Dr. Holmes graduated Suma Cum Laude from Marshall University in 1993 with his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and minors in Chemistry and English. In 1997, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from West Virginia University, finishing at the top of his class. He went on to earn his Master of Dental Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000.

In order to stay up-​to-​date on the latest advancements in the field of orthodontics, Dr. Holmes maintains active membership in numerous prestigious professional organizations such as the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Southern Association of Orthodontics, and the Kanawha Valley Dental Society.
