Huntington Pet Vet

We’ve been going to Pet Vet for years and they took wonderful care of our French Bulldog, Simeon. They may not have known our names, but they all knew who Simeon was. Unfortunately, we lost Simeon in late 2015. We recently got a new puppy and look forward to many years of them looking after our new furbaby.

Just left after seeing Dr. Munson. What a nice and kind man. Was very caring for my dog and checked her out very carefully and gently. Got her shot, well check and some more flea pills. Office staff extremely friendly and helpful. Place is busy for a reason.

We rescued a new friend that is three years old, and poor thing had never been to a vet before. Actually, she had never been out of a small backyard before. Never been walked, rode in a car, or even given a treat.
With this fresh start I asked around and was told Pet Vet is a good and affordable local vet. I would have to agree with that, here’s a few things to note if you are considering taking your pet here:
I was not impressed with Dr. Niato’s handling of meeting our dog. She didn’t actually touch her until she had to take her to the back to get her first shots. Don’t you want to actually examine the dog? I asked her some questions about a open wound and she couldn’t really answer me. She just said, «oh I didn’t look at that».
Setting aside the odd meeting of the dr, everything else here went great. She got spayed here, and I think they did a really good job. The scar is minimal and she didn’t have any issues healing well.
The front desk people are nice. Our girl got a little nervous the second time there and decided to take a nice big poop on the floor in the waiting room. Everyone was really nice about it, as I was bright red and trying to get what I could before I got the stink eye from other people waiting in there. Stink eye. haha.
Their prices are cheap. Probably the most affordable vet i’ve ever dealt with. Yes, the wait times can be long, but you can come in any time and wait. They are open on weekends.

Just want to say Dr. Naito & the staff working there are very cold & impersonal. I took my dog here for years & even he hated it would growl every time the staff would come in. Now I go to another vet where they warm & friendly unlike this one.

We have several pets that have been gong to see Dr Munson for many years. A 13 year old pug that has seen him for 11 years for everything from a torn out nail to eye and ear infections. An 11 month old yorkie that has been there for new puppy treatments and after a serious attack by a retriever at dog beach, and a 10 year old cat that is cranky as hell. The office staff has always been professional and considerate, and the Dr very helpful.
As for the various complaints on other reviews…
1) yes, the waiting room can be smelly after a long day. But this is not the staff or doctors, this is uncaring pet owners that do not take care of their animals outside, or do not clean up after their animals inside. The staff comes out and sterilizes the floor whenever someone lets them know their animal had an accident.
2) they do not know your name or your pets condition off the top of their heads. In the 3 hour block they are open on Sunday, I frequently see upwards of 50 to 60 pets go through those doors.
3) follow up/​instructions — I have always found the instructions given to be straightforward and complete. But as a pet owner, I also think it is your job to be informed. Having a pet is a responsibility, and saying you didn’t know your animal needed a vaccination because they didn’t tell you is like saying you didn’t now you were out of milk because the checker at the grocery store didn’t remind you.

yes there is a wait here, it’s because in my experiences here they take there time with each animal, I will take all my pets here they are fair with the prices and up front with the service

Dr. Munson is awesome. Everyone that works there is super nice. They are fast, efficient and affordable. My dog was attacked at the park by another dog. Dr. Munson was so gentle, kind, funny and smart and very personable. He took care of our little guy quickly. And you could tell how much he loves animals. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!

We brought our (now 6 month old) puppy here after the rescue agency we got her from contacted us to tell us a few of her litter mates had coccidia and giardia. They instructed us to bring her here because it’s who they work with, and they would bill the company directly.
I should add-​d he was already on antibiotics because she had kennel cough when we got her, and she had only been treated here.
We took her back another 6 times in 3 months to be checked, as we could not get rid of her parasites.
The first time she still had them, and she was still on the antibiotics from her cough– and their vet tech (the small asian guy) handed me MORE antibiotics. I said «she already has some, is his going to be bad?» and he said «she does?» and put them away. He didn’t even read her chart– was just quick to pump MORE meds into a 12 week old puppy.
Each time I took her here she a. never saw a doctor (until I requested it) and b. they could NEVER find her in the system.
The last time I took her I brought a stool sample with me, which was mushy.
A female Asian doctor came in (rumor has it it’s her practice) and looked at the sample and said «ew, what’s wrong with your dog? This isn’t normal.» Well no sh** that’s why she is at the vet. I told her I was waiting for a doctor to come examine her as we cannot get rid of these parasites, and she said «well let me get someone.» I asked her if she was a doctor and she said yes, but she’d get someone else.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to add that my dog even now @ 6 months has a hacked up scar from her spay– which one of their doctors said «looked like an intern did it.» When I told them the name of the doctor who DID do it, he laughed and said «oh well that’s unlike her, she’s been in this industry for years.»
Long story short. We will find a more compassionate, organized, reputable vet.

