History

Established in 2004.

In 1901 Lowe Mill started as a textile mill until the depression hit in 1932. It was then converted into a shoe factory in 1945 until 1978, but when the building fell into the hands of Jim Hudson, he saw more than met the eye. He saw the potential for the building to grow and expand to become a vital part of the creative community in Huntsville. When the opportunity came up for The Flying Monkey to become the first official tenants on the second floor of the mill, everything fell properly into place to launch this creative community. The Flying Monkey signed their lease in 2004. Determination took over, changing the building from a rundown historic building to a modern, functional art facility in just a few short years. In 2006 Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment was founded, formalizing Jim Hudson’s vision of having Lowe Mill transformed into an official building wide arts center. Renovations allowed the first and third floors opening up in 2009-10 and it has been growing ever since.
