How many times have you felt taken advantage of by a mechanic? No need to cross your fingers any longer. You and your car need look no further for the best repair and maintenance shop in Huntington Beach. Chris and Frank always give honest advice on how to keep your car the one dependable thing in your life. They are honest, reliable, thorough and as close to a BFF you’ll ever find in the confusing world of automobile anything. Someone raised these guys right and now they bring it to work with them every day and pass it along to their clients.

Trust them to accurately diagnose my car and not screw me over on pricing (I’m a girl). They just did a great job on my a/​c. I’ll be bringing my car back and referring friends. I do some work myself and they’ll even check your work for you (not sure how much they charge I haven’t done that yet).

I have had my cars serviced here for a while now. I was recommended to HB Auto & A/​C by another mechanic and I am very happy I was. Frank and Chris go out of their way to provided service that is beyond any I have had in the past, and are easy to work with. They keep me up to date with phone calls and are always available to spend time with you to explain everything in detail.
I feel their repair cost are reasonable and fair. I have never felt like I have been ripped off or taken advantage of by HB Auto & A/​C and I have some comparisons of similar work from different mechanics to gauge this opinion.

If you’re looking for a trust worthy mechanics who will do their best to diagnose and fix the problem in your car. Look no further– Frank & Chris are the two to talk to. They both are very well experienced and do not waste time in helping you solve the issue with your vehicle. They helped fix the brakes and rotors; as well as remedy the leaking to both cylinders to my friend’s silver Honda Del Sol!
I also took in my daily driver to them for a potential head-​gasket issue; and boy, did they save me a small fortune! Car is now been running for 2 solid straight weeks with 100 degree temps outside last weekend and this weekend! Zero over-​heating issues and power loses are now completely gone. I can now run my AC on full blast without having to worry about blowing that stupid head-​gasket! Frank and Chris are so attentive! They take great care of my car, and if I never need to get my car in, they always work around my schedule and deliver my car back to me in great condition and on-​time. Some of the best people skills you will find in business. And they are affordable and thorough when it comes to servicing my car.

I’ve never been disappointed with chris and his team. He gets everything done at the best price possible. I’ve had major work (rebuilt engine) to small work (oil change) and HB Auto are the only guys I trust in OC. And I’ve been to a lot of different mechanics.

Really bummed with my very quick experience here at hb auto, when I had heard such great things. Brother recommended them so I Came in asking for an oil change and whoever the dude was said it would cost 60 $ and when I questioned him he said it’s because he’s going to do a full inspection. When I told him that wasn’t necessary and that I just wanted a change he just looked at me and said «go to jiffy lube.» I took this as very damn rude so I will not be returning.

I have been bringing my Tacoma here for years. Tires, brakes, oil changes etc have all been performed with honesty, professionalism and expertise. Frank and Chris always explain what is going to be completed and never try to up sell. Work is completed in a timely manner and I enjoy talking to the staff about cars and whatever else to pass the time. If you don’t feel like talking the waiting room and counter area is large and clean. I recently drove up from Mission Viejo to have all brakes and drums replaced. Service was great and price was fair. I highly recommend HB Auto with you want expert work completed by honest staff.

This is the only place I will take my car for any routine maintenance or repair. They are simply the best at what they do, and genuine in their care for their customer and the cars.

I brought my truck here a month or so ago for a freon (a/​c) recharge advertised online for $ 30. They said there was a leak in the system so they changed some «cheap parts» (that didn’t need to be changed) to try and resolve the problem. With parts and labor I ended up spending well over $ 100. Then shortly after they showed me what was really leaking, it was my condenser… They could have been honest and showed me this leak from the beginning but they didnt. They pulled out a tool that beeps when it detects the leaking freon and it was obvious it was coming from the bottom side of my condenser (you could see it). They quoted me $ 750 for the new part ($ 150 part) with labor and a recharge, but only if i came back with in two weeks, any longer and i wouldnt receive the «discount». After being charged over $ 100 for their advertised $ 30 recharge and some parts I didn’t need, I sensed some shadyness… so I took it to another place that a friend recommended and got everything fixed for only $ 400 with a 5 year warranty! Bottom line is, I would have spent about $ 900 total (double the price) if I wouldnt have checked around. Don’t trust this place they’re crooks!

