Simple: This is a classy, old-fashioned place to get a cocktail. Go.

Over St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, came HIGHLY Recommended. We had the best time here. The bar is a dark, wood-paneled area with great furniture. We were told to order the Shrimp Cocktail, which was extremely good. Then we got the«Grilled Bacon» Root beer maple glazed bacon block, locally sourced from Smoking Goose. The service was fantastic, and a great place to visit.

The bar version of St. Elmo’s with some of the key menu items and their famous cocktails. It was fun to try it once since we had never been but I’m not dying to go back. We only had cocktails. The Gimlett was refreshing and the Old Fashioned was strong. Good for a drink if you’re in the area or if you don’t want to wait for a table at St. Elmo’s but want to try the shrimp cocktail.

This place is amazing. They serve the same drinks and a shortened St. Elmo’s food menu. The filet sliders with Mac and cheese are AMAZING! The service is typically pretty good and the drinks are also very good. My family has made this a place we now go once a year as a lovely treat and it’s always something I look forward to. This is a must try in Indy!

Had the best time, great wait staff and bartenders. The waitresses are beautiful, friendly and great to talk to. The atmosphere is very relaxing after a long work day. The food is fantastic especially the shrimp cocktail. Anyone going there for the first time try the shrimp cocktail, but be warned the horse radish is hot and fresh. Relax and enjoy.

Celebrated a birthday here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We loved the approachable speakeasy vibe and the fact that we were able to walk in with no wait on a Saturday evening. I loved the dark wood and cozy lighting. My date ordered a Manhattan made with the Maker’s Mark infusion which was very tasty. We also tried three different dishes which were all hits: the famed shrimp cocktail, spinach dip, and the crab mac and cheese. The spinach dip arrived with plenty of chips as well as salsa and sour cream, perfect for sharing. Several gluten free options are available. Although this is more budget friendly than the steakhouse downstairs, it is still on the spendy side so be prepared to drop a little cash if you’re getting drinks as well as food. However, the overall experience was worth every cent. It’s a great place to feel like you’re «getting away from it all» downtown, and I always dig an excuse to get dressed up a bit(not that you need to, there were several Pacers fans wearing their jerseys while enjoying a drink!) I’ll definitely be back!

When you want a taste of St. Elmos, but paycheck Friday is a week away, this place is a great alternative. Do yourself a favor and get the filet sliders with mac and cheese and pair it with Elmo Cola(An ice cold glass bottle of Coke poured over Maker’s Mark, imported Italian Luxardo Maraschino cherries and Madagascar Vanilla Beans.) The Elmo Cola is around the same price as the sliders, but it is worth it. The area itself is small, dark and intimate., waitresses in red dresses move about the restaurant making sure everyone is happy and that the drinks keep flowing. Definitely a nice«hidden» gem in downtown Indy.

I love the atmosphere at 1933 lounge. Service is great and they are attentive. Great spot to go after work, dinner or for any type of event.

OK, where did this place come from? I have lived in Indianapolis off and on my entire life. I have never seen this place! What a nice place to be and enjoy a great cocktail! The pours are generous, unfortunately the price tag mimics the pour, ha! The atmosphere is warm, perhaps a little stuffy, but you would expect that being above St. Elmo’s. The live music last night was nice, and just loud enough that you could hear it without your conversation being drowned out. As I said, I’m not sure how I missed this place as often as I am downtown, but I am sure to return again.

Not bad, not bad… Aside from the initial slow service, I tried their signature Elmo Cola which was your choice of a glass-bottled coke or Diet coke with infused Maker’s Mark, Maraschino cherries and Madagascar Vanilla Beans. Served with their famous drunken cherries. Really tasty! Think of like a more complex Vanilla Coke! I enjoyed it! The glass bottle of Coke is s nice touch too. Sitting at the bar, we were tempted to order food as we saw orders and orders of their cocktail shrimp going out. Those shrimp were huge! But I noticed that the shrimp wasn’t cleanly deveined so I didn’t wanna take a chance. Anyways, nice ambiance of classy old cocktail lounge with low lighting. Definitely worth a stop to grab a round! ‘Til next time, cheers!

Word cannot describe… heavenly. The old-school, prohibition era vibe, dim lights and classy décor were right up my alley. I settled in to a cushy high-backed chair nestled in a cozy conversation pit area with lots of table space for drinks and food. So posh. Dim lighting, big gold mirrors and nostalgic photography added to the ambiance. We ordered the bacon appetizer to start and it blew me away. Thickly sliced, drenched in a sweet glaze, it melted in my mouth. Next, we indulged with the crab macaroni and cheese, it was decadent and rich… and somehow exceeded my expectations. Enough for two and then some. Wow. Champagne was my drink of choice and it only elevated my mood and the glamour. The waitresses are all young, gorgeous and dressed in chic red outfits and heels. Sexy, but subtle. Great touch. We shared a sliced New York Strip with cheese crisps, medium rare. It may have been on the appetizer menu. Cooked perfectly, the steak was enough for us and hit the spot. Tremendous. Our bill was quite reasonable for the quality of food, service and the overall experience. I cannot say enough good things about 1933 Lounge, and I’m excited to return!