I drive all the way from Buena Park for this compassionate fun Vet. Extremely caring staff and Dr. Norton is so patient and wise. Very practical not over priced. Works with your budget friendly.

I had been taking my dog here for two years. Finally, I could not take how, even with an appointment, I had to wait a half hour or more. The last time I was there, they lost my paperwork and the vet kept calling my dog «her» (it’s a boy)! While my dog was in their care, he had two diabetic episodes due to a lack of consistency on their part.
On my last visit, I told two of the techs that I was unhappy with the care and was going to go to a new vet. I had to ask a few times for my pet’s records and no one apologized or seemed concerned about losing my business.

I have taken my pets to this vet many times over the last few years without any problems. However– something has changed and I will not be back. Ever.
Not only was the place chaotic, but the front desk staff could be heard mumbling about the lack of communication that was taking place as well…
Upon arrival my injured cat was taken back for assessment. However, it’s doubtful that it ever happened. I waited for an hour and a half before then being shuffled into an exam room– where I waited for 40 more minutes without ever being acknowledged. I asked repetitively for an update about the situation… They must have forgotten.
Once I made the decision to leave, and asked for my cat back– they fumbled around for the paperwork which was misplaced and handed me back my animal. No apologies, and no conversations with Dr Yamato. It’s a shame that the doctor couldn’t prioritize her patients or even politely communicate to me WHY I had been put off, or what the prognosis was.
Thankfully, a friend of mine referred me to her vet over at the AAA animal hospital. I was immediately greeted with kindness and compassion… Our animals are our children– they know this here

Terrible customer service, the guy that answered the phone was very rude and condescending. Long wait times to drop off, pick up, and see a vet. Will never go back!

This review is only for the front desk staff… we buy our dog food here, but use a different vet. Every encounter I have at this place as been poor. Here are the issues:
1. The place is filthy and smells terrible, I mean burn your eyes, make you sneeze, bad.
2. The front staff is complacent and appear uncaring. And they are SUPER UNORGANIZED! I called ahead to make sure they had the food I needed and they assured me they did (after leaving me on hold for 10 minutes). Then when I arrived they had the wrong food, told me they couldn’t find the food I needed and then after «searching» they finally found the food.
3. The wait is RIDICULOUS! Again, I’ve never waited for the vet, only the front staff for food. There have been times I’ve waited up to 30 minutes… just to pay for dog food!
I wouldn’t come back except they are the only place close that carries what I need. But I definitely would NEVER bring a pet here.

Might be a great place for standard pets, but I find there are very few places that excel at caring for birds in Huntington. Pet Vet, unfortunately, fits that stereotype. The main vet that saw me and my sick Cockatiel grabbed her roughly with a paper towel and then told me that «birds are tricky» and that she wasnt sure what she could do for her. She then told me that ten years is pretty good for a cockatiel, injected her with an antiobiotic, and shoved her back in the cage. Like I said, most vets are great with cats and dogs, so maybe thats the case here. Just wanted to let the bird owners out there to go somewhere else!

Since posting my original review a year ago, I’ve recently had the misfortune to visit Huntington Pet Vet three more times. 1: I accompanied my sister, a regular client, to an appointment scheduled with Dr. Naito, for an initial examination of her newly adopted dog. 2: I dropped off, my sister’s new dog, for a followup teeth cleaning appointment. & 3: I accompanied my sister to pick her dog up, after the teeth cleaning procedure was performed.
If you’re looking for a new vet, do yourself and your pet/​pets a favor and cross this place off the list. As a practice, the focus of Huntington Pet Vet is clearly NOT the health and welfare of its patients, nor do they have the proper respect for their clients. I found it very frustrating and extremely difficult to remain a passive observer, while my sister dealt with the unprofessional and disorganized front desk staff, and then again during the appointment with Dr. Naito. The exam Dr. Naito performed was extremely brief and inadequate for a new pet. My sister had numerous concerns and questions that Dr. Naito didn’t even acknowledge, until I butted in and echoed them.
I should also mention that on the day of the initial exam appointment, the lobby REEKED, which made the substantial wait nearly intolerable. So, the morning I dropped the dog off for the teeth cleaning procedure, I was relieved to open the door and discover that the office smelled clean; But within moments of arriving, I witnessed a nervous dog defecate and urinate in front of the counter. Other than hand the owner some paper towels, none of the staff made any attempt to help clean of disinfect the floor. (After seeing that, I would have never left my own pet there.) Later that evening, when we arrived to pick up my sister’s dog, I was not surprised to discover that the lobby had a very strong and foul odor again.

