Imperial Beach Pet Hospital

This place took my cat in as a new patient on the same day I called which is awesome. The $ 30 Unilocal deal I used was 100% worth it because at a $ 55 value it almost covered the cost of the visit. I did have to pay more for visit and then for meds as is normal for vets. I turned down a lot of what the doc recommended (ex: food they sell there at office which she wrote as part of prescription). The staff is nice. Dr. Osborn was the vet on duty that day. She was good with my cat. I don’t really have any complaints. We were there for a few hours though which seemed pretty long for a checkup without blood or lab work. Although it didn’t appear to be busy it might have been because of same day appointment, not sure.

If I could rate this place with «0 stars» I absolutely would. I made an appointment for my dog to receive grooming services and a check up as well, since I was bringing her in for grooming anyway. The gal on the phone scheduled us for 8:00 am. The day before the scheduled appointment, I received a confirmation call for my 8:30 appt. I was just a little confused by the time discrepancy so we showed up at 8:00 and were told that the doctor wasn’t in until 8:30. So, we waited. After we saw the vet, we went to the front counter to drop her off for grooming. After a few awkward moments I mentioned that she had a grooming appt. the receptionist gave me a business card from a local groomer… I explained that we made an appointment for her to be groomed there. She proceeded to give me some long drawn out story about why they DO NOT HAVE A GROOMER!!! Seriously! The ONLY reason we chose this place was because, according to the website, this is a FULL SERVICE facility. It is definitely not and the employees are incredibly unprofessional and a bit ditsy. What a waste of a morning! And our poor dog hates the car… Shame on you for FALSELY ADVERTISING this facility as Full Service when it is in no way such a facility.

I am so happy I found this place. It may not look like much but the people here are awesome. Maureen at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. Dr McCoy is a great doctor, did a thorough exam and was really interesting to talk to. The doc suggested some blood work because my dog is a senior now (totally normal and routine). But he made sure not to pressure me, In fact he asked if I wanted to take an estimate home so I could discuss it with my spouse first. The whole staff was cool with me waiting which was a nice change from the other veterinarian place I had gone to. Plus their vaccines are good for 3 years! Their prices are extremely affordable (especially compared to others locally). I am so happy to have tried this place out. I’m looking forward to future visits.

Dr. McCoy’s return is tragic. if you have to go here, see Dr. Osborne only.

My little kitty had to have some teeth taken out and so I was sent here by the cat rescue to get the procedure done.
I will say straight away that the vet might not be seemingly very friendly but she is pretty darn good. I deal with a lot of Dr’s so I am used to their different styles. She is not a people person, she is an animal person. She is also into the surgical side of her work and not so much the clinical side. This is actually pretty common and I know this bothers a lot of people but it really shouldn’t. You don’t need a vet to be your best friend, you need a vet to help your animal get the best possible outcome available.
The staff are pretty good aside from one man I had to speak with about the after care for my animal. He treated me like he had just helped me up after I had fallen head first off of a turnip truck. I may have asked basic questions but I wanted to make sure I got it right, and it’s not like it isn’t his job to prep owners so that they are giving the best aftercare.
Anyway, as he was talking to me in a super condescending manner… I silently wondered if he thought the bleach I use on my hair had breached the blood brain barrier and had left me with nothing but air in my head. I dunno… dude was seriously a div.
What matters? The outcome. That is what matters and they were able to save a lot of my kitties teeth. She has nice pink healthy gums now, and I believe they did a great job on her.

