As a long time member and strongman supporter of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis I love using the Bike Hub location.
The location of this Y is perfect for a downtown area resident like me. I can ride my bike over to get my blood pumpin and then hit the weights, grab a class, or attempt to run once I’m here. I’ve only had the chance to take a few classes but between what’s offered here and at Athenaeum there’s always something.
The staff at this location is awesome too. If you create any sort of routine they’ll recognize and personality greet you every time you walk in.
As a bike rider I’d also like to add the perks of the bike shop in the gym. How awesome is that?!

Due to a move, the Indy Bike Hub Y has recently become my new go-​to gym. Being used to going to the Jordan Y for the past year, the smaller and less crowded gym was a nice change. This gym has all the usual equipment you would go looking for in any gym. They have the whole spectrum of machines for both upper and lower body, and plenty of free weights along with a squat rack, smith machine, plenty of benches, and a cable motion machine. The cardio area has more than enough treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals to almost always find an empty machine. The first floor with the cardio equipment also has the TV’s, but you can see a couple from the upper floors if you try. They offer classes, most of which are free to members, and the size is always small. It’s a great way to actually get what feels like 1 on 1 instruction for a workout routine. If you are self-​conscience about working out in front of other people, this would be a good gym to come try. There is also usually background music playing just loud enough to hear the song, but I wouldn’t say it is the best workout playlist so bring some headphones if having music matters.
It’s very clean, and the locker rooms are really nice, especially compared to previous gyms I have been to. Similar to my experience at other YMCA locations, the staff is excellent and very friendly, always welcoming you in and wishing you well when you leave. The indoor bike parking is awesome, and is very convenient to have a safe place to keep your bike indoors. I will stop here just to park my bike if I am doing something downtown, knowing that it will be locked up inside a place with limited access. If you can’t make it on two wheels, there is free parking in the lot across from the Y on Alabama. Designated spots for members are in the northwest corner of the lot. The location couldn’t really get any better. It’s right off of the Indy Cultural Trail, 2 blocks from the circle, and literally attached to City Market, giving you a great place to go refuel with either some delicious food or an ice cold beer after a workout. The building also houses the downtown Bicycle Garage Indy, so all of your bike needs are right inside.
My only complaint is the hours. It’s open at 5 during the week, which is early enough for most people to get a workout in before work, but it closes at 8. By the time I get errands ran after work, dinner eaten, and finally to the gym, my workouts are rushed as closing time is already quickly approaching. Just adding 1 extra hour would make a big difference. Saturdays it is closed at 4, and they don’t even open on Sundays.

This place is spot on.
Excellent location downtown — easy to get to and very useful for people who commute (bike) from surrounding neighborhoods to work.
They are quick and finished the work my bike needed within an hour, called and left a voicemail that my bike was ready before I was expecting it!
Their prices are not the cheapest but they do great work thats reliable and get it done fast!
They sell other accessories for biking — I got fitted for a helmet and bought mine here. They have lights and water bottles, baskets, reflectors, etc.
I like this place better than the «hipster» bike shop on Mass Ave because it appeals and is useful to everyone. Their prices are slightly better as well.

I come here for bike supplies and repairs, and have never been disappointed.
Very friendly staff, very informative also! Their experience shows in everything they do.
Pricing is fair and service is great. No other place I’d go in Indianapolis for what I come here for.

Ok, so call me predictable… Josh at the front desk playfully gives me grief if I’m late for my mid-​afternoon run, but always has words of encouragement.
Super convenient to my downtown office. Über classy locker rooms and OMG, I can safely leave my beloved bike in daycare (on the rare occasion I can talk myself into riding to work).
Jon hit it on the (Q-​Tip) head — they have the little amenities you never knew you needed until they were offered. Clothes steamer, Q-​tips, towels (I never appreciated having them in the locker room until that one day I had to walk aaaallll the way back to the front desk at the other Ys) and even golf pencils in the locker room. Not sure about the pencils, but perhaps I’ll need them one day.
The best part is that my Baxter Y membership gets me in the door to this fabulously reclaimed space.
See you tomorrow… same time, same treadmill. These miles aren’t going to run themselves, you know.

