Comprehensive Ear Nose and Throat- Nghia X. Nguyen, MD

I agree with other reviewers regarding the poor customer service here. Like everyone else I called to make an appointment for a new consult. I know they’re part of the Blue Shield of CA network. But when I told the receptionist I have Blue Shield PPO. She snidely remarked, «Oh you have Obamacare». I said no I have Blue Shield PPO. This exchange went on a few more times until I got tired and asked how much it would cost for a new consult. She said it depends on your insurance. I decided to call a second time and was able to get a different receptionist. I found out it costs $ 120 for a new consult. No thanks.

I got a bad case of vertigo, didn’t know what was going on, I freaked out. Went to see Dr Nghia by someone’s recommendation. With appointment, I waited no longer than 10 minutes, the receptionist was very nice. Dr. Nghia was very nice. He determined my cause of vertigo right away and gave me a comprehensive ear exam since my right ear always bugs me with ringing noise (yeah, I blame it on old age). I followed his advices and prescription, vertigo is gone and ear is much better now. Highly recommend Dr. Nghia, I can’t say enough how lucky I found him!!! Thank you Dr. Nghia, you’re awesome!

Extremely rude receptionist. As a new patient I would think being yelled at should not be on the customer service list.
Decided not to make appointment solely based on that.

My rating and review is based solely on a call I had to make an appointment.
I have always had problems with my left ear and had a doctor in Arizona where I grew up. I’ve been living in California for a few years now but haven’t needed to see a doctor. Today I woke up in severe pain with my left ear having a constant pounding and diminished hearing.
I called the office around 11:15am and asked if they were accepting new patients, took my insurance, and if they by chance had any appointments available for today. The women who answered the phone told me they do accept new patients and my insurance but they couldn’t get me in today. She said they had an appointment for Monday and I told her that I don’t think it could wait and I’m in a lot of pain. She randomly put me on hold and then comes back and just says, «Okay.» And I said, «Okay?»
The best part of this, which is why I’m leaving such a poor review, is she then tells me they can see me today and asked if I lived close by. I told her I live directly across the street and could be there in minutes. So I asked, «Can I give you my insurance information over the phone so it can be verified by the time I get there?» She says yes I can but she doesn’t think it would be verified by the time the appointment was over today and I could come in and see the doctor if I paid cash.
At this point I was beyond frustrated with not feeling good then being told, «No we can’t see you today the doctor is at the hospital.» To «Yes we can see you today but you have to pay cash even though you have insurance.» Had she just taken my information and called my insurance it would have been verified in less than 5 minutes. She acted like it was a huge ordeal to have to verify someone’s insurance so she just wants them to pay cash.
I really wanted to see Dr. Nguyen because of the other Unilocal review and doing research of my own on him. I’m not going to a doctor whose staff is too lazy to verify an insurance and then wants the patients to just pay in cash.

I had a nasty ear infection and I thought it could be treated with antibiotics and an ear flush. Well, that’s what my school heath center did to me… It didn’t go away so I sought out for professional help. I’m really stubborn and usually don’t want to see the doctor unless I’m dying status. Ear infection is pretty painful and annoying and I couldn’t tolerate neither. I found Dr. Nghia Nguyen on google. I read his profile and saw that he had an impressive background and the fact that he went to USC for medical school?! Enough said, I’m going to him. Dr. Nguyen used a machine to suck out all the nasty pus and and sent me home with antibiotics. I saw him 3 times within 2 years for the same problem. He treated the infection, but it came back. This is not his problem, my body is just whack.
I also came to him for a tonsillectomy. I had strep throat and it kept recurring and antibiotics wasn’t effective anymore so, Dr. Nguyen thought it was best to just remove my tonsils. It was one of the best decision I’ve ever made because I feel much better now! Strep throat is really annoying too! Gosh I have way too many health problems. He gave me a discount and charged $ 500 for the procedure since I’m a cash patient ($ 60 for each office visit. Follow-​up is cheaper). But be aware that you’ll have to pay for anesthesia and surgical plaza fee. You’re looking to pay about $ 3k for this common surgery. FYI the recovery for a tonsillectomy is the most painful of pain I’ve ever experienced! Dr. Nghia warned me ahead of time. I thought I could handle it, but after surgery I just wanted to be sedated for a whole week.
Dr.Nghia Nguyen is my man! He’s affiliated with Fountain Valley Hospital and has authorization to use Newport Surgical Plaza for outpatient surgery. Jeannie, his administrative staff is super awesome. She’s really friendly, funny, and welcoming. I think every doctor should have a Jeannie working for him or her. She’s really professional, organized with all the paper work and remember the patients! After my follow up, he said he didn’t want to see me back in his office. I like a doctor with a good sense of humor. It’s been 2 years, I haven’t seen him because I’m all fixed up :) I trust his work and highly recommend him.