Absolutely love this place. I’ve taken all three of my dogs here and they treat the babies with so much love that our dogs don’t mind going with the nurses even though they don’t have a treat in their hand! We’ve been to other places in the area but we have never gotten the help, the kindness and the love that we got from IB Pet Hospital. They’re understanding and I think that’s the best part, they know what you’re going through and they a sympathetic to your needs.

its been a week since we tried to get our dog in to be seen at imperial beach pet hospital for a cracked ankle bone and we went to a different dr. and they gave the dog some pain killers and last night the dog had a 6 minute long sezuire that caused his legs to stiffen up, caused him to vomit and pee and bodyjerks… now we are looking for a place to have him put down… cant help but feel like the doctors at imperial beach pet hospital could have saved him if they had been corectly staffed and had taken him in and given him an exam… but they turned us away… now we get to dig a hole to put our dog in ! thanks for nothing imperial beach pet hospital!!#! the hurt we are feeling is blamed on you and your uncareing staff… your supposed to help pets not ignore them… amazon animal hospital is completely staffed… i highly recommend all of the i.b.p h clients check out amazon animal hospital… they wont turn you away when you need THEM the most. like IMPERIAL BEACH PET HOSPITAL DID TO US…

Dr. Osborne has been my pets’ vet for several years. Recently, I went to her twice in one day — once in the morning and once in the afternoon with two different pets. Dr. Osborne failed to recognize me or my husband. Rather than ask us why we were there, she started giving the EXACT same speech she gave us in the morning. The tech that came in with her looked embarassed. I had to pointedly ask her clarification questions when she stopped to take a breath (which wasn’t often). Furthermore, she appears to believe EVERY animal has a food allergy and needs a special diet. If she turns out to be the best vet in town, I will put up with this for my pets’ sake but I’ll be asking around for other recommendations.

I have been a long time client, but have been thinking it may be time to change. I finally, after all these years, had to tell Maureen that I cannot deal with Dr. Osborn, she talks and I have no idea what she’s talking about. Having a bad experience with Baltazar, I called in the morning left two messages to let them know I needed to put my pet down. I called a third time and he answered. I told him my situation and he said well we are all booked. I won’t go on but when I arrived, yes they took me in and I didn’t wait long, but Baltazar didn’t seem to compassionate. Even my son said the same thing. When you are dealing with pets and how much people love their animals, I feel you need more compassion, especially when they are having to be put down. I feel I have better service with Dr. Mc Coy in all honesty. I was a wreck. Now Dr. Osborn gave us both a hug at the end of our sad visit.

Dr. Osborn and Dr. McCoy has been with my fur family for 15 years! I’ve grown up with dogs all my life and there’s nowhere else I would go when I need a vet for my pets. I moved to north park 3 years ago and still remained devoted! When you have a doctor that you know you can trust with your fur kids, there is no need to go some place else. I’ve recently moved back to imperial beach and I have a new puppy to add to my family…
Just a few days ago I brought her in for her first wellness check with dr Osborn. She took her time with me and set out a future plan to keep my girl healthy! After lab results came back, dr Osborn personally called me to let me know that she had a minor and common parasite found in young puppies. Her medication was waiting for me but I was unable to pick it up due to my work schedule. And since it was a holiday weekend, I wouldn’t be able to pick it up until Tuesday. I thought it wasn’t a big deal. It surely wasn’t life threatening… However; hours later, Maureen the receptionist called me and offered to drop off my puppy’s medication (at my house) after she left work. Of course I’d pay them first thing Tuesday morning, but the thing that really makes me happy is that the staff cares so much about my puppy’s health that they offered to bring it to me since I couldn’t get it myself. I am grateful to the staff at imperial beach pet hospital. Everyone has always been so kind and flexible especially with my family and all of our pets we’ve all separately owned over the years. They are genuinely concerned about the wellness of your animals. I really couldn’t recommend any other place to take your pets. They’re the best.

