Most likely everybody hates going to the dentist but I have to say I like coming to this office. Everyone is so friendly. They always remember you no matter how long it has been and their dental hygienist Bernie is so gentle and so sweet. Dr. Shimizu is very knowledgeable and down to earth. They take my insurance and there are no hidden charges. You should definitely try this office.

I highly recommend Dr Shimizu! I worked in the dental field yrs ago and I find him to be an excellent dentist. His office is up to date with the newest equipment and they take great care in cleanliness and sterilization.

Been going to Dr. Shimizu for about 20 years. Three kids received braces. Staff is great with wonderful service. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great dental office to go to.

Dr. Shimizu is a wonderful Dentist and Orthodontist. He is extremely knowledgeable in the field of dentistry and always gives the best care to his patients. You can definitely count of him for honest feedback and treatment.

I have been going here since I was little. I have never gone anywhere else in my life. Dr. S has never done me wrong at all and is painless and smooth. These people that wrote the negative post can not be telling the full story because I know him way better then most people and my family has had many different types of work done there, and they never have had any issue! Give him a shot, he’s very professional and does great work. Only negative is that he’s a NY Jets fan!

I went to Dr. Shimizu, after a referral from a friend. I came in with tooth pain, he insisted I need a root canal, ASAP. The pain was so bad, I agreed. However, I had to go back FIVE times for him to finally finish the work. Yet, I still had pain in that tooth. After a second opinion, turns out I grind my teeth at night, NEVER needed the root canal. Thank God I put the payment on my credit card — they fully refunded my money. Please do NOT go see this guy. He is a total crook. When I confronted him on the issue, he would not get on the phone with me. My friend who referred me — turns out she had several root canals that she also did not need (she found out after my issue with him). He’s a con-​artist, please find someone else!

Not sure where the great reviews are coming from to be honest. My parents had me see this dentist a long time ago and I had mentioned my sensitive teeth which was pretty much ignored completely as they finished up my cleaning and asked nothing about them. I refused to ever go back and I moved back to Huntington Beach recently and since my father rants and raves about how amazing Dr Shimizu is, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt to see if he would listen to me and handle a tooth that is ground down a tiny bit from a piercing I used to have there and the tooth has now been causing me terrible pain.
I very carefully explained to him that the TOP of the tooth was slightly damaged and explained all about the lip piercing when I was younger and what it had done and WHERE the pain was coming from, WHAT caused it etc. He wanted to do flouride trays but been there done that and have still been in pain so we discussed drilling the tooth and a filling, I said ok.
When I got home and the numbing wore off I took a closer look at the tooth and realized I didn’t see ANYTHING there and that even through the numbing, I was still in a lot of pain. I called the dental office immediately and Dr Shimizu then proceeded to argue with me that he had told me the EXACT spot the filling was going to be placed (He put one on my GUMLINE, where NOTHING was wrong). He did NOT tell me that but simply wanted to cover himself since he made an obvious mistake and did NOT listen to what I had to say about my problem. Nothing about this office had changed in 12 years and he was quite rude about it. Not only that, but the pain has been SO bad after having such a sensitive tooth drilled on and given an UNNECESSARY filling that I am now going to get a root canal after an Endodonist (root canal specialist) told me I’d need one. Will NEVER return to Dr Shimizu and may possibly be filing a complaint with the Dental Board of California as I don’t appreciate that he not only took up my dental benefits with this procedure I didn’t need, but it was painful and am now paying out of pocket for a root canal.

I moved out of HB and came back to Dr. Shimizu after a really horrible experience with another dentist. I realized that I really appreciate his calm manner, his expertise and the efficiency of the staff. I would definitely recommend him to others.

I was referred to Dr. Shimizu by a co-​worker and I have been very satisfied the services I’ve received. You can trust Dr. Shimizu’s office with your teeth and after trying a few dentists his prices and services are within reason and most importantly he’s honest about what treatments needs to be done instead being pushy on extra services.
His staff is friendly, knowledgeable and down to earth. When I got dental treatment in Irvine, it was a huge mistake as they charge more and whack you for more fees. Dr. Shimizu won’t do that and tell you what you need to do.
I would highly recommend Dr. Shimizu for your dental health and I’m glad I found a dentist who knows what’s up!
