Specialties

Rusty’s chips are truly the only all natural handmade potato chip you will ever have. We slice our fresh bakersfield potatoes by hand one at a time in a small vegetable slicer. Then we slow cook the unprocessed slices in expellor pressed safflower oil. After slow cooking the slices we remove them from this very fine and expensive oil and gently salt our chips with french mediterranean sun dried evaporated sea salt. Each bag is then hand filled and weighed one bag at a time. Then sealed all by hand. We don’t even own a conveyor belt.

What a chip! One bite and you will know what a Rusty chip is all about. Rusty’s chips are very low in fat, with no trans fats, and no saturated fat. They are also low in calories and low in salt; I don’t feel that we have to make our chips salty to have them taste great.

Rusty’s chips are all natural in that we do not process this slice before we cook it. We just slice and cook.

History

Established in 1984.

Rusty’s Chips has had 2 incarnations. Back in the 80’s Rusty decided to make authentic Maui style potato chips on the mainland. So while managing a restaurant in Newport Beach, CA, Rusty began trying to figure out how to make a super thick and crunchy potato chip that was unlike any other chips available (on the main land) a maui chip.

once the recipe was figured out it was off to the OC swapmeet to see if people liked them… well they loved them… with in a few years the chips were up and down California selling really well. To well… eventually growth issues, namely cash flow became an issue and to make a long story short the company got sold and with in a few years was out of business… after that Rusty opened a few bars for some people in orange county but after getting burned and burned out he ended up de stressing and living on a friends boat on Balboa island while doing handy man work. that lasted for several years but around 2000 Rusty Started the chips again…

When I (Rusty Jr.) was about 9 or 10

I thought that was the coolest thing in the world.

I started working with my dad in about 2000 and due to health issues took over the company with the help

of my wife and good friend in 2014. My dad is now helping out and taking it easy, but mostly taking it easy.
