Lucky Sushi

Randomly stopped by for lunch and got a spicy tuna handroll and the spicy girl roll both were delicious!

Really enjoyed the specialty rolls here, they are delicious and beautifully crafted. My favorite thing, which I’ve never had before, is the avocado ball, which is spicy tuna (with real chunks of tuna you can taste, not just globs of spicy mayo like most places) wrapped in slices of ripe avocado (again, you can tell the experience of the chef here because they’re perfectly ripe, soft, smooth and buttery) and sprinkled with tempura crunch. It’s an incredible combination of flavors and textures that looks as good as it tastes. The chef is a jolly old man who you can tell loves what he does, it was a pleasure eating here. If you’re looking for a good takeout option for sushi, this is definitely worth trying.

One of the best sushis I’ve had on Long Island by far. The owners are so friendly! Had the Tuna Mountain, shumai and edamame for apps. Then the Fantastic 4, Yankee, Snow White and Phil roll (request only) — all were phenomenal. Also, the pieces were huuuuge! Definitely recommend.

Came here for dinner a little while ago.
Small, poorly lit, and smelly. Not pleasant to sit in.
The service was terrifically slow! Took nearly 45 minutes to take our order! The woman taking orders looked like she was trying her best to keep up with the flow of people but the place looked understaffed.
The sushi was horrible. The place is so inexpensive because they overstuff the rolls and sushi with mushy tasteless rice. The fish was bland and cut unbelievably thin.
I’m not sure how this place has gotten so many good reviews…

More like «yucky sushi». I ordered the Maki combo which had no flavor. The salad dressing tasted like watered down soy sauce. The atmosphere was odd and my water had black seeds floating in it. I asked for soda since I knew a canned drink would be cleaner and the waitress handed me a dirty straw. Never again.

So disappointed! I came here a couple of months ago and the food was very good and fresh. However, when I went back it was an entirely different story. Maybe business is slow and they’re cutting back on expenses since I was the only person there and no take out orders in the middle of lunch hour.
The food:
The miso soup was mostly salt. That was the predominant flavor.
The sushi appetizer was average at best. The tuna however, was off. Not rancid or bad just not high quality.
The spicy tuna roll barely had any tuna and was extreeeemly spicy. And this is from someone that thinks most places are not spicy at all.
Too bad, I hope things turn around but as of now, I will go to better options in the area.

I found my new favorite Japanese restaurant in long Island! I happened to pass by here after shopping and it’s a really cute & cozy place. The sushi was good quality and very fresh. They had very unique rolls and it was very flavorful than the ones I’ve been. Not to mention it the price was very inexpensive and their service was great. Definitely will be back when I’m in the area!

Well hmmm, what to say. What to say.
I just have a feeling that it might not be so lucky.
It is in slightly strange place.
Besides the location, the food was just passable. The dressing on the salad was very watery and the mango roll which sounded delish on the menu was not good. All of the rolls that we had were passable, not fantastic.
The only one that I really liked was the crunchy salmon skin hand roll. It was good, tasted like fish bacon and you can never go wrong with bacon.
Then again I’ve never had it before so I have no point of reference.
I won’t miss this place if I never eat there again.
Oh well, they tried.

All in all this wasn’t a bad sushi spot… yes it’s small maybe it’s better as a takeout than a comfortable or sexy dining experience… So be it.
Overall, the sushi quality is pretty good… I gauge my sushi on a couple things as: benchmarks
1. Saba, pickled mackerel if the place can execute Saba well than its a decent sushi.
2. Futomaki a traditional Japanese roll that, not one the Americanized flying dragon spider monkey coconut rolls. Lucky sushi was solid 3 stars on both.
The place must have a Korean connection as bulgogi beef was on the menu…
What’s sad is the road that this place is on so dark and hidden I’m not sure anybody besides locals are going to be able to drive by and give it a shot… so their future seems to be in some jeopardy however if you’re looking for decent takeout sushi or just a super casual dining inexperience give Lucky a try… solid three star sushi.

Great little find! Fresh, with plenty of variety at a reasonable price. We had the angel roll, Hawaiian Sunset, Rainbow roll. I’m almost nervous to share this, best kept little secret.

Lucky Sushi is some the best sushi I’ve had on Long Island, hands down. The restaurant has a casual feel and is perfect for a sit-​down dinner with friends or quick and easy take out. Their specialty rolls are delicious and artfully made, and their fish and other ingredients are fresh and tasty. Lucky’s menu has a ton of options for any seasoned sushi lover or someone new to the experience. The new owners are friendly and welcoming, and attentive to each customer’s needs.
I discovered Lucky Sushi about a month ago and I’ve been back 4 or 5 times since. This place is great!

I have been here a few times to order out. Small place. The sushi is pretty good. The turnaround is very quick with orders filled within 15 minutes. I love their dressing on the salad which is different from the typical ginger dressing of most Japanese restaurants. The owners are very nice whenever you walk in to pickup food.

I couldn’t be happier that I found this truly hidden gem. Ordered on a whim and had a really fantastic meal. This small shop can definitely keep up with some of the bigger sushi spots on Long Island. Rolls were creative, fish was fresh and flavorful, and the owners are incredibly nice. Recommend the Tunacado appetizer as well as the Hawaiian Sunset and Tuna Mountain roll. Already looking forward to my next visit!

Went here tonight at around 8 pm and the place had one other person there. I was starving and in the mood for sushi so I thought I would give it a shot. I went here just for takeout and ordered when I got there and my food was ready in about 5 minutes.
I wound up just ordering the lucky roll which was very yummy, next time I would just exclude the spicy sauce they put on top. It was good for someone who likes spicy but I was not for it.
If I need a quick sushi fix for the right price I will definitely be coming back here! I want to try some other things on the menu.

Good sushi. Good people. Good prices. Was traveling and looking for a good sushi place to try on my way to airport. This fit the bill nicely.

I recently came here with my girlfriend for a late lunch. Since it was late (close to 3) we were the only customers. We ended up sitting at the sushi bar which was relaxing and the couple that works there were very welcoming.
The rolls and appetizers were delicious and the sushi tasted really fresh.

Having only visited this place for the first time after their management switch on April 15, I can’t speak for any experiences before then. But as far as I am concerned, the new management is great. A lovely, friendly little couple with a knack for sushi, at a fair price. Both times I have visited, it was for a late lunch (2−3pm) so we have been the only customers there. I get an hour for my lunch break, and am constantly worrying about where to go, based on the speed of the service. Here I don’t have to give it a second thought. We get our food and time to relax well within the time constraints of an hour to get back to work.
My suggestion: get the Tunacado or Salmoncado app and no matter which roll you pick, you won’t be disappointed. Brown rice options available.

They recently opened again, under a new management! The owner happens to be the guy who used to own one of the best japanese restaurants in Long Island! I used to go there a lot in the past but was devastated when they sold it! But I’m glad they are back in town!!!
Food is beyond impeccable, service is warm and amiable ;)
What more can you ask for?
I highly encourage those that haven’t tried this place yet.
The chef is the master, with years of experience and he makes amazing rolls.

I eat there at least 3 times per week. Freshly made while I wait. Good prices. Have weekly specials Monday thru Wednesday. Price of daily special roll is $ 4.00. Nice women work there. :0)
