Darrell Barrett Salon and Spa

Very disappointed. The place is lovely and spacious. My experience was with a facial. Have u seen that commercial about gym shaming where customers are belittled for their lack of knowledge about all the gym equipment? Well this was skin shaming! The gal, whose name I have fortunately forgotten, went on and on about how bad my skin was. It was so embarrassing. I have no blemishes, blackheads, or oily spots but I do have dry patches. I do not get monthly facials like she suggested the rest of the world does. I think it was all in the effort to upsell me to a higher level of facial with a peel and something else. I was a sucker due to being so embarrassed by her shaming. I will never go back.

My wife recently tried to use a Groupon at Darrell Barrett and Renaissance Salon and had a very dissatisfying experience. She was going to be a new customer since she is shopping for a new hair stylist and came upon a special with Groupon. My wife booked an appointment about a month in advance. When she arrived 15 minutes early for her appointment, she was told that her scheduled appointment had been changed that morning although no one had contacted her to confirm if the change was OK or to let her know about. She was told she would have a new hairstylist, with less experience than the one she had scheduled, or have to wait till the stylist was done with her current customer. My wife expressed her dissatisfaction but agreed to wait an additional while. This was inconvenient for us because our whole family had made plans around the scheduled appointment time.
After waiting 20 or 25 minutes, my wife asked again when her appointment would start and was told that it would start whenever the hairstylist was ready and stylist didn’t make any money anyway from Groupon Deals. My wife was then asked to leave, which she did, on foot, since I had the car. Groupon was very, very cool and credited us for the purchase so that we can spend our money at a salon with better customer service.

A sad ending to a good (short) relationship with this salon. Amanda was my stylist and she left. When calling back for an appointment, I received this news. A young man said that they had another stylist who deals with curly hair and she was «pretty good». Who wants to deal with someone who is «pretty good» when they’re preparing for milestone photos (Bat Mitzvah). He totally shattered my view of this salon and I was terrified to try someone new.

I would like to thank Helen B for giving wonderful nail acrylics. She is Renaissance ‘s loss and Studio 360 ‘s gain. After I found out that Helen had left the salon, I needed a nail appt ASAP as I was leaving on vacation the next day. Asked if Tanya was available and was told she wasn’t. Came to find out that she was. In the meantime, I made an appt with Marlene — BIG
MISTAKE — worst set of acrylics that I ever received — would never RECOMMEND her to anyone. Not would I recoomend Renaissance under its new «format». Such a shame because it has been a great salon.

Was a really nice salon Was a client for 26 years. New management fired all of the stylists and nail techs that were there originally. The spa is not clean — most of the time no toilet paper in the bathrooms. Had my hair washed twice with very cold water. No explanation from management-«just the water heater is broken.» Raised their prices, with no explanation. What a shame. Will never ever go to Renaissance Salon again.

NO Zen here. None. I loved the atmosphere when I walked in the entrance, but I didnt get what I needed and expected in my facial. My esthetician left the annoying light from the magnigfying lamp on the duration of my service, and did not focus on relaxation massage like I requested. When I booked my appointment with the front desk I asked for someone that loves doing the massage part of the facial, usually lasts 20 minutes. That is what I wanted, and needed. I was assured they all are experienced. I dont have problem skin, and I use great products. My Estitician started my service a little late, and ended a little early. She told me she doesnt like doing massage! I could tell right away she wasnt into it. Aw, I was in need of that Aveda facial feeling, candles, slow movement, deep relaxation. She also talked during the service. So did I, but I didnt want to, I went there for a relaxation experience, and left even more upset. It felt like a doctors appoinment! She put a mask on me after her 5 minute massage, enjoyable but WAY to short. She stepped out of the room for at least 15 minutes, I could hardly believe thats what was happening. I actually layed there and got pissed. I thought about getting up, and walking out at that point. Only used 1 hot towel, it was actually just warm. She could have utilized that time in massage, thats what I even asked her for. She obviously didnt want to do the massage. When I went to pay, I asked for the person that booked the appointment to let her know my estitician didnt like giving the massage part. I thought she should know. In the future she can pair clients with the right person. She didnt know my estiticain didnt like massaging. But, assured me on the phone they are all experienced. I was immediately bitter about paying, after being so disappointed in the service I got. I still left a 10 dollar tip. But, I usually leave 20. I can check this place off my list, or onto my «Never again» list. Sigh.

