Hey, have you guys ever seen the movie«Children of the Corn?» Well, if you haven’t, there’s this café in the beginning that all the town’s kids go nuts in and start killing off the townsfolk. After walking into Fire and Ice, I felt as though I had just walked into that same café… …only the kids had already been there. Seriously, this place is not even TRYING to look presentable. There’s a ramshackle kitchen behind an ice cream counter with some greasy food at the ready and over-priced ice cream cones on hand. Seating, while plentiful, seems rather superfluous, because I cannot imagine that the small town of Ilwaco even has enough people to fill the seats, let alone the few people who might actually wander into this place on accident.(as my traveling companions and I did…) To add to the«allure» all sorts of toss-aways and castoffs are just sort of stuffed along a second-floor area that would actually be kind of awesome if they would clean it up and use it for actual«balcony» seating. Instead, it has the look of a closed-down theater without any of the architecture to make it interesting. I suppose it would be fair to mention the little junk shop kept off to the side, but… nah, it’s not even neat trinkets — just the contents of some kid’s toychest of knock-offs and cheap schtuffs. There are WAY better places to get your snack on; I recommend heading back over the bridge to Astoria. Ilwaco, sadly, seems like it’s on its way out, but since no effort seems to be going into keeping things stable, I’m loathe to offer my business, which seemed barely tolerated in the first place. Such an awesome name for an ice cream and coffee shop, wasted.