One of my must stops when downtown in Indy for business. Great ambiance. Good for clients, business associates, friends or significant others. Drink menu is solid. Fairly intimate setting, but I have had a group of twelve join me for drinks and a lot of appetizers. They have absinthe which can be hard to find. Steak and filet sliders are excellent. Good set of appetizers. At least check it out before dinner downstairs

The 1933 lounge could be a five star in my book. The framework is there, but there are a few quirks. First off the pricing of the bar food menu is a little out of whack. A two ounce petite filet mignon will set you back about $ 25, but six oysters served Rockerfeller style is only $ 14. By the way the oysters are just ok. I’m always skeptical when they don’t advertise where the oysters were harvested from. Second is the pricing of the drink menu. I’ve never been impressed with any of the cocktails and some of them are over $ 13. The St. Elmo cola… Just too too sweet for me. Maybe it’s the Maker’s, or whatever is in their secret ‘infusion’ but it’s just not this bourbon lover’s style. A friend’s mule was mostly lime juice once. I guess it will depend on the tender of the cocktails that night, but for $ 13 I expect delicious 100% of the time. Ambiance is a big, gigantic five stars. I like taking people there, because the seats next to the fireplace are primo. Also… beware of the revenge of the meatball slider!!! That thing is spiiiiiiiicy(which I can take). Even our server admitted to it as causing heartburn. But it is delicious! As are the the filet sliders($ 5). Also, some of the wait staff… a little more like Hooter’s than classy bar. So depending on your orientation… This may be a bonus for you!

Upstairs from the venerable St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, 1933 Lounge has the same masculine infused ambiance as the restaurant. Dark, red, with mahogany accents, 1933 is expensive and classy. Drinks are strong, glassware heavy, and bartenders old school. It may not fit the nouveau trend of hipster mixology, but the 1933 Lounge will become as iconic as St. Elmo.

I love this place! It’s decorated like an old prohibition-era speakeasy and there are plenty of places to sit. You absolutely must order the pork belly. It’s perfectly crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside. The sauce it comes with is so good I drank the rest after the meat was gone!

Whenever visitors come to visit or I am in the mood for a fancy night out without paying the premium dining price, I head up to the second floor or St. Elmos to the 1933 Lounge. It is a stunning space: enter Great Gatsby era. It can be crowded during peak hours, but never have I not been able to find an open table. This is my favorite«secret» of the city: for $ 13.95 you can chow down on 2 juicy, tender filet sliders and a hot sizzling pot of smoked mac n cheese(that is to die for). Their cocktail sauce is legendary: you can’t pass up ordering their shrimp cocktail. They also have a full bar: try their classic Signature Elmo Cola: a glass-bottled coke or Diet coke with Maker’s Mark, imported italian Luxardo maraschino cherries and vanilla beans. Their drunken cherries top off this delicous drink.

I love a good speakeasy, and 1933 Lounge was the first Unilocal result when I did my research during a weekend trip to Indianapolis. Upon our arrival, I was thrilled to see that it was the upstairs of St. Elmo’s — a famous steakhouse that I was told I MUST check out. Unfortunately, since it was a very busy weekend in the city, St. Elmo’s was not accepting walk-in diners. But luckily for us, the 1933 Lounge was. The doorman directed us upstairs, where we easily found two seats at the bar. I was very pleased to see that they keep this place below/at capacity, so at no time was it ever crowded or overly loud. It’s very dimly lit, so even during a mid-afternoon beverage date, it still felt fancy and intimate. My boyfriend loves Moscow Mules, so the bartender whipped one of the St. Elmo’s versions up for him, and I settled on an Elmo’s Cola. Both were delicious and well worth the price in terms of quality and taste. We also decided to attempt the infamous shrimp cocktail — a 6 piece order for right around $ 20. If you’re looking to clear up your sinuses, you really need to try this stuff. Holy. Crap. The bartender warned us that it was pretty potent and that we should ease our way into the dish. He wasn’t wrong. By the end of my second piece, I learned to scrape some of the cocktail sauce off of the shrimp before eating it. It was everything I expected and by far the best shrimp cocktail I’ve had, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Horseradish is one of my favorite condiments, and there is absolutely no shortage of it in their sauce. I was thinking about it on the drive home back to Pittsburgh yesterday and I know that the 1933 Lounge/St. Elmo’s will be a must-go next time I’m in town! Reservations highly recommended!

Don’t want to wait 2 hours for legendary shrimp cocktail? Head upstairs to the 1933 Lounge atop St. Elmo’s where you can relax in a prohibition era bar, get custom cocktails and snack on St. Elmo’s favorites fro the shrimp cocktail to even a steak. Priced the same but without all the hassle. They have great live music on the weekends too. Seating is limited and open so sometimes you’ll have to stalk a table to get a spot. Definitely a place worth checking out. 21+ Check out the awesome bar and décor. I will say that during Devour Downtown, St. Elmos and 1933 seem to go a bit light on their cocktail sauce. Many other dinner guests mentioned that they didn’t feel the heat as is traditional. the only down side was they were so busy and only had one person working the floor. She was doing her best and was great but completely forgot to put in our food order.

Fun little lounge above the famous St. Elmo’s steakhouse. I believe the waitress said it had been there since either late 2011 or early 2012. This is the place to go for a before– or after-dinner drink if you want some character to go along with your alcohol. We came after dinner for a birthday dessert for my boss and weren’t disappointed with the blueberry bread pudding. The drinks were pretty standard, probably more pricey than they would be elsewhere down the street. If you’re with a guy who is easily persuaded by pretty women, make sure they put their wallets away here. The waitresses are gorgeous and definitely flirt and play the part, to their benefit when the final bill comes I’m sure. Worth a try to check it out for the prohibition-era ambiance and maybe that bread pudding too!