UPDTAE:

I brought my boy back today for his follow up and bandage change… The English lady up front was alot more pleasant today and Baltazar, one of the long time techs received him and actually told me I could come back for him… Free doggie sitting? Ummm YES… I’ll take it!!!
It was great to be able to go run a few errands instead of sitting around waiting although there is a TV and great AC in the waiting room… I got a call from Dr. Osborne some time after with an update… and as soon as they were done I got a call from the tech letting me know I could come back and pick up my baby whenever I was ready…
One Ice Cream cone later I was back at the pet hospital… The receptionist was really nice and the vet tech came up to go over some things with me when I got an upsetting text… A rescue dog I had placed some years ago wasn’t doing to well… I had to take the call in the middle of checking out… No biggie… They totally understood and after ending the call both the receptionist and the tech offered me some great advice that I was able to pass on which aided in the decision not to put the dog down today…
The receptionist not only checked me out but shared a personal story with me about her cat… and even gave us a small senior discount and she didn’t stop there… She went back and adjusted our previous visit to reflect the discount thus providing a small credit on my account… Quite impressive considering my experience with her the other day… She really went above and beyond today… If they weren’t so expensive today would have definitely been a 5 Star experience!
It’s awesome that the receptionist and I were able to put our personal issues aside and make nice over our mutual love for the animals because at the end of the day the animals and their welfare are the only thing that really matter to me…

Two years ago I noticed a lump on my dogs chest. Last year it started growing and soon became the size of a golf ball. During this time I had pet insurance through Banfield. They told me it would be close to 800 to get it removed and then another 100 or so to biopsy it. I called several othe places and each gave me different rates all around the same price and more! My parents came across kim Osborne and her staff two weeks ago and I can not begin to tell everyone how pleased I am with my dogs care and overall treatment. Not only did they get my dog Mr. Butterz in a week after his first visit they also gave my parents the best price ever. Not only was it about half the price of what other places wanted they also included a deep cleaning for his teeth. My moms a talker so when she tells me she cant even begin to tell me how pleased she was with the care they recived I knew then that this is the place we will be going to for both my pets here on out! Thank you so much Dr Osborne for taking care of my dog Mr. Butterz!

Dr. Osbourne is wonderful! She is very caring and takes her time with our pets. I recently lost my Chihuahua and Dr. Osbourne sent me a very sweet sentimental gift to remind me of Barbie. I won’t take my pets anywhere else!

Everyone here makes you feel like family. They are so caring with my dogs and even me. Doctor Osborne and doctor McCoy have the biggest hearts for all animals and they try their hardest to help figure out what is wrong with your beloved pets without breaking the bank. I am so thankful for this pet hospital and everyone that works here.

New to the area. New customer of theirs. First experience with new puppy was extremely positive. I was impressed with the vet and all her staff.

Great vet. They took their time evaluating my precious dog and came up with an affordable treatment plan. I did not feel rushed at all. The staff was friendly, kind and patient with my 2 small children. They have toys in the waiting room and gave each of my kids a beanie baby to keep. They also offered us a military discount.

Dr. McCoy and the staff (tanisha and Rachel) are the best!

I’ve used this pet hospital a few times and based on my last experience I can give this place 3-​stars.
My dog was having a problem with his left eye, it was watery and smaller than his right so I took him there.
Now I didn’t have a problem with the vet, but with the vet tech (tall man). I told him he was adopted and abused before, pretty much I was telling him, «Hey dude, pet my dog first and call him by his name, so he’s a little more comfortable with you.» He doesn’t and proceeds to stick a thermometer up my dogs ass. NICE TO MEET YOU TOO! So what does my dog do?
He expressed his anal glands, which I didn’t know happened when a dog was scared till I googled it. Mind you he’s a big chow chow like dog. So fish poo to you vet tech!

This is the LAST place I would take my pet EVER! I would give is 0 stars if I could.
I took my dog here for an emergency visit when he was choking on a bone. Dr. Osborne was very abrupt and rude to me, even though she could see how emotional I was. She took 5 minutes of precious time to tell me my dog had TARTAR ON HIS TEETH while he was struggling for breath. She charged me to take an X-​Ray then charged me a SECOND TIME when her techs screwed up the 1^st one. Also, when her tech took a blood sample she messed up the 1^st time and squirted my dogs blood all over the exam area.
BEWARE OF THIS BAD VET IN AN EMERGENCY!!! Instead go to Animal Medical Center in El Cajon, they saved my dog’s life!
