Gold’s Gym

Where do I begin? As I am writing this it is May 29^th at 10:21 a.m. the doors are not open even though the hours specified that they open at 10 a.m.
Now moments later, abt 10 min, a man in plain gym clothes comes to open the door. He wasnt wearing a uniform and didn’t even address anyone as he opened the door.
This gym is not limited to these kind of antics. Lets talk about the rest of the gym.
Equipment:
Retail grade equipment that is not made for commercial use. Consistently broken machines and the repair lag time is calculated in weeks. It is not uncommon to see equipment inoperable for a month or longer.
Trainers:
Oh hell no. A small handful of the trainers are capable, a very small handful. Most are extremely inexperienced and just don’t care. I see gym newbies just beginning their fitness journey get matched up with novice level trainers and end up doing the most ridiculous exercises.
On top of that the trainers are often checking their phones during training sessions and even dancing in front of client while on the clock. At $ 60 an hour I dont care about watching your c-​walking.
*if you are lookibg for personal training, please be sure to ask questions and compare their client results with a variety of others. Anthony and Paul are the ones who seem to care the most.

Pec deck is CONSTANTLY broken and takes forever to repair. Among other things, there is an increasing amount of machines out of order. Obviously membership is going up with the gym getting much more and more crowded but there seems to be a lack of maintenance and upkeep. Get it together management. The only thing keeping me coming here is the convenience of a short drive.

First of let me say that my wife and I are active duty military. I been in for 10 years and she been in for 7. This has been the worst experience ever with a gym. While I was in the middle of moving we stayed in Houston with family for 30 days. I knew there was a golds gym in Killeen tx because I used to be a member. So we decided to join the golds gym in Humbe tx. And the guy that sold us the membership told us we could use it anywhere around the world. We told him that we would use the one in Killeen TX during the week and the one in Humber tx on the weekend. We even bought personal training and they told us we could use it anywhere. So after we reported to Fort hood we walked into the gym and found out that the gym in Humble lied to our face over and over agin. So I called the gym and asked to talk to the GM. It took me three days to get him to get on the phone, they kept blowing me off because he already knee the issue because the gym in Killeen called and tried to fix it but couldn’t because turned out they were a franchise owner and not corporate. The GM told me he would fix it and he never called me back. He waited till the 30 day period was over and then said oh we can’t do anything now. He even said that he knew his team member was wrong and still did nothing. I never been so disappointed in my life.

The workers are good and friendly. I’m trying to tune up my body. I was told what to work on and how to work on it. It was and always is a pleasure to come in here and get in some good exercises. I recommend you come here and get a good work out.

This people are the best to get you to become a member, once a member and you need to cancel for any reason, this particular Gym is like the mafia. You just can’t get out with out them milking your credit card. This particular location has lots of car braking, lots of car thief’s and management only tells you, they are not responsible. My wife and I try to cancel after that and they still charge my CC for a whopping 9 months of service, without going to the gym. We called the manager after «ABC billing» the company that runs their accounts, told us to call the local mananger Donald at Golds Gym, so he can help canceling account. He put us on the loop of lies and didn’t help at all and gave my wife no options but to pay for months of no service after she submitted the letter they requested in the months during her vandalized at Golds gym parking lot. Please be very careful as far as doing business with this people, corporate office said is a franchise and you have to deal with the gym locally, unfortunately this Donald Mgr, does not care or knows anything about customer service.

I stopped going to this gym because I moved really close to the galleria, but it was a very sad day when I cancelled my membership. I absolutely love this gym!!! Amazing staff, classes, equipment, and overall great gym vibe.
I did have a personal trainer which made coming to the gym a joy. I was able to lose over 35 lbs with his help! Do yourself a favor and sign up for this place!

This gym had wonderful classes and instructors, but my interactions with management influenced this rating. Today’s conversation with the general manager was the tipping point because it sums up my frustration with this Gold’s Gym.
I’ve been a member of this Gold’s for the past four months, and I attend about 4 — 5 times a week. A month ago, I brought a guest with me to try out a class. We were told that she could attend as a guest for 14 days. I expected this. I received the same offer when I was scoping out the gym, and it lead to me joining. Well, today we visited intending to use that pass for the second time and were told it wasn’t on file. Apparently, once a month, the guest passes are thrown out??? When we asked about getting a new pass since hers was only used once, the general manager, Donald Lewis, said «no.» He explained that the visits must be used consecutively. I found this strange because 1). That was never explained to either of us and 2). I had used mine for more than consecutive days. What upset me the most was his response to those points. He told me that I have to keep in mind that they are a business and their objective is to make money. Apparently, if people get 14 free visits, this really hurts this Gold’s bottom line.
This is what disappointed me the most. This mentality of focusing on money, not building relationships with your current and prospective customers. I can assure you that my guest will not be joining this Gold’s Gym and will like not want to join another one. I’m considering breaking my contract after this cycle, too.
So while this gym has its perks (i.e., good classes and instructors), these types of interactions with management can make for a frustrating experience.

Awful, Awful Gym. Gold’s Gym should be ashamed to have these people representing them. I guess that’s what you get when you allow other people to use your name through franchising. Most of the equipment is ok and there personal trainers are really good, but if you ever move too far away to go to the gym, it is hard to end the contract. They say all you have to do is show proof you moved to cancel, but when you send proof to them and to there billing company, they pretend they lost it and continue to try and bill you. They then pester and harass you, even having a legal department calling you, to try and get you to pay, even though you sent them information asking to cancel and showing you moved away, as they asked you to. STAY AWAY!!! All seems good until they keep trying to bill you and get you to pay for a service that you don’t even use.