The post procedure care Huntington Pet Vet provided was completely inadequate. I was dumbfounded when the post procedure instructions were only quickly explained to my sister, while she was at the counter paying her bill and was surrounded by the noise and chaos of the lobby. When my sister asked a question, she was told to refer to the labels on the medications. Wow! — Normal Standard of Care, required that the veterinarian that performed the teeth cleaning procedure, should have met with my sister in an exam room and to go over everything that was done. My sister should have been able to discuss the procedure with the vet, ask the vet questions, and should have been shown pictures, X-​rays, extracted teeth, etc.
I know I’ve been spoiled by the extremely high quality and personalized care that my regular vets provide, but the Pet Vet experiences really were at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. I don’t think anyone should ever settle for or tolerate being treated like just another number. Even if you’re fortunate enough (like I was on my first visit) not to wait for an extended period of time, exposure to that type of dirty and chaotic environment can stress a healthy animal, and will only further unnecessarily stress the immune system of a sick animal.

I love Pet Vet. I lived in Huntington Beach for almost 20 years and always took my dogs here. They have always worked with me financially and when I could not find a cure for something with a different vet, Pet Vet has always had an answer and helped to cure whatever it was (in this case a skin problem).
I moved to Aliso Viejo in 2011 and since then, I have looked at other Vets here in Aliso and in Mission Viejo. I have not been happy with any of them. They all seem to have dollar signs in their eyes and are not very helpful.
At the beginning of 2015, my older cocker spaniel came down with Lymphoma and the vet I took him to near our home, said he had 6 – 8 weeks to live, after he discovered the lymph nodes in his neck were swollen. I took him back to see Dr. Bennington and she told me that this was a very treatable cancer. We put him on steroids and an antibiotic and I got almost five more months with my sweet boy. He was 11 years old and I was not going to put him through surgery or chemo. Finally, this week (April 27), he was unable to get up and he was suffering. It was difficult to watch him struggle and I knew it was time. We went in and the employees in the front, were super sensitive and Dr. Bennington was with me all the way. They all helped me though a very difficult time losing my Sunny, who I had, had since he was 8 weeks old.
I will continue to make the drive from Aliso Viejo to Pet Vet. I don’t want to take my beloved animals anywhere else. For the people writing horrible reviews, I don’t get it.
Dr. Naito is a very busy lady and she has 2 other VERY capable vets working with her. Give them a chance. You won’t be sorry.

I found HB Pet Vet about a year ago and have not turned back since. This place is busy (for a reason). Great service and extremely honest and helpful.
I have not had any complications with vaccines, making appointments, or anything. Their prices are great also, I use to work at a Vet’s office so know when a place is being unfair. HB Pet Vet is fair and will not do a service unless it is needed. Today my pup had an allergic reaction and needed to be seen ASAP and when I arrived they took him straight to the back and did what was needed.
Very helpful staff and a great place to take your animal (s).

Should have read the reviews before going. I see that our experience was not unique.
Here were the issues:
1. I’ve never been to a vet that smelled this bad. Should have been my first red flag. A few times, one of the assistants sprayed Febreeze around the front door. Really odd.
2. Waited for an hour to see Dr. Naito before we were even put in an exam room. We waited another 20 before we came to our senses and walked out. We never saw the dr, obviously.
3. When we told them we were leaving, no one cared and it seemed like a normal occurrence
4. During the hour and 20 min they even took a walk-​in ahead of us. We had made an appointment.
Not recommended.

I have been going to HB Pet Vet a long time, before they moved to the new building.
Part of problem people have with HBPV is they are very busy and the front desk staff seems to change a lot.
I’ve always recived very fair treatment from HBPV I have had a few other vets and most of them seem to be more interested in making their Mercedies payment from my visit the helping my pet.
I have dogs, no cats, birds, snakes, spiders, whatever, so if that’s different I dunno.
When you go in, make sure you put your name on the chart on the desk. If you have to see Dr. Naito you might need o wait. I have heard good things about the «new» vets at HBPV and even had a guy recommend «the old guy» over Dr. Naito

Let’s start by just saying the word horrible. Horrible pet vet should be the name of this is vet.
First off, let’s start with the fact that not any one of their front office even acknowledge your existence neither your pet.
You can actually stand for over 30 minutes and won’t even be recognized as needing help. On checkout, people randomly step in front of you to be checked out and the front office doesn’t even pay attention to who standing in line first or any order.
This place is busy, you would think with such a return amount of customers that this was a good vet. Don’t befool! Actually there may even be a few good that’s here but Dr. Naito is not one of them.
My Persian was brought in for stenotic nare surgery which is the widening of the nostrils area and to be neutered. Never got a call post surgery, your cat is ok you can come pick him up nothing!
A day later, a worthless overview of the nostril surgery from dr naito and im out the door.
Post surgery my poor precious cat has a nasty infection that has caused him to be very sick, like they didnt even bother to use clean tools to oprate.
Horrible place, horrible experience.
