Sun ‘N Sands Motel

The motel is old and smells they choose to do major repairs on the weekends, the noises so loud we weren’t even able to take a nap. The worst thing about it is they charge you top dollar and you have to deal with drug dealers… the worst.

I’ve been in the Hospitality & Travel Industry for over 20 years.
I have no invested interest in the Sun N’ Sand Motel so this review is totally unbiased.

The Sun ’ N Sands is a «MOTEL » not a Luxury Resort & Spa.
If this what you’re looking for, there’s the Waterfront Hilton as well as The Waterfront Hyatt Spa & Resort, both less than 2 miles south down PCH towards Newport Beach.
Expect to pay upwards of $ 295-​$ 400/​night plus tax & fees.

Most of the negative feedback seems to be about lack of emenities.
The Sun & Sands Motel has upgraded their rooms in the last 24 months.
All rooms now have «Ice Cold «air Conditioning & Flat Screen TVs.
The Wifi Signal is plenty strong.
The View is as good as it gets!
Yes it’s an old spot & that’s the point. Old surf motel along the coast.
It’s the experience your staying there for.
You can find a Hilton or Best western in any town.
Gems like this are almost an extinct breed along our coast.
Enjoy them while they last.
There’s only 1 Sun & Sands Motel of Huntington Beach.

This place was great! Definitely a beach hotel. The decals on the walls are done in a way that are non evasive, they give the room some life and help to portray a great beach vibe. There is even a hose by the entrance to wash the sand off your feet!
There are a few needed maintenance issues like the window screen being bent and the shower having some rust but these are things that wouldn’t necessarily stop me from coming back. The wifi and cable can do with some servicing, especially when everyone wants to Netflix and chill on the smart tv after a day of sun.
Especially, if you’re in an altered state after coming back from Main Street (and the surrounding streets) filled with great food, day spas, and shopping. Which, by the way, are about a brisk 5 minute walk, with a great view, a convenience store and a pharmacy along the way.
I was (and still am) a little bummed about the price of the room changing every time I called (a total of 3). But it was still cheaper than the major hotels on the PCH.
All in all, this was a great spot to have an impromptu weekend vacation.

Small cozy clean room, what more could you ask for in a place by the beach. It’s the off season and rates might be more expensive other times of the year, but if in the area I would stay again.
This reminds me of the old coastal beachside hotels in Florida. It is designed for beach lovers and surfers, a place to sleep, shower and go back to the beach. Love it for what it is, and if you want posh then pay double down the road.
If you read other reviews of a few people who posted bad comments, you will see they post mostly negative comments and few good ones.
Pros: good price, nice staff, great location and clean room.
Cons: beach traffic and noise is probably bad at busy times of the year. Smaller rooms

Quaint, clean and comfortable, and the cheapest room you’ll find right across from the beach. It ain’t the Hilton but it does the trick regardless.

Way over priced. Rooms were dusty. No AC, and fans did not work well which made room stuffy and hard to sleep. Hard to keep window open for fresh air due to noise, although by the middle of the night it did get quiet. On a positive note, location is great and the front desk was friendly. We booked only a couple days in advance on one of the busiest weekends and still got a room (that’s probably why we paid $ 249) This is your typical ‘motel’, it’s just a place to sleep. Bed was comfortable enough. If the fans would have worked better and the room was not so dusty (headboards were really bad) I would give 3 stars.

Highly not recommend staying at this hotel. Worse service. Rooms are highly outdated. Beds felt as if you were laying on the box spring. Carry, supposedly the manager, is very unprofessional and seems like the type of person you can find on the corner panhandling. She harasses you even if you aren’t in your room by calling you numerous times for being loud because of her other patrons complaining. Complete non sense! I was told to bring my keys back right away because she wanted to go to bed. I was only in my room for twenty minutes. (Yes! That’s right keys.) Just an example of the numerous outdates for this hotel. I was promised a refund for bringing the keys back but once brought them back, no refund was given. Her story had changed.
Overall, was the worse experience!!! Just pay the extra money and stay at the Hyatt or über a ride back to a much nicer hotel more inland.

Do not waste your money. The only good thing is the location. The room was very small and depressing. No amenities, i should of stayed at motel 6. It would if been nicer and i would saved $$.
The atmosphere was very noisy! Stay somewhere else!
On top if everything the family who lives tbere on property who runs it got into a shouting match! Not professional at all!

Let me begin by saying that I work in the hotel industry, and I know the worth of taking the time to write a review, whether the news is good or bad! Well I have good news my fellow travelers — this hotel is a nice little gem directly in front of the beach! Prior to our stay, I searched the reviews for two things: bugs and bad management, happily finding neither. the hotel staff was very welcoming and professional. the only bummer was that the wifi was nearly impossible to get within the room. but the boyfriend and I were there enjoying a romantic vacation, so the wifi wasn’t such a huge deal to us. if you’re expecting a five star hotel, go pay two or three times the amount to stay in one! if you’re looking for a clean hotel within walking distance to the beach and Main Street, where the majority of restaurants and little shops are located, with friendly staff and a fun little beach feel to it, stop searching and book this place now :) we had a wonderful little getaway, and hopefully you will as well!