Finding an honest, reliable, friendly mechanic is harder then you think, especially for a women. I think most mechanics see a female and automatically hike the price up 25% finding all sorts of stuff that needs to be fixed.
So when I found Mike, I stuck with him like a burr until he decided to marry a women who lives up north in San Francisco, leaving ME without a mechanic and of course, the timing was perfect because my car started making «funny» noises!
In July 2014, my car died in front of a mechanic shop that is owned by a fellow chamber of commerce member in Signal Hill. I took it as a sign and had them fix my car. I believed them when they said they were going to «take good care» of me. They did by over charging me about $ 300 (and that is supposedly with the Chamber member discount). lol.
The Universe Provides…
So I put it out there in the universe that I needed a new mechanic and one of my dear friends highly referred me to Frank and HB Auto & AC.
I called and made an appointment. My hands were shaking as I drove up but my bank account was having seizers. I was a bit afraid having been just recently abused by a fellow chamber member (which I am no longer a member of the chamber).
Warm and Friendly.
OMG it was like going to dad and saying my car is making funny noises. Frank took very good care of me. They were caring, knowledgeable and have gotten my car ready for its journey home to Burning man!
I brought my car to them 3 times. First visit: To check over what the other mechanic in Signal Hill did. Frank looked at my vacuum hose and dabbed some silver/​gray gook on it and said done. His dabbing and gook saved me $ 342 (what the other mechanic in Signal Hill was going to charge me).
Wow…
Second Visit: Was to go through my Ford Escape with a fine tooth comb and find anything else that was wrong with it. In less than a month I will be traveling about 500 miles to burning man and the last thing I want is to do is break down either way (going or leaving).
Frank made a list of what needs to be done NOW before the trip and what can be done later, and what needs to be done in the next 6 months for maintenance, etc.
I was very impressed with how friendly, warm and caring he was!
Third Visit: I knew in advance this was going to be a whole day affair. HB Auto is very close to the Huntington Beach Park. So I dropped off my car in the morning on Thursday, July 23^rd. It was the first time I met Chris who was also very friendly and professional.
I spent the day in the park, having breakfast at Park Bench Restaurant and thoroughly enjoying myself as Frank and Chris worked on my car.
They offered to drive me to where ever I wanted to be and if I got bored at the park to just call. I love the park; therefore, I chose to walk and read under a big tree and thoroughly enjoy myself.
I walked back to the shop and Frank said «Why didn’t you call. We would have picked you up.» He seemed hurt that I chose to walk. That is a wow.
Usually mechanics don’t care. Usually they find it a burden to provide transportation to their clients.
Frank closes his shop at 5pm, but stayed til 6:20 pm finishing my vehicle. WOW! I was very impressed. Frank even provided me with a snack (Trader Joe’s mixed nuts with chocolate pieces) as I waited.
wow… again! I felt safe, secure and well cared for. Ladies I HIGHLY RECCOMEND Frank and Chris. Just the sense of security they brought is well worth the drive for me.
Price…
I discussed with Frank what I had budgeted for repairs for my trip and he agreed! The prices are reasonable and fair. I was so very impressed with Frank and how well he cared for both me and my car.
Busy…
When I was at the shop waiting for my car (4:30 pm til 6:30 pm) so many customers drove in and said Frank next week can you… Frank thank you for… Frank and Chris I referred…

This is a VERY BUSY shop and you know its VERY BUSY but do not feel it. They treat you like welcomed friends and family. They treat you with warmth and care! They treat you honestly, as a fellow human being.
Crazy Glue…
I am going to stick to HB Auto like crazy glue. I tried being a burr before with Mike and you see how well that worked out. Happily Frank and Chris are married (not to each other, but I am sure their wives are beautiful and amazing to compliment two very honorable gentleman)!
So this time I am using Crazy Glue… it comes with a guarantee!

I’ve taken my car in to HB Auto & AC a few times for my car and my parents have taken theirs in a few times. While I was originally referred to them by a family member of HB Auto, I thought, I would just give them a try while thinking family members will usually pump up the service kudos, etc. Well, I have found them to be legit. They have been very professional, financially understanding, and patient with my lack of car knowledge in technical terms. They take the time to explain what is wrong, what needs to be done, and how they are going to fix it. They don’t pressure into fixing something or throw out the «scare’ tactic.
I am very happy with their service and very graciously refer them to anyone and everyone needing a mechanic.

I was in Huntington Beach and I had an issue with my car, I started calling places I found on my phone to get my car worked on. I called numerous auto repair places in the area and no one would give me the time of day, I needed the work done quick but I didn’t want to get ripped off, I think my 3^rd or 4^th call was to HB Auto & AC, right away I felt they cared about me and wanted to help me get out of this bad situation I was in. The owner Chris, got on the phone and from the start was trying to help me over the phone without even charging me anything or trying to get me to his place. I knew I was in great hands and felt I could trust him if I went to his location. Needles to say I ended up at HB Auto and had a great experience, not only did they repair my car really quick but they didn’t over charge me. The employees were all very helpful and the owner himself went out of his way to make sure I was taken care off. I don’t live in H. B but will be willing to drive the 30 – 45 minutes to get that type of service and affordable prices. If you live in H. B or surrounding areas and need any work on your car this should be your first call, you wont regret it. BTW they have special promos all the time, just look them up on line under their name.

OMG! An honest auto repair shop! They do great work for a reasonable price. They will tell you if something can wait. They have even repaired a tire with a nail in it for us at no charge. I would recommend them to anyone.

