Now this is going to look fishy… Bc I get it I was very anxious and nervous after I found mike from his pics on Craigslist. He uses the site for advertising… (all very legit bc he is no longer a «store» or a business.) It worked bc we all prefer an actual professional, just not a salesman pushing bikes for profit without caring about the customer. Text or email or call him first during normal business hours, he will assess what you want and the size you may need based on your height.
When I got there he was such a nice welcoming person, and had the bikes I was l interested in and others he thought would work well waiting out front. He kept pushing me to ride around and try as many as I wanted to get comfy …
He asked my budget… And being a New Yorker I was skeptical bc you never tell anyone your real budget… But he was like well you can try this one which is way under your budget, or another one that’s more expensive … Up to you!
Showed me how to add air … And loaded it on my trunk. Done and done within 45 minutes… (and he really didn’t rush me at all).
I don’t know what the future holds with my new bike and I, but what’s key for me is respect and customer service. What I paid for my bike was worth that!
Anyway I’ll stop … Just try it ! Old school well made light bikes from the 80’s. I got a a really cute black Trek. Spent half my budget!!:)

Under normal circumstances I would give Mike a 5 star rating as I have been dealing with him for all my bicycle needs for more than 20 years and any time I had anything relating to my bicycles my husband and I went to Mike. After a few years had passed I returned to his shop to make another purchase of a bicycle for my son. He asked about my husband and i told him he had passed away and we smiled and talked about how many times we had all agonized over special gears, and sizes and mountain vs road bikes, special tires-​all the things we do as serious riders. So i was there to purchase a bike for my son and we bought one and he is very happy with it. Shortly after that we returned and we purchased another bike-​same son– to have here in HB for him to ride when he is here (He lives in Simi Valley) and we bought a TREK XCaliber 6 with all the extras. That bicycle has not been ridden at all as we also bought a bike rack and it is being used to transport the first bike to HB when my son comes to visit., So I turned to Mike to see what my options are – could he take it as a trade in for another family member? Could he let me know what extras I have? Can he help in any way? And all I got was a comment that he does not deal in used bikes and I am on my own if I want to sell it – no offer to take a look at it and let me know anything about it or any offer of assistance in any way. I read his reviews and he is super wonderful when we are there to buy, but what happened to the Mike who used to be the go to guy with any bicycle questions? I guess he changed because he sure isn’t the Mike I thought I knew.

I bought a wonderful 1970’s Nishiki from Mike back in 2010. It was a great companion up until 2 days ago when it was stolen. Writing this review almost 5 years after purchasing it, is part of my grieving process right now. I will probably get another bike from Mike soon even though I live in NorCal now.
Enough with the sob story. Mike is awesome, helpful, honest, patient and passionate about bicycles.

Great shop after looking for a couple of weeks for a bike found this place online. I decided to make trip to the store glad I did the service there was great they were on the ball. Great shop!!!

Like all the rest of these reviews have pointed out, Mike is just great. Extremely helpful and patient and makes sure that all your biking needs are met. He doesn’t try to screw you and you can see he is passionate about what he does which is great. I highly recommend him to all my family and friends looking to purchase a great bike for a good price. You won’t be disappointed!

Mike is legit. I saw the 5 star reviews on Unilocal about a year ago and went over to find a bike to ride to school.
To start off, Mike definitely paid attention to what I wanted out of a bike and what my budget was. I’m a student (super poor), so I wasn’t able to push past $ 200-​$ 250 for a bike.
When I arrived, Mike pulled out like 3 – 4 bikes for me that were good for my size. He had a pretty sizable inventory (take a look at pictures here on Unilocal), and he definitely knew what he was talking about. He let me ride around the block a few times with each bike he pulled, and didn’t pressure me at all. The bikes that I looked at were a little older (steel frames), but they were all solid mechanically.
Just in case you were wondering too, I ended up asking Mike how he finds so many bikes. He said that he has people who go out to estate sales, garage sales, and other places to find decent bikes for him to tune up and resell. Good deal.
Well after riding around a bit and getting lost once in the industrial complex that he’s located in, I bought a $ 200 bike that he had just discounted recently. I rode that bike for a while and had absolutely no problems, but unfortunately had to sell the bike a few months ago :-(.
So, if you’re looking for a nice used bike and don’t want to spend your weekend scouring the dregs of Craigslist for poorly written ads with no pictures, then come out here. The prices are more than reasonable, and Mike will take good care of you!

