CCFA Northeast Ohio is many things to many people. We are a trusted educator, a fervent supporter of cutting edge research, and a passionate advocate. Every day we help people get the health tools, support, and information that they need.

More than 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. These chronic inflammatory digestive diseases cause severe pain, prolonged hospitalization, and are potentially life-threatening. Here in Northeastern Ohio, approximately 30,000 people are diagnosed. But a much larger community surrounding these patients is also involved — caregivers, parents, spouses, siblings, and caring friends.

Our Mission: To cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.

The Northeast Ohio Chapter of CCFA provides support and education programs for people in the greater Cleveland area currently suffering from IBD, and funds local research to find

History

Established in 1967.

In 1967, our founders formed a national voluntary health organization known today as the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation (CCFA). At that time almost no research was being conducted to find a cause or a cure, and very little work on improving medical treatments for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis was being done. A foundation was built dedicated to research, education, and support for those who suffer from Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Within a year, CCFA funded its first research grant and began to open chapters around the country, including three in the state of Ohio.