I have been going to the same salon my entire life, until I saw and experienced what Renaissance has to offer! Walking through the door you are greeted by friendly staff and a great calm and relaxing atmosphere. I really think the new ownership has done this Salon a great deal of awesomeness. I would recommend this salon to everyone it really is wonderful and i cant wait to go back!

There are many positive aspects of this spa. As some other reviewers have noted, it is much more spacious than you can imagine when looking at it from the outside. It may be a small thing, but the music is so relaxing and befitting the facility. The staff are polite, always smiling, and genuine in wanting to make you feel comfortable. There are new owners there and you can see how the new philosophy is taking hold.

The worst salon experience ever! I had a Monday appt for hair color… nothing fancy just one color. According to menu on web site, the cost was $ 55. remember that. This was the 1^st Monday that they were open which i suppose explains why there were only 2 people there in this HUGE space. My stylist was new and told me that they were under new management, etc. I only went here because a friend of mine had given me a gift card which i used for a prior haircut and was pleased… different stylist. After much confusion re: color, he applied the product and left me alone in this empty cave for around 4o min. No water, magazine nada. I walked around the corner where he was cutting someone’s hair to remind him I was still there and didn’t want my hair to fry! I told him in the beginning that i have fragile hair that is falling out and brittle. I was pleased with the color and checked out. To my surprise the cost was $ 75! I questioned it and his explanation was that he used special conditioners… BS. I paid it and tipped him, but felt cheated as this was not what was noted on the web site. i understand he is new and needs to make $$, but be real. Don’t effin cheat me. I will NEVER go back! Don’t these people understand that going to a stylist/​salon means that you need to communicate about your needs? No clue. This wanna be spa should be turned into a more useful community business…

couples massage was SO relaxing especially with the Geisha soaking tub before hand. Everyone was very friendly and professional, which made us feel very comfortable. Will definitely be coming back again in the future.

Daniel was great! He was very open, had great suggestions for my hair and face shape. He even made some suggestions for future appointments. Thank you!

This salon is HUGE and ready to host the whole office!

Alyse is an amazing color and stylist… myself, my mom and my sister have been going to her for years. She is very sweet, funny and has a great disposition. I’m shocked at these other reviews because the reception area and the ladies are always very pleasant and professional. The shampoo girls are friendly and the other stylist are always asking if i am comfortable or if i want coffee… etc. I love it here and will keep going back for many years to come… keep up the fantastic work!

I have gone here for about two years and seen the same hair stylist. Recently I went for a trim, and asked for layers to shape my face. I even showed my stylist a photo to be 100% clear on what I wanted. She combed a chunk of my hair in front and literally cut straight across. My hair cut took a total of 4 minutes and then i was «finished». My hair is 100% butchered and It cant be fixed until it grows out. I literally look like I have a mullet and am beyond upset. I even called to let them know how upset I was and she never called me back to apologize. Fuck this place.

