Buddy’s All American Bar-B-Que

The best wings and ribs in the tri-​state. Friendly staff, off street parking, and the décor is ok. I definitely recommend this place to anyone that loves bbq. The wings are way better than buffalo wild wings.

Food was good for the most part. I had pulled pork, which was really good and tender. My wife had brisket — a little on the dry side. Side portions weren’t necessarily generous though.
We joked that John Taffer of Spike TV «Bar Rescue» would go nuts though. Tables weren’t clean; our waitress — though nice — seemed a bit clueless as to drinks and the menu; the waitstaff spent more time hanging out at the bar, yammering with a drunk customer (apparently a friend or regular) who kept getting loud and swearing. One waitress kept digging her Daisy Dukes out of her crotch. It’s almost like Buddy’s couldn’t decide if it was a BBQ joint, a sports bar, or The Legion.
Draught beer selection was slim. If you’re not a Bud or Bud Light fan, your choices are extremely limited.
It’s an okay place. Doubt we’ll be back though.

I visited for dinner last night. I had the pulled pork and pulled chicken. The pork was good. A bit chewy. The chicken was Dry. Hush puppies were crunchy on the outside but not cooked on the inside. Garlic toast very buttery or greasy depending on how you like it. I didn’t finish it. The bbq sauces offered were sweet or spicy and spicy did have a kick. I mixed the two. They do have outdoor seating. They have parking. Be prepared to park on the street and have quarters in picket unless it is after 6pm then you are good to go.

Not bad, not great. Brisket was dry as a bone, hushpuppies were okay, beans were good and the sauces didn’t taste much different from one another. I guess I’ve just been spoiled by top quality, competition grade BBQ elsewhere in the country and those are a tough act to follow. Onion rings were decen’t, too. If you crave BBQ in Barboursville, this might fill the need but it won’t knock you out of your chair.

Had a brisket sandwich and hush puppies and sweet tea. Tried both the regular and spicy sauces. Only the hush puppies stood out with their horseradish sauce. The brisket was flavorless and on the dry side. It barely tasted like beef. Outside the restaurant smells delicious like a smokehouse — where was the flavor in the food? The sweet tea was sweet alright — but barely tasted like tea. Service was good but the food was very disappointing.

I visited Buddy’s twice, both times shortly before moving from Huntington earlier this month. I wish I had gone there sooner.
The pulled pork sandwich is delicious and the mashed potatoes are remarkably tasty. The service was great for both meals I had there, with attentive waitresses and spot-​on accuracy with the orders.
My one complaint is from my first visit where trying to use the $ 5 off coupon with the LoyalTree Rewards app on my phone seemed to baffle the staff. I finally got the discount (and in turn tacked it onto the tip) but both my waitress and her manager seemed confused by it. This wouldn’t have surprised me save for the fact that a promo for it is at the top of the front page of their website. «Download the loyaltree app for $ 5 off your next visit!»
But, that issue aside, Buddy’s a great place for a meal with a relaxed atmosphere. The sweet tea was very good, ditto for the Yuengling draft beer, and I would suggest you would have a tough time going wrong with the beverages available there.

Why have we not heard about this? That’s some great barbecue. Everything was as it should be in a self-​respecting barbecue shop.

Great food! I had the brisket sandwich and it was excellent. I also tried their potato skins with pulled pork. Very yummy. However, the service was really slow. Granted, it appeared she was very busy. I wouldn’t let the single time of less than optimal service dissuade me from returning, however.

Buddy’s is a large BBQ establishment high on manly décor and beer. The seven TV screens keep you up to date with any breaking news in the sporting world and the service is cordial and food is messy. It has good A/​C and a covered outdoor seating area if you want to dine al fresco with your man friends.
At the recommendation of the waitress, I got a regular pulled chicken sandwich with a side of coleslaw and a sweet tea. The menu is pretty big, but really is just iterations of the same stuff in different forms. Unfortch for me, all the veggies are boiled, so alas, there would be no greens for the day.
The sweet tea is huge and very sweet. The coleslaw was good and the pulled chicken okay, improved by the spicy BBQ sauce on the table. The meal was savory, but everything was very soft and squishy. The bun was soft, the chicken was squishy, the coleslaw was shredded very finely. The only items with texture were the tasty butter pickles. I really didn’t need to chew my meal at all, which was rather disconcerting. At least the food is cheap?

The food here is decent, but reminds me too much of Bono’s or a Famous Dave’s. I wish there would be a little more variety in the dishes. Love the service, but the food was alright. What would make this place take off would be a better and different menu than a large nation chain like the two previous places.
I would recommend the BBQ short ribs on the menu when you go.