I am a sucker for people, places, and things that support cycling. Among other roles, this is the home base in which the Mayor’s rides depart from. It’s part of a nice collection of venues, including the YMCA and the Market. Indoor cycling parking, BGI bike shop all make this a top notch place for all things cycling.

I can come here and workout and ride my bike and park it here?! Say what!!!
Yup I stand correct. I can come to work out, take a class, and feel great and sweaty afterward. Or I can use the bike parking facilities so I don’t have to pay for car parking. win. double win.

The Indy Bike Hub is a great location to transition your commute downtown if your vehicle happens to «run on fat». The have lockable bike storage, ample lockers, and clean showers (even steamers for your suits). As a gym it’s good but not grandiose given the space (the do have two class studios, a free + machine weight floor, and a main cardio floor). There are a few times during the day when it is more busy (after work) but for the most part it fills its demand perfectly. It is my #1 preferred YMCA.

There are probably 1,001 reasons I should jump off my fainting couch and get to the gym — the obvious being health, stress relief, I’m already paying for a membership and again, health. Unfortunately, here I sit on said «fainting couch» composing a Unilocal review about my lack of motivation. I am one of those souls who damn near requires a partner-​in-​crime to get my ass to the gym. To top it off, I prefer to stick to equipment that will not show any action on my behind or my lack of ability to keep up with the next guy. (Eliptical: I’m going forward… oh, wait, now I’m going backward…) These childish fears (and more like excuses) often keep me from going to the gym as often as I should.
But! When you do find me sporting a tie-​dye shirt and pajama bottoms — it will be at one of the excellent YMCA facilities around the city. I especially like the Bike Hub location for the following reasons:
–smells new. Go ahead, judge. You know you like news things sometimes for the sake of being… well, new.
–digital weightlifting equipment. For my serious iron pumping…
–class schedule (wish it was a little more friendly for evening folks)
–high AC — not nearly as stuffy as the Athenaeum location
–space with yoga mats, weights and free range to do whatever stretching/​lifting/​sculpting strikes your fancy
–lastly, it’s connected to the Indianapolis City Market — I mean, how cool is that? What better partnership than the YMCA and several healthy food businesses. It’s almost as if I’m pedaling to a bowl of My Dad’s Sweet Corn soup from Circle City Soups on the stationary…

I get a lot of usage out of this place. I commute by bike to work everyday and store my bike here. I feel a lot better knowing my bike is locked up indoors where it isn’t accessible to just anyone who walks by.
On top of that this Y has a lot of benefits. It’s small but they have a good variety of cardio equipment on the first floor. On the 2^nd floor they have a circuit of weight machines and a small area of free weights. Sure they don’t have as much equipment as the other locations, but they have what you need unless you’re going for Mr. Universe.
The locker room is really amazing. There are tons of lockers, some you can rent by the month, but even more that you can use for the day if you bring your own lock. The locker room is always very clean, and there are always plenty of towels. On top of that if you’re commuting and you have to wear dress shirts or the like there is a clothes steamer in the locker room to get out your wrinkles.
The staff has always been really friendly as well. They seem to be in a good mood all the time, even in the morning and you know they arrived at 5:30, which is much more than I could ever do.