The motel was expensive for a motel with no tub but other than that it was clean and loved that it was walking distance from all the action. I would feel almost $ 200 for one night would have been more worth it if the décor and furniture was not outdated, the service was great though and the atmosphere was easygoing and bohemian

I am traveling by myself and decided to stay in my old hometown of HB. I found this place last minute and am not disappointed. Carrie is fantastic and a no nonsense gal. I felt safe and secure at this hotel. I don’t know if the price is comparable because I didn’t check. It seemed a bit high, however I am worth it and it is right across from the beach. The room has a fridge and microwave. A ceiling fan keeps the air moving, the bed is nice and firm. And this room is a non smoking room, which in this case I do not smell cigarettes like I do in other hotels non smoking rooms. This motel is 55 years old so don’t expect updated fixtures and décor. It is an original beach hotel with lots of character. It’s good to be home. I am very happy with this room and area and will be back. Carrie made the experience that much nicer. Thanks Carrie!!!

Really happy with this motel. We were across the street from the ocean. Watched the ocean from the balcony. The lady manager, was so accommodating. She let us borrow her beach toys. There was a water hose to use to get all the sand off of us, which was really helpful. The room was perfect. Fridge, microwave, big king bed. I will defiantly stay here next time we visit

I really wish I could give zero stars but I can’t. Planned to stay 3 nights, called to book 3 nights and left my CC information with the reservation woman. Called to confirm my stay today (3 days prior to the reservation) and my last name wasn’t correct, and they only had us booked for one night, so I asked to book us for two more, which I received attitude for. Then I confirmed the price given $ 109, told that included tax. He informed me it didn’t. I told him we would pay the taxes but to let him know that we received wrong information and they should all get on one page about the prices. The man responded with an extremely rude answer that ended in «I’ll make sure to let everyone know you are defending them» Sarcastic and rude. After that call my spouse and I felt very uncomfortable about staying there so we called back to ask the cancellation policy. They said 3 days for full refund. Today is thursday and our reservation was sunday, that’s plenty of time. He said we had to pay for Sunday. So we hung up and booked another hotel, at this point we felt very uncomfortable staying there and I let the lady working with him know we felt uncomfortable. I called back a third time to cancel our reservation and the man immediately went off on me stating derogatory statements and telling me I was a nuisance and he didn’t want me staying there and hung up on me. So extremely mad and offended.

This used to be my favorite place to stay in HB. Called to make a reservation and the guy quoted me a higher price than their internet price. I told him I would just book on the internet then. He replied all reservations go through him and that was the price. He then got rude and asked what I wasn’t understanding about that… When I said he didn’t have to be rude he hung up on me. Will never give this place my business again.

I love this place. I’ve stayed here about 10 times so far and always have been pleased with my stay. Carrie goes out of her way to make sure we have everything we need. This last time there were 4 of us women and we booked the mini-​suite which has been my favorite room so far. It has an ocean view and comfortably accommodated all of us. You can’t beat the location and the price tag is reasonable. I will definitely stay again!

The only plus to staying in this motel is that it is right across the street from the water.
If you want a clean place then don’t book a room here. The rooms smell dirty, kinda like a litter box… No air conditioning, just a fan. Mix matched furniture, faded bed spread. Thankfully we were able to get a refund & go to a local Marriot.

My sister, her kids and myself stay here almost every Spring Break and we love it! Carrie and her kids are super cool. Our room has a great view of the beach and we are within blocks of all the downtown shops. We have always had a great experience and will continue to stay.

I have a customer who comes in from Atlanta about once a year… he loves HB so I always book him a room here. It’s a simple place… older in appearance. But always clean, and the beach is across the street. Literally… there is nothing inbetween you and the sand except PCH. I can’t imagine finding something this close to the beach and a 10 min walk from downtown HB cheaper.
I just got off the phone with Carrie after booking the room again this year. Busy but very helpful and considerate. Thanks Carrie!

Well let me just say, I really wanted to like this place. It looked old and family owned and I typically like places like that but…
$ 159.00 a night (directly from the Hotel) NO AIR CONDITIONER and extremely dirty. The dirt wasn’t like it hadn’t been cleaned but like it was grime from years ago. Free breakfast included coffee and a honey bun
in the clear wrapper. All the staff was nice and our isolating fan was changed out as soon as we told them it didn’t work. I’m sorry but if you don’t have A/​C at least have a $ 20 fan that works. They have a nice big fridge in the rooms with microwave that could save lot’s of cash. They are exactly 60sec. from the beach so that was cool. I will try another beach hotel next time.

This is not your high class ritzy resort.
It IS a wonderful place tho! I stay here EVERYTIME! Right on the beach and within walking distance of downtown. Staff is ALWAYS friendly (Hi Carrie!) and more then accommodating. My room has always been clean and quiet. Free wi-​fi and snacky breakfast items in the morning. You can NOT beat the price!!!
It is a simple small place so don’t expect it to be the Hilton…