I was here a few weeks ago to listen to a band. I just had an appetizer & hot fudge sundae (It was delicious). The people there are very friendly! :)

Got a gift card to this restaurant — we wouldn’t have gone otherwise, and we would have missed out. The food was excellent, done to perfection, and the service was good. Wish we would have discovered it sooner; we would have gone more often.

Finding barbecue in West Virginia on a Sunday evening ain’t easy!
After passing by three places somewhat close to I-​64, Buddy’s was a last-​ditch effort to sample barbecue in every state between Pennsylvania and Texas, and they did not disappoint!
The pulled chicken and pork platter was damn good. Pork was fatty, juicy and packed with flavor. The sauce was a sweet and slightly spicy Carolina style. Hush puppies were a bit dry, but the BBQ beans were quite good.
Definitely worth the detour off the interstate!

How did I find this place?
I had the strange craving for some meat on my way from Slade, KY to Fayetteville, WV. After days in the small (nonexistent) town of Slade, I wanted some good old American BBQ, and Buddy’s delivered, actually google map delivered when I searched in the 300-​mile range.
I had my share of BBQ, and maybe Buddy’s can’t compare to some of the places I been to, but it is my go to place if I ever make the same trip.
The wings are very good, especially with the southwest dry-​rub. They have a spicy scale. I tried their hottest sauce: The Bomb, it was hot, but compare to some hot wings I had, it will just break a little sweat from your forehead. They are big, and for $ 10, you can get a order of 10 wings. I ate 6 and was stuffed.
My friend got the combo plate with ribs and brisket. The brisket is fatty (yummmmm), but they could use a bit more seasoning. Ribs are just as good as you can find at a decent BBQ place.
Pull pork sandwich is only $ 6.50. Yummmy!
Now on to the sides:
Hush puppies: a little dry, but hey, I never like them.
Potato salads: very good.
Green beans: they used the really big ones, mushy, but since I like collard greens, I liked it.
Beer, I was very happy to find out they have Bluemoon on tap, served with a chilled beer mug. Hooooorayyyyyy!
Service is good, our waitress was on top of her sh! t.
Then I suffered severe food coma for the rest of my trip.

Ok so this place is really good. Not the best BBQ I’ve had, but towards the top 5. They have really good beef brisket. Beef brisket is hard to find anyways so it’s nice to have a place nearby that not only sells, but does a pretty good job cooking it also. They have good BBQ pork BUT I’m more of a classic Carolina style so I’m looking for a mustard/​vinegar based sauce. Theirs is more the classic BBQ sauce which is good, but not my favorite. Now their pulled chicken is ok — sort of my least favorite dish.
My favorite thing aside from the brisket is the green beans. It’s so hard to find green beans like my family makes them. This place does a great job with them and I can really taste the unhealthy backfat and seasonings! YUM! Price wise, they’re a good deal. I’ve been here 3 times and each time around 20 bucks for consistently good food AND good service.
The wait staff is nice and attentive. They have patio seating that is covered and not covered — which is a huge plus on days where you want to be outside. The parking is good too.

When people come in to visit from out of town, I usually have to take them there. With my dad in town, we had to. The BBQ is probably the second-​best in the Huntington area, but for what it lacks there, it makes up for in atmosphere and feel – not being a chain. So if you want BBQ that’s 95% of the way there and some solid local feel this is a good place to get some food.
What does it lack? There’s only one type of sauce available on the table, the quality varies from pretty good to REALLY good depending on the day, and sometimes the portions seem a little stingy.
They’ve also started doing half-​priced appetizers from 4pm-​close. That was an awesome surprise – and their nachos with brisket make a FINE (almost meal sized) appetizer.

Went here for lunch. The help was friendly, and prices were reasonable. The Bar-​B-​Que, was excellent, and the sides (Potato salad) was tops. A great place for lunch when you have a hankering for bar-​b-​que and good old southern food.

Between good and great bbq depends on the days. The homemade chips with ranch dressing maybe a heart attack on a plate but it is good! The portions are good and will fill you up.
Gotta try the sweeeeeeet tea! Served in old school mason jars. I’ve heard good thinks about the brunswick stew and beef brisket (haven’t had them myself but people I trust order them each time).
I’ve had the ribs several times and I haven’t been blown away by them but the pulled pork and hushpuppies… get’er done!
The location is right down the street from campus and has a home town feel.

Went to Buddy’s for lunch while visiting Marshall Univ for work. Decent BBQ — lots of smoke flavor and good sauce although their «hot» sauce was barely that. Was surprised to see brisket featrued prominately on the menu this far north — usually don’t see good brisket except in Texas!
My co-​worker had the nachos as an entrée– a huge plate smothered in pulled pork and cheese. I didn’t try any but they sure did look good.

This is the best bar b que place in the city, especially if you want something other than the overwhelming taste of smoke in your food. Good variety, appropriate atmosphere, and close to campus. Also has a nice patio if you want to eat outside.