SPARK NOTES: Overall, Mike was AMAZING. I’d definitely come here again. He didn’t rush me or anything. He knows his bikes, and he cuts it to you straight. He’s not out to rip anyone, nor is he mean in any way. He’s so nice, so genuine.
I’ve been using this old bike that I bought off craig’s list that had a pedal fall off. Needless to say, I had no idea how to fix it and let that thing sit all lonesome in my garage. What’s more was that bike was too damn tall for me — I’d have to take continuous routes just to avoid hopping off the bike to avoid injury. So when my friend told me about Mike and his awesome collection of vintage road bikes for an affordable price, I figured, what the hell — let’s find a new bike and maybe get rid of my old bike??? Wishful thinking? Perhaps.
I called Mike like what most people suggest and he was so cordial over the phone — we agreed to meet at his location on Friday to check out bikes. He asked me how tall I was to get a feel for what size bikes would fit for me. I also told him about my situation about my bike that needed a home and asked if he’d do a trade in since his site had that as a FAQs. He said he’d definitely take a look at it and recommended that I take it in.
So I load up my old bike in my danky Corolla with my bf doing most of the brunt work and we headed over to Mike’s. We had no trouble finding his location as it’s this storage unit that has TONS of bikes inside. When we walked in, Mike was all smiles and UBER awesome the entire time. Before looking at any bikes, he asked to take a look at my vintage kid. I opened up my trunk and he took a look at my bike and was all «wow, what an oldie!» He told me my bike was suited for someone 5’10 (note: I’m 5’4″ on a good day!) and said I needed a shorter bike — agreed! He told me that my bike was a 60s bike from back in the day and said my best bet was to sell it off craigslist. When I told him that my biggest issue was the broken foot pedal, he offered me a deal to fix it for me for free if I bought a bike, or sell it to me for 5 $ if I didn’t get a bike. Seemed like a deal!
I looked at all the bikes he had selected after telling him my budget. He was very reasonable and picked out tons of bikes that were my size and asked me to try them around. I loved the first one he picked out — it rode so well. You couldn’t even tell that it was an oldie. Mike pulled out 5 other bikes, but I kept coming back to the first. It eventually came down to two bikes that I rode alternating back and forth like some maniac around the lot. Mike was patient the entire time, letting me ride and ride and ride. He even offered my bf an extra bike to ride alongside with me. Too bad my bf’s a mountain biker — eww. Anyways, when I finally came around to choosing the one and happily had Mike help me fit two road bikes into my little car — it was amazing. Like jenga or something. Before fitting the two bikes into the car, he showed me how to change gears on my bike, how to take apart my bike, and gave me adaptors for me to pump my tires. Afterwards, Mike fixed the pedal issue on my old bike no charge.

Mike is such a great guy. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to work within a presented budget. Called ahead to make sure that he was going to be there when we were. He is genuinely concerned for safety, especially with bike size. He lets you ride around the parking lot with as many bikes as you want for as long as you want to make sure the bike fits the rider. I was hoping to trade in an old bike to him, but he advised that the bike could probably be sold for more on the open market. Guess we’ll see if that holds true!
Location is in a storage-​looking complex with plenty of parking and room to ride. Prices for bikes are really competitive and flexible (within reason). One of my buddies (who bought his bike from Mike and has been riding it for 3 years now) referred us to Mike and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Mike is easily one of nicest people I have ever met. He’s truly passionate about bikes, and will do everything he can to get you the bike that suits you best.
My girlfriend and I came in for a 48 Nishiki, and right when we inquired about it, he told us my girlfriend was too tall for it. He let her try it out first, and in the meantime brought out a bunch of bikes within the same price range that he felt would suit her better. He made adjustments on each bike to make sure it fit her right.
It wasn’t until she tried a 50 something Univega where she felt completely comfortable. By the way she was smiling while we were riding down the street, I could tell this was the bike for her.
Mike did not rush us at all. He wanted to make sure we were informed, comfortable, and happy with a bike before anything else.
Sure the bikes are a bit overpriced than you would find for one on craigslist, but you pay that extra for the best service I’ve ever had ANYWHERE.
I paid 200 bucks for my Univega which isn’t a bad price at all for the condition it was in (think pristine friends). However, after so many rides, I had to replace a couple of things, and without a tune, I have spent way more than what my girlfriend spent.
So please, before you go anywhere to pick up a road bike, visit Mike first. He’s that damn cool. He was even kind enough to offer to make adjustments and tune my bike after I told him the problems I have been having… too bad I didn’t have it with me!

This shop has a very nice selection of vintage road bikes. So if you are looking to try road biking, or you’re like me, looking to buy a 2^nd road bike to use for commuting, this should be your first stop. I’ve looked around at local swap meets, but the bikes I found were in sketchy condition, and possibly stolen.
Prices are quite reasonable. Sure, you could snag a comparable bike on craigslist for cheaper, but you have to have a very good knowledge of road bikes in order to ensure you aren’t being ripped off, as there are many concerns and possible issues a vintage road bike can have.
When you’re buying from this store, you have the reassurance of knowing you’re getting a clean bike in good mechanical condition.
My only complaint is that it’s not setup like a regular full time store where you can drop by and browse all the bikes. But the owner still gives good service and is helpful.

