I really, really enjoy mom & pop places like this one — definitely consider this place one of gems. Only thing that sucks is that they’re closed on Sunday. My dilemma every time I come here is whether to order a few of the following things or to order something I haven’t tried yet which I highly recommend, in no particular order: Broasted Chicken(I like all of the seasoning options) Chili Philly Cheesesteak Huckleberry Club

Amazing! Best chicken we have ever had. This is a must have. A hole in the wall that is so worth trying. We will be driving back from Irvine for this.

Hands down the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. So juicy and not oily at all. Just incredible. This is a family own and operated store. The owners are so nice. I love these kind of business.

Excellent Cajun fried chicken and satisfying Philly cheese steak sandwich! Ate only half of the sandwich and two pieces of chicken thighs, a bite of the broasted potatoes and finished the coleslaw. That pretty much filled me to the brim! Can’t believe this place has been here this whole time while I’ve been living so close by for more than 20 years! Well I guess better late than never! I liked the relaxed atmosphere here, very homey and no frills. That way, you can totally focus on enjoying the meal in front of you. Bonus: they bring out the sriracha with your order :) this place really knows what’s up!

Unilocal Challenge 2015291⁄365 Broasted Chicken and potatoes hot and fresh right outta the fryer in a strip mall? Yes please. This is one bookmark that I am checking off my list. And one where all my Unilocal buds were right about. So, repeat after me. Broasted Chicken. Did you practice saying it? Those are the only two words you need to let roll off your tongue in this local gem in HB where service is authentic and welcoming. Meals are off the hook, complete with Broasted potatoes and a side. The 3 piece Chicken dinner was a real winner. Perfectly fried chicken oozing with juice with zero guilt. Chicken and potatoes made the journey home and maintained its crispness and warmth and into the awaiting belly. 3 piece chicken tenders, baked beans, fries and a roll for $ 7.99. Tenders were delicious. I am not sure if they were frozen or fresh, but they were some of the best chicken tenders I’ve tried. Fries reminded me of the old school CJ fries, back in the day. They had sone sort of coating on them. Huge fan now. #667

Love how welcoming this family owned business is! The club sandwich is soo tasty! I’m impressed with how fast our order was ready. It was a little part dinner time and it had a few people in the place. The chicken looked soo good– can’t wait to try that! I recommend this place!

A solid mom & pop in HB. Huckleberry’s Famous Sandwiches was a complete Unilocal find(thank you Tracie L.) and although the interior is a no frills affair, the prices are right and the customer service is quite good. I probably should have ordered the heralded Braised Chicken but I was trying to behave and went with the Turkey Sandwich and I am not disappointed with that decision. The sandwich is an old school«club sandwich» like experience with layers of delicious turkey meat, lettuce, tomato, pickle, pepperoncini, cheese and bread. All of the ingredients were plenty fresh and the portions were more than enough to satisfy the pangs of lunch hunger. Next time I am in the area I will have to swing back in again to try the Braised Chicken but in the meantime I would happily recommend Huckleberry’s Famous Sandwiches to anyone in the area looking for a quality sandwich for lunch.

We found ourselves here after stopping by another place in nearby Westminster. I was searching on my Unilocal app for something satisfying since I wasn’t familiar with the area and I relied on favorable Unilocal reviews for a good lunch meal. I don’t need a fancy dining restaurant to eat a satisfying meal. Well, Huckleberry’s provides just that. Good food with blast from the past dining décor. It’s all good, the chicken was good and the Asian in me wished I had my juicy fried chicken with some steamed white rice instead of the roasted potatoes and dinner roll it was served with. It was over a hundred degrees out when we arrived here and having an A/C filled room would have been nice, but the standing fans throughout the dining room sufficed and somewhat felt like home to me, lol. Service was good, fried chicken was great and I would certainly return back to buy some chicken to bring home to San Diego if the mood for fried chicken ever strikes whenever we’re in the O/C.

This place gets a 4.5 stars from me, but I’ll round up because I’m feeling generous(and the fact that the owners are fellow koreans). All scoring aside, the food and service that is provided by these local mom and pop shop owners are exceptional. I came during the heat of one summer day because for some reason I was craving some good olé fried chicken. When I came here, they advertised their chicken as broasted rather than fried. If you have ever tried broasted chicken, you would know that it’s kind of like fried chicken but the chicken meat is juicier and the chicken skin is crispier due to the fact that it is esssentially being fried on a pressure cooker. The broasted chicken here did not disappoint as it is definitely a top 3 of the many broasted chicken shops I have tried. As for their service, the food came out in a timely manner, but what was exceptional about their service during my visit was how caring they were during the wait for my food. As mentioned earlier, I came on a hot summer day. The owners noticed that I was fanning myself with their menu so they brought out their electric fan just to keep me cool. Now is that service or what! Granted, it was a slow day and a happy customer is a returning customer. And I will definitely be returning here more often!

