They do have hard to find books here. But the service lacks incredibly! I have called looking for a book and heard them put the phone down and laugh and pick it right back up and say«sorry were sold out». I know they didn’t even check… Plus they’re usually rude. It’s a last resort store for me for sure!

Against all odds, this mom-and-pop book store has hung in there for at least five years, making it far more than the flash-in-the-pan that I think many of us expected it to be… given that Southern Plaza simply isn’t the likeliest real estate for a non-chain bookstore to succeed. But Books on Sale is far enough from the mobs that throng Half Price Books in Greenwood that it can probably assert itself on its own. Sure, Books on Sale isn’t much too look at, but it’s also a lot less choosy than Half Price Books about the books it will buy from us local schlebobians, which means you can find any old weird thing on God’s green earth – which is exactly the way a used bookstore should be, IMO. And yes, it’s still got the whiff of bohemia that Half Price Books has always enjoyed(even though HPB is a fully corporatized national chain). But hey – I guess in this day and age the very act of reading a book is countercultural. So sad, but at least that means a few places like Half Price Books survive.

While they didnt have the computer code books I was looking for(very specific, odd request) the staff showed me where they would be, and were happy to offer further Assistance. Yes, make fun of me, I’m looking for print form of a coding language book. Again, odd request, but the staff was more than happy to see what they could do. And they were pleasant and competent, which is growingly a more difficult request.

A local independent bookstore! Yippee! This place is huge. But because it’s tucked into the corner of the shopping center, and the way the front is designed, it looks a lot smaller. Plus, it goes farther back than you think. The interior photo I took doesn’t even show the back room. You could spend days browsing here.(Sorry for the fuzzy cell-phone pics.) Their new books are 25% off cover price, and used books are at least 50% off cover price. According to their web site, they have bargain days on used books: Mondays: 40% off children’s books. Tuesdays: 25% off hardbacks. Wednesdays: 50% off for those 55 and older. 30% off for teachers/educators with ID. 25% off if you buy 5 or more books at a time. Those discounts are for used books only. But they also sell new books, not just used. They say they have over 100,000 books in stock. I didn’t count ‘em, but with such a big store, I don’t doubt it. Hours: Monday-Thursday 9AM to 9PM, Friday and Saturday 9AM to 10PM, Sunday Noon to 6PM Browse their inventory at: Their Facebook page: They’re on the south side, convenient to I-465, just off the East street exit, just a block and a half north of the Interstate.
