History

Established in 1989.

Dr. Joel Nathanson graduated from Columbia University in 1978 and received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. He served in the US Army Dental Corps for three years.

Since 1985, Dr. Nathanson has been practicing restorative, cosmetic and preventive dental care in the Baltimore area. During that time, he has achieved an impressive number of professional accomplishments. He is the first dentist in Maryland to receive post-​doctoral training at the prestigious Lee Institute for Bioesthetic Dentistry in San Francisco. He was also the first general dentist in Baltimore County to institute Waterlase «No Shot No Drill» dental care in his practice.

In 2007, Dr. Nathanson received the Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry, an international organization comprised of over 35,000 dentists dedicated to improving patient care through continuing education. Fewer than 1% of all practicing dentists ever achieve Mastership in the Academy.

Business Owner

Dr. Nathanson and his wife of 26 years have 3 children. His interests outside of dentistry include music and theatre. A classically-​trained singer, he has performed the National Anthem at Camden Yards and has acted and sung professionally. As a member of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society he has performed with jazz legend Dave Brubeck, as well as with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. He has sung leading roles with the Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore and Oregon Ridge Dinner Theatre, and has also performed in Gilbert & Sullivan operettas with the Hilton Musical Company and the Young Victorian Theatre Company.

Dr. Nathanson has been a featured soloist at Chizuk Amuno Congregation and in the Bach Concert Series at First English Lutheran Church. He has also served as a High-​Holiday Cantor for over 20 years at congregations from New York to Georgia.

In 1987, Dr. Nathanson was a three-​time champion on the nationally-​televised game show Jeopardy!