I have no clue how I haven’t reviewed this place yet. They really do have THEBEST broasted chicken. Their chicken is prepared by order so it is always fresh. I usually call in my order and pick it up 15 minutes later when the chicken is ready. ALWAYS very friendly and helpful in choosing different combos. The potato and macaroni salad comes with the chicken combo and they are both yummy as well. The potatoes that come in the plate are seasoned with Cajun seasoning just like the chicken. I usually ask for extra because it gives it extra flavor. I also recommend their grilled chicken salad. Probably the only salad I always crave, so good. They’re also known for their delicious sandwiches. Highly recommend this little hidden gem.

Broasted Chicken … that’s all you need to know about Huckleberry’s. You get to enjoy broasted chicken that wasn’t fried with all that grease. The chicken is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. They offer a variety of 2, 3, 4 and family meals for the chicken. Find the time to eat the chicken at the casual restaurant because that’s when it will taste the best. Oh, they also offer some great sandwiches like their turkey on squaw bread. Pretty good. Huckleberry’s has wonderful service with the lady owner behind the counter … super sweet, and that broasted addictive chicken they serve. I’m a fan and will return. 4 Stars!

Sandwiches weren’t that impressive. Not a lot of meat at all and I don’t care for a lot of meat, so that’s saying a lot when I think a sandwich is chincy. However, veggies and bread were super fresh and soft and the squaw bread was yummyyyyy! I also ordered a tuna salad and it was the bomb. Lettuce was good, veggies were good, tuna was solid white albacore(love it), and the ranch dressing was good. Also, the owners are the workers(a husband and wife) and they were SO incredibly nice and polite and efficient and thankful for the business. Would go there everyday for a salad if I lived closer.

The ONLY thing I know about Huckleberry«Huck» is his adventures in a book that is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River. Well this place is far from the South and is located in a mini strip mall in SoCal on the other side of Bella Terra. I seem to have been living under a rock because several Unilocal buds have been here. I met some Unilocal buds here for lunch and I was passed famished. When I arrived they had already ordered and had grabbed us a table. Now parking can be tough but I managed to snag a spot despite some silly construction truck taking up several parking spots. I had already checked out the menu via my trusty Unilocal app and knew what I wanted but I glanced over the menu just in case I had a change of mind. I ordered the Philly cheese steak which came with Philly steak, cheese and onions. You can’t get theses sands in too many places in SoCal so I wanted to see how this place would hold up against others I have had. I also got a Snapple to wash it all down. This places sales sands of all kinds. Hot or cold, turkey, tuna, ham, chicken etc but they are known for the fried chicken which my two Unilocal buds ordered! It apparently comes in different flavors which is a new one for me because the last time I had fried chicken it wasn’t flavored! I’m NOT a fired chicken eater. The smell of the fried chicken hits you in the face as you walk in the shop and you can hear the snap, crackle and pop of the chicken in the grease as it cooks! My sand and there chicken both came out at the same time which was NICE so we all dug in! My sand was PRETTYGOOD, hot and a HUGE! I ONLY ate half of it and was able to save the rest for later! It could have used more cheese and onions but the flavor was on point so I can’t really complain too much! My co-eaters both enjoyed their chicken which by the way is a combo and comes with a side of potato salad, mac salad or backed beans and some GI-NORMOUS wedged fries! And it wasn’t all nasty and grease-a-fied like it was going to clog your arteries going down your throat. They certainly DIDNOT complain and gobbled up their meals! The service was SPOTON which is usually the case in the small family owned business! They just seem to care more than the chains who can’t even muster up enough energy to welcome you as you walk in! You’ll FO-SHO get the royal treatment here and they remember you to boot when you come back to visit! Another perk of small businesses! When I was ready to go I went up and asked for a small bag for the other half of my sand and they gave me a sheet of sandwich paper to wrap it in as well so the innerds of my sand didn’t come flying out inside the bag. GREAT service from beginning to end!

Five stars for their service!!! This place could be so awesome if they weren’t located in a really invisible location were construction is being done. However, people living in the apartments will probably go here often because it’s super close, has a variety of food, and is cheap! It’s sort of a mom and pop shop. The owners are soooo sweet! They give good suggestions and they’re SUPER nice to everyone who comes in. It’s mostly a sandwich place so I got a tuna sandwich. They do not skimp out on ingredients so I had a lot of tuna in mine which is great! My friend got a philly cheese steak and that one was also a pretty great portion. The only thing I would kind of wish is that they had more vegetarian options! They have plenty of seafood options though so that worked for me since I love seafood and eat specially cut meat. They also have sushi and some other sides that are not on their menu but on their specials menu on the side. I want to try the mozzarella sticks and sushi so I’m def coming back! But I highly recommend getting the sandwiches.