I took the plunge and finally joined the Y this past winter. Even though the membership costs a bit more for me than many other gyms, since I’m not eligible for any price-​reductions, I decided that I was ready to start biking back to work again and since I’m no longer employed at a place that happens to have a locker room and bike storage on site, the Bike Hub was perfect for me.
I’ve been a member for five to six months now and I love the place. The staff is super friendly.
The bike racks are easy to use and, thanks to the sliding doors at the front and swing door inside, it’s easy to get your bike into the building to the bike storage area. With BGI in-​house, you can arrange to have your bike looked out, get needed gear, or take classes on repairing your bike. I plan to sign up for one soon since I am desperately in need for repair lessons.
There’s a steamer in the locker room so I can show up at work with wrinkle-​free clothes. The showers and locker rooms are extremely clean. It’s easy to get in and be off to work quickly. Sometimes I even stop through City Market on my way to work to grab a breakfast sandwich, coffee or crêpe. [Someday it would be awesome if the Y had its own coffee machine. I would totally pay them for a cup to get my caffeine a little quicker.]
When I’m not biking in, I used the place as my gym as well. There’s a good number of machines with televisions, which has been great for when I need to work late and want to run over to get in a workout as a break before heading back to work for a couple more hours. I haven’t yet taken advantage of their really cool coupon deal that would let me get lunch for 10% off in City Market, but that’s a mistake on my part.

You’ve probably never looked so close at me to know how much I need to value Q Tips. I have more wax than Luna. At hotels, I bring up Q Tips before thread count. Then, boom… This gym has a basket of Q Tips!
Before anything else though… I value one thing of a gym more than anything else — a sauna. I’d pay a membership for a place if it only had a sauna. Alas… this Y does have a sauna (there’s one up the street though), but it has everything else. This is a gem of an addition to The City Market & downtown.
I really am with Rob E on hating gyms my whole life — for the same reasons as him. This gym though feels different — it’s more than likely the community aspect as it’s downtown and attached to The City Market. I always feel a bit tense in gyms, here I do not. Hence, the first time I ever sat on a rowing machine and rowed. Consider that an example of how open this place is.
The locker room is clean, new and spacious. The treadmills are updated with the Nike+ iphone integration.
So I don’t have a bike (booooooooooo). I need a bike. I want a bike. So I’m just going to start hanging out at places that call for a bike — like this gym that has a bike shop attached and has bike lockers.
What does it have though? Q Tips. Lots and lots of Q Tips.

I’ve struggled with fitness clubs all my life. From middle school and beyond, I’ve hated gyms for various reasons, whether it was because I was not as built as the meatheads in the weight room, or slower than everyone else on the treadmills, or because it smelled like… well, we all know what gyms smell like. The biggest drawback? Having to drive there and back.
Enter the Indy Bike Hub YMCA. It’s conveniently located in the east wing of City Market within walking distance of all of downtown. That means it’s really accessible during the lunch hour, and it’s usually not terribly busy either. Not only do you never have to wait on equipment, you have your choice from several.
For cardio, they offer multiple types of stationary cycles, a couple different treadmills and a bank of ellipicals. They’re all brand new, and some of the treadmills and all of the ellipticals have built in TVs and iPod cables, so you can watch from among about 20 channels or plug in your iPod to charge it while working out. The equipment is all great, and it’s all clean and easy to use. The second floor has weight machines and free weights that again are all new and really nice. The third floor has two classrooms and an open area with fitness balls. I take advantage of the free Yoga classes on Wednesdays as often as possible. They also offer all kinds of other free classes for members — Zumba, Pilates, circuit, etc. — and the classes happen early morning, mid-​day and after work.
Then we have the crowning feature of this place: the locker rooms. I know, it seems minor. But the guy who works there every day cleaning is meticulous. He wipes down every surface of the lockers, showers, sinks, etc. He vacuums and mops throughout the day. He cleans all the equipment constantly. He’s the OCD neat freak we all wish our significant other was (or wish that we could hire). And it’s evident. It never smells like a locker room; it smells like freshness and clean. That all makes showering in a place like that a-​ok and it makes you feel that you’re getting your membership money’s worth. Seriously. There’s a reason Cardinal and Lifestyle aren’t doing well.
There’s no better work out solution for downtown workers, period. I’ve seen the other gyms. Plus your Y membership is good anywhere. Check it out. You’ll thank me later.
