Specialties

Meals, activities, transportation and other services for residents of Tangipahoa Parish, age 60 and older to help them remain independent and in their own homes as long as possible. No fees are charged; however, donations are accepted for services and there are generally waiting lists for some services such as home delivered meals and housekeeping.

History

Established in 1983.

Established by the Older Americans Act of 1965 and re-​organized in 1983. A United Way participating agency.

Manager

Lanell Blackwell is the Area Supervisor for the Independence Senior Center operated by the Tangipahoa Voluntary Council on Aging. The Center provides hot, well-​balanced meals, transportation, home delivered meals, light housekeeping, information and assistance to residents of the Independence area Monday through Friday.
