Humble Area’s First Baptist Church

Really, really like this church. I’ve never attended a Baptist church before and didn’t expect to like this one. We’ve attended a Calvary Chapel for almost 20 years. The music and worship time is a real blessing and I always learn something from the sermons.
My son is in the junior high class. I really like the fact that he meets with a small group of boys.
The Upward sports program is excellent, with caring coaches. It is very well run.
Regarding the 1-​star review, can you say TROLL? Clearly someone with some personal issues.

First I would like to say this review is based solely on the children’s programs which my daughter has been involved in for her 3^rd year now.
Second I would like to say that the previous review is highly inaccurate when he talks about unruly racism. I have watched my daughter go into multi race classrooms taught by multi race teachers and to say that they are in any way racist is beyond me.
My daughter has been attending CDC or the «Mothers Day Out» program since she was 1. I love the fact that they work on basic learning skills with the kids and the class sizes are small enough to where each child gets individual attention. The teachers here are fantastic. I am so happy to say that my daughter’s teacher from last year has now been made director of the children’s programs. Way to go Ms. Janet!!!
This will be my daughters first year attending the AWANAS program that the church offers on Wednesday nights for ages 3 and up. It starts next week but based on the orientation I can gather that it is somewhat of a girl/​boy scouts set up based on the man upstairs. The kids receive badges for reciting bible verses weekly that they put on the little vests (which are too cute).
Like I said. This review is all based on the children’s programs as we are not members of the congregation so I can’t really speak on that. As far as cost goes, I am happy to give to the church for the programs my child is involved with. It takes money for the resources the staff has to come up with and I don’t think that it is too much to ask for help from the families that are involved. I thoroughly enjoy the teachings the church has instilled in my daughter.

If you are anything other than white, this is the worst church to go to. This is the «first» baptist church of humble. First in racism, First in prejudice and those families that are there have raised their children to be the same over the generations. It looks nice on the outside, but when you look closer there are major issues. The bible studies are very «cliquey» and if you ever want to know how a church member feels about you look to their children because they will let you know how genuine the parents are. The pastor is a wonderful man (I never met his wife), but he is at the mercy of the congregation. Praise and worship is fairly decent. There are no opportunities to get deeper into the word and they just skim the surface of biblical knowledge and helping you apply it into your life. You are welcome at the church, but few if any would welcome you into their homes. I am saying this from experience as a former member. I did love the children’s church and the activities for the children, but as a baby Christian this church will abuse you spiritually and emotionally. Just know that it is not God doing the abusing and hang on to love for God and man because this church will have you turned upside down in that area.
Also it is more about the activities than it is about God and this church will nickel and dime you to death having you go to various conferences retreats buying this book and that. No opportunities to help people who are struggling financially. If you need marriage counselling they will refer you to a nice counselor who will charge for his services. God forbid you confide your bible study leader whatever problems you are having, they will put it on email to everyone in the class and have them «pray» for you. Telephone, Telefax… tell a Christian. I am sorry to say this about any house of the Lord, but there it is.