I AM SO HAPPY I WENT TO HB BIKE SHOP!!! I came in to see a specific bike, but with so many to choose from, I had to try more. The one I came for wasn’t a perfect fit, so Mike pulled some for me to try, and found the perfect fit! Incredible bike, great condition, great price!
And service was excellent! Mike was friendly, knows his bikes, and kept me in my price range. I’ve already told my brother and two of his friends about this place. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a road bike.

Found this place off craigslist and decided to email Mike. I set-​up/​asked when he was available at the shop and drove down there to look at a bike. At first he forgot about the bike I wanted to look at but helped me out with the large selection he had.
He is very knowledgeable and pretty down to earth on stuff. If you’re on a budget, let him know so he can bring out a few bikes for you to test out. It was pretty cool knowing that you can ride a few bikes around the block before picking what you really want.
Anyways I ended up buying something else than what I came for. Perfect 5 for everything and he’ll offer advice on other things such as safety and how to protect your bike from theft.

This is an awesome spot in Orange County if you want to buy a bike and don’t want to deal with the hassle of Craigslist. Of course there is the option of buying new, but who the heck are you, Lance Armstrong?
Don’t let the web site fool you — Mike has a much larger inventory than he has put online. So many sizes, colors, brands. All you have to do is call in ahead of time and you’re set for an appointment! I was buying my first adult bike ever and had never been sized, didn’t really know anything and Mike must have brought out and adjusted a dozen bikes for me. Although each bike suited me better than the last so he did an awesome job suiting my needs. The only drawback is that I was so excited to ride my bike the day I got it I rode it as it was adjusted — the seat was back so far that the front bars of the seat post ripped a hole in the back of my jeans and were catching on the fabric and my skin the whole time. Ouch! I don’t think I needed the saddle back that far on a 58.
Selection and customer service are great for a fair price. I think I could pretty much guarantee you will find something that fits your needs at HB Bike Shop.

I had such an incredible experience here. Mike had so many bikes to choose from, and in the end I didn’t even buy the one I came to see. He pulled out close to 20 bikes for me to ride based on my size, need and budget and I left with the PERFECT bike.

Mike is an awesome guy and the bike selection here is pretty big! I was looking for a bike for forever on craigslist and i just wasn’t confident in buying a bike off there because i had no bike knowledge at all. I was scared that i might get ripped off because of my lack of knowledge on bikes. I just wanted a good bike for a fair price.
That’s what Mike is gonna give you at this place. Fair priced bikes that are taken care of really well. He’s a really friendly guy who will educate you up on these bikes. Things like quick release, gears, etc, etc.
Just make sure to call ahead of time. Awesome guy, awesome place!

If you’re scanning Craigslist for used road bikes in your size and for the right price, I highly recommend you come here first. This is a great place to find a starter bike, if you just want to test out road cycling and see if you can keep it up. There’s no need to shell out $ 400+ for a new road bike when a great and well maintained 80’s bike can be just as good (if not better).
Mike has a HUGE inventory (50+ bikes) and a wide range of sizes and lengths, so you can try out tons of different bikes here and find out what suits you. Expect to pay about ~$ 200, $ 300 for a better model, and all of his bikes will run as smooth as silk. Even if you get a lower initial price on Craigslist, you’ll likely have to pay to fix it up (brakes, brake cables, shifter cables, chain, bar tape) and bring it up to quality.
He’s knowledgeable enough about proper fitting, so he can easily help you with that. Also, he’s pretty good at fixing bikes up and maintaining them, I’ll likely take my Nishiki to him for a tune up and repairs when the time comes. He’ll even teach you how he fixes certain problems (chain rubbing on front dérailleur, etc) so you can do it yourself if you wanna learn.
Like other reviews have said, Mike is super nice, he’ll let you take the bike out for a ride around the block, and he’ll even give your +1 a road bike to test ride along with you. Make sure to give him a call so he knows your coming and he’ll be there.

… no but seriously don’t Mike the owner is awesome and couldn’t have made my puchasing experience any better. He has so many options and let’s you try each bike over and over untill you find what’s best for you. Instead of someone else telling you what kind of bike you need. He gave me a great price and a beautiful bike. I took the bus there and my bus was running late and he even offered to pick me up from the bus stop.

I’ve been biking all my life. Since I can remember. I love cycling. Unfortunately, in the last decade, bike prices have shot up drastically. Maybe its due to the gas prices, cost of automobiles, travel, who knows. But bikes should not cost an arm and a leg. Then how would you ride!
Its a business suite with a garage out back that’s got shelves full of what seems to be vintage 70’s and 80’s road bikes. Old steelies with downtube shifters. The price range is actually pretty decent. They start from about 150 and go up to 300 ish for the slightly better ones. (lighter, shifters up top, etc)
I refer all my buddies who wanna get a bike to Mikes shop. You should call/​txt in before you head over to make sure he’s there. Oh and bring cash, might get a discount ;)