I recently went to this nail salon to get a shellac manicure and it was not at all the experience I had expected…
My appointment was set for 5pm and I was a part of a bridal party so I was hanging out with everyone while the person who was scheduled to do my nails was finishing up someone else. I didn’t realize how much time had gone by until I was back in an individual room by myself to have my nails started.
My nails were started at 6pm when the lady asked me where I went before to get my nails done. I told her where I had been and she asked, «Is it Asian?». I said very quietly, «yes». She proceeded to ask me if I had gel or shellac, I told her gel and she cringed knowing it would be difficult to remove. She then went on to tell me she doesn’t know why ‘they’ (Asian) use such harsh polish, she doesn’t know how ‘they’ passed their test and thinks that all of those places smell bad.
She then proceeded to wrap all my nails with acetone and foil to start removing the gel. She left me in a room by myself with a magazine (which was hard to flip through because each nail was wrapped with foil!). Needless to say I was extremely bored. She came back 10 min later and said, ‘oh these still aren’t coming off’, left me for 10 more min and came back again to say, ‘oh we are going to have to soak these in acetone’.
She left me in there for another 10 min or so (so now we are at an hour and half total waiting during this whole process) to soak my nails some more. She came back and they still weren’t coming off so she had to file all of the nail polish off. She then starting to cut and «clean» my nails and was about to start the shellac process when the power went off and did not come back on. Luckily my friend was sitting with me and she was able to put a flashlight on her phone so that the lady could ‘finish’ my nails. She couldn’t finish completely and I wasn’t satisfied with how they looked anyways and they couldn’t take payment.
After leaving the building I looked closer at my nails and noticed there was still red polish left on my nails and thought, «I can’t believe she was going to start shellac when red was still on my nails».
She told me I could come back the next day and she would squeeze me in. I personally never planned on going back so that I could get a horrible nail job and sit there for hours longer. NEVER GOING BACK.

I have been going to Renaissance salon for years along with my mother and aunt. We LOVE the salon for hair, waxing, massages, and manicure/​pedicures. Recently, I had a bad color job at another salon. I called Renaissance in tears and they said, said how soon can you get here! Upon my arrival the ladies at the front desk were sweet and Diana, who fixed my hair was wonderful. She did a beautiful job fixing the orange stripes and awful haircut! She is very professional, friendly, and you can totally tell she is passionate about her job. I will most definitely be back to see her! If I could give Renaissance 10 stars I would!

Mixed review.
1. Waxing services were very good. Yeshi did a good job and was pretty quick.
2. Massage was subpar. She was okay, but just okay. My biggest problem was that I scheduled (and was charged for) a 90 minute massage but only got 60 minutes. After I complained, I was only billed for 60 minutes but the whole reason I scheduled 90 was because I wanted 90!
The whole place is kind of weird… sort of a factory spa. Not very spa like or luxurious, despite their desire to be so.
Also, their website is not very good or professional.
I will go back for waxing but definitely not for anything else!

I’ve been meaning to write this review for some time. I brought my daughter in for a facial and was quoted a price of $ 120.00. Yes, expensive but a treat for my daughter; however, not a treat for my wallet! The tech treated the «T-​zone» and part of my daughter’s back. It was still a 45 minute facial but I was then charged $ 240.00 plus a tip! AND they were supposedly running a special which I could not figure out because of the price? Unlike the other reviewer I found the manager Sharon not to be customer friendly. I footed the bill and decided I’d NEVER go back.

The atmosphere here is great. The receptionists are friendly and welcoming. I feel at home every time I come in. I have been going to Jenn Marie for 10 years now, I highly recommend her. I have never gotten a bad haircut or color as long as I’ve been a client. This place is great

I had the weirdest spa experience here.
I had eye lash tinting with Lana and in the middle of it, while I was sitting there with the paint on my eyelashes, she started EATING!!! CRUNCHING FOOD NEXT TO ME!!! This is no only unprofessional but also unhygienic. I just could not believe it.

Great customer service. I experienced a problem with the behavior of one of the employees and upon reporting it to the management I received a phone call from the owner of the establishment apologizing profusely. She sent me a gift card for free services to make up for my unfortunate experience, and I had a great experience upon my return.

All I ask for in a haircut experience is a friendly person at the front desk and a good stylist. I found neither at this place. Two very catty receptionists and a stylist that just flew in from Uranus. I had to go to a different barber shop for a «repair» of the mess they made. Bottom line: Across the street is a place called Fx Studios which puts Renaissance to shame and for the same price too!