Over the period of years I’ve had many cars. At sometime or another they needed repairs. Now that I am a retired senior with a fixed income, I have had to watch my budget very carefully. I now have a very old car, 21 years old. these last couple of years I’ve needed repairs. I would get estimates on the repairs, WOW! Ive had to wait a couple of months to raise the money. Then I found these guys. Chris is the owner. I had him work on my cars when he was at Bolsa Radiator Repair. My car needed repairs and they helped me financially with terms that I could afford. My old car is running great! Frank also helped me buy a battery and tires at a cheaper price. If it weren’t for them I’d be walking. My wife was already thinking that I might have to buy another car.
To my many older citizens I highly recommend this place. Their motto «it isn’t always about money, its about customer relationships.»

I recently changed mechanics and found HB Auto & AC.
I have submitted 4 cars into their shop in the last 12 months, incurring costs of over $ 6,000.00. I can say that every diagnosis they made was correct, the estimate for the job has never been exceeded by the final bill, and every job has been the final solution every time.
All you can ask from a mechanic is honesty and communication. Frank has provided both at a professional level, consistently.
Here is my testimonial:
The first car I brought in was a BMW, 1998 328i. Registration was up, I needed to submit it for a smog check, but the check engine light was on. Frank ran the code and notified me that it was the VVMOS unit that was malfunctioning. At that time he communicated that when they remove the valve cover, I may also need to replace the solenoid – which ended up being the case.
Before Frank installed the new solenoid, he invited me into the shop. When I arrived, he had the gasket cover removed and the new VVMOS installed with the original solenoid. He then started the engine and showed me that the code was still appearing due to a faulty solenoid.
Ever since this exercise of communication and honesty, I have taken Frank at his word. The repair for the BMW was exactly what he quoted me before I gave him the keys.
My most recent experience with HB Auto and AC is the greatest testament to their graciousness, ethic and quality of service.
I own a 1981 Toyota 4×4. It is completely customized and there is very little left that is the same as it was when it came off the line. My friend and I had been attempting to restore it the best we could. However, after completely disassembling the front axle, leaving only the axle housing and suspension, my friend’s mother became ill.
I had the truck towed to HB Auto and AC, missing a front axle and the cooling/​intake disassembled from the motor. Just to provide a visual: we are talking over 200 miscellaneous parts in boxes that were not labeled, organized or with instructions; some new, some old.
Frank was very fair with me, communicating from the beginning that he didn’t know how to charge for a project like this, nor has he ever handled this vehicle with so many modifications.
At every turn, Frank has taken my calls, invited me in to see the progress and been up-​front and honest with me about the labor charges and missing parts. He has told me that there would be delays because he refused to re-​assemble anything without the correct torque specifications and/​or factory instructions. Diligence that I’m positive will pay off 5 to 10 years from now when I am climbing a rock in the middle of nowhere.
There are just very few mechanics around that you can throw this type of project to, that can handle it and be as fair as Frank has been with me. I am very appreciative of them for even taking this on and I am confident in the work that they have done.
The Mechanic they assigned to my project, Andrew, has even taken the time to entertain my stupid questions while he is supposed to be working on other assignments.
Again, I would recommend this shop to anybody. Based on the gamut of jobs they have done for me, I can assert that there isn’t anything these guys can’t handle.

Used to love this place,
Frank and Chris had been taking care of my scion TC for close to a year and a half, and the first time was super cheap, so they got me hooked. I went back, I wanna say 7 more times, and they had been more than descent to deal with and I loved using their service. Then I went in last June because my car was making a weird reving noise and something sounded clearly wrong. I told Frank hey i don’t know what this is but its worrying me can you check it out he said sure. I comeback to pick up my car as I was contacted by Frank to do so. Franks gone and one of the guys charges me and gives me my keys, I get in my car and notice that the sound is still there. I think hey I don’t know a whole heck of a lot about cars but they wouldn’t not look at the exact thing that I brought my car in for, that would be extremely unsafe. (They always taken my car on test drives to make sure everything is working correctly.) Anyways its the next day and I’m picking my friend up from work and we are about to go through a pretty busy intersection and all of a sudden my car’s power steering starts shutting down, and the engine is reving inconsistently, and I’m now slowing down at an alarming and unsafe speed for the traffic behind me, and end up broken down in the middle to the intersection (mind you a day after taking my car into HB AC/​AUTO) my friend and I manage to push the car into a parking lot and call a tow. I get my car towed to Pep Boys where they tell me that my alternator went out like three days ago and my car has just been sucking electricity from my battery and that was the noise. It just left the worst taste in my mouth. I left a message with HB AC/​AUTO and they called me back the next day but by then I had time to think of all the terrible and dangerous positions that they overlooking my alternator could have left me in and I realized you really get what you pay for with them.