Broasted chicken with cajun seasoning and chicken cashew chicken on squaw bread. That’s my usual order. The owners are really nice and friendly. Their family combos come with broasted potatoes and one side. I haven’t tried their other sides, but the coleslaw is not bad. The cashew chicken is really good. So it’s good to go in a group and share. On my last visit about a week ago I found out that they are closed on Sundays now. Too bad, I use to order from them on Sundays during football season when I watched the games with friends. Maybe they will change their mind just for football season. But all jokes aside. Come here to get your chicken fix. Better than fried chicken. Good food and great service.

Very delicious chicken! I have had the broasted chicken as well as the chicken sandwich. The broasted chicken was juicy and flavorful, and not too greasy or heavy. The chicken breast sandwich is a wonderful alternative when you don’t feel like getting your fingers seasoned or when you feel like eating a little lighter. 18 pieces for about $ 31. They allowed me to split half original and half cajun seasoning. The cajun was great! I would go with it next time. The potatoes that came with it were good, really hot and fresh as well. Salty with all that seasoning. Comes with side of macaroni or potato salad or baked beans. The potato salad SUCKED. Also, at 6PM on a weekday the wait time sucked, too. It was probably nearly a 30 minute wait for our order. I’d go back if I phoned in an order.

I love love love the chicken at Huckleberry’s. I am a chicken fanatic and have become a bit obsessed with the broasted style chicken especially. After finding a place in Los Alamitos that I absolutely love, I have been on a never ending search for more places like it. Enter Huckleberry’s who can give that place a serious run for their money and best part is they are opened on Sundays when my other chicken place is not. First and foremost I want to say that the service provided here by the lady at the counter is exceptional and she really cares about the customers and ensuring that they liked their meal. The gentleman who handles the chicken always strives to make sure it is cooked to perfection. Please note that like other similar places the chicken is cooked to order and does require around a 15 minute wait but rest assured it is worth the wait. The prices are good and the lunch special is an especially good value at around $ 8 that also comes with 2 pieces of chicken(your choice of original, lemon pepper or cajun), broasted potatoes, a side dish, a roll and a drink. The chicken comes in a variety of flavors but I have only tried the Cajun to this point and it is amazing with just a touch of heat added to the mixture. The chicken comes out hot and fresh with a great outer skin and moist and tender chicken throughout. The sides are pretty generic and taste store bought(at least the macaroni salad does) but the chicken is where they really shine. Huckleberry’s also offers an array of deli sandwiches and even sushi rolls but neither I, nor my wife have delved into that portion of the menu. The place is relatively clean and not typically too busy during our visits. They have plenty of seating, a restroom for guests and a television that cuts in and out but that’s just part of the charm of the place. I really do leave here full and happy with each visit and cannot find too many major flaws in the food or business. The only reason I have not given them a 5 star rating is the lack of seasoning on some of the potatoes. Despite the broasted potatoes being perfectly cooked they are often lacking in seasoning overall. The broasted potatoes served here are basically quarter cut chunks sprinkled with seasoning salts and spices but during my last couple of visits the majority had very little seasoning that left then tasting far too plain. I also prefer the sliced mojo style potatoes served at another broasted chicken place better overall but these are still good, just a bit inconsistent. If you love broasted chicken and haven’t checked this place out then what are you waiting for. Come on down and try some of the best broasted chicken you will ever eat. I will be back again soon!

A great find thanks to hubs and Unilocal. We had been over here several times to see their neighboring businesses, but had never made our way in here. Considering the broasted chicken place that we already love is closed on Sundays, and we always think about having it on Sundays, we decided to try a new place that IS open on Sundays. We both ended up getting the two piece chicken special. This included two pieces of chicken, potatoes, a roll, a side, and a drink for $ 7.29. They offered the chicken in Cajun, lemon pepper, and original. There may have been another option but I honestly forgot. I was focused on lemon pepper, so that is what I got. My husband got the Cajun. When you come to order broasted chicken at these places, they are cooked to order, so be prepared to wait about fifteen minutes, or call it ahead of time. Our meals came out piping hot, perfect and as it should be. The chicken was cooked to perfection in my opinion, and the flavor was delicious! I always get the original flavor at our other spot, so I may have to try their lemon pepper as well. We almost asked to see if they had butter for the roll, but even the roll was delicious without anything added. The potatoes were cooked to perfection as well, and just as hot. Even the baked beans that I chose as my side was delicious, and those were probably store bought. At least we assume it with the macaroni salad and potato salad. My husband had the macaroni salad as his side and assumed that although it was good that it probably was. I personally think it was a steal for the price, and not to mention fresh. They also have a ton of sandwich options. I will have to go back soon and try one of those out! Friendly staff, delicious food, at affordable prices. We will definitely be back.