I originally posted a review on 6÷3÷2015 and nothing has been corrected. As of 8÷25÷2015 the leg extension machine I mentioned IS STILL BROKEN. Are you kidding me??? that’s over two months. Have some pride in your product. The manager actually posted something about doing something different for the customer experience. How about this… just fix the stuff and stop trying to reply to every bad review. And while you’re at it, go ahead AND FIX THE 2 BROKEN STAIRMASTERS ALSO, THERES ONLY 4 IN THE GYM YOU KNOW.

This gym is convenient for me because I live in Fall Creek and I live literally 1 minute away and go to the gym every morning before work, otherwise I would pay the extra money to go to Lifetime on W Lake Houston or 24hr fitness on 1960.
The amount and the quality of the equipment is very poor. A cable pulley has been broken literally since February. One of only two leg extension machines in the gym is currently broken (been that way for about a week and half), the fly machine has been broken for about a week and a half, a preacher curl machine has been broken for about 2 months as well. There is only 1 row cardio machine in the entire gym. There are only 4 Stairmasters in the gym and 1 is always broken. And chances are when you get on a treadmill its probably broken as well. The gym has only 1 Leg Press machine also. This is the worse gym I have ever been a member of, my middle school and high school gym were better (Cunningham middle school and North Shore High School).
I will be honest and say the people who work there are nice and seem professional, but something needs to be done about the equipment. But its like the old saying «you get what you pay for». I’m not paying as much as I would at Lifetime so I guess its ok for the equipment to stay broken? Hopefully a LA Fitness will be built on the beltway with all the new stuff so all the people who live in Fall Creek, Park Lakes, and other neighborhoods will have more choices.
I asked a front desk worker about the cable pulley machine being broke and was told it would be fixed next week, well next week was last week and again its been broken since February (not an exaggeration).
I called the corporate office and they said it was a franchise location so that might have something to do with the speed of repairs and maintenance (or lack thereof).

Most rude gym I ever been at. Came in with my friend with the free day pass. And a Hispanic young lady in the front desk made my friend go outside and get her ID (knowing very well she wasn’t gonna let her in) her excuse not to let her in was because it was after 8. After trying to figure out our options and black older lady told us to move out the way with a big attitude saying there was people coming in. I don’t understand why they give us a pass and then don’t tell us what restrictions we have. Worst experience and with ugly customer service just like themselves. On top of that they want to charge a fee for a pass? What’s the point of a pass if there going to charge for it? There just rude I recently got transferred from BLAST fitness staff there was super nice nothing compare to this !

Gym Hunting since Blast Fitness on 1960 closed… but obviously gold’s will not be NEXT GYM for my wife and I

I really wanted to join a gym that had hot yoga but the only one near here is still a good 15+ minute drive and there aren’t any stand alone Bikram studios– so really I went for convenience. This place is really close to my house and the childcare is free– two huge pluses. I’ve only been a member for a week now hit so far so good. The kids area can get pretty busy at times which does make me a wee bit nervous for my six month old so for that reason I haven’t even tried going in the evenings because I hear the kids place can get super packed. All in all, so far so good.
Would be awesome if they could add a Bikram style yoga class and/​or a pure barre class.

Improved

This gym is by the biggest but super conveniently located to Fall Creek. I’ve attended the zumba classes, cycling, body pump, body flow, step, and a few more. They have all been great! The instructors are helpful and enthusiastic. The treadmills and other machines have never been filled up. You do however have to have a radio (who has one these days) to tune in to hear the TVs and not just read subtitles. The monthly rate is very low!

Been with golds for 2yrs now. Never any issues. This location is smaller than my home location but its still nice. Its lacking a sauna. Staff is very friendly and i like working out here because there are quite a few bodybuilders who work out here and i just like that extra motivation. Overall a decent place.

Wack. Was told I couldn’t use «guest pass» since I didn’t have a Texas ID/​Drivers License. Manager would not accept my out of state valid driver license or my Federal ID either. I bet they wouldn’t have any issues with my out of state identification if I wanted to pay and join this facility without trying it out first.
Negative –5 Stars still because the response from management did not address the issue.

–1 star: Unprofessional staff (on phones and talking to each other over managing the gym)
–1 star: Unsanitary Equipment (bodily fluids left on equipment 90% of the time)
–1 star: Weights left out (on the floor, on unused equipment, leaning on equipment)
–1 star: Over Crowded (small number of weight equipment and crammed)
–1 star: Unnecessarily inconvenient (don’t leave your only pass at home by accident)
So, I joined some time back, and they are very prepared to sell you all kinds of packages from the moment you walk in. They set you up with a personal trainer and showcase all their classes. The session with the personal trainer consists of him trying to convince you that you need him so you can spend more money. Also, there are a few hidden fees that they will bring to your attention right before you join. So I did what most did and said oh well.
The first thing I noticed was how SMALL the gym was. The staff member told me it gets busy a few times a week. You will wait to use the weights. Again, this is not much of a surprise to me because most major gyms have this issue so I over looked it. My big issue that I don’t see in other gyms is people not wiping sweat off equipment, people not putting weights back, and people leaving weights all over the equipment and floor. I do see this happen from time to time in other gyms but I see it every time I walk into this gym. The staff sees it and nothing is done about it.
If you just want to use the cardio equipment, then its not that bad nor is it all that crowded. I never see anyone clean up after themselves but then again I do my run then leave.
As others have pointed out, the staff are really only at the front or around their desk talking to one another or on their phones.
Don’t forget your gym membership pass because if you do they will turn you away. You can’t have them look you up by name or phone number. They only give you one key chain pass. Hey, don’t worry you can use your phone to get into the gym. Wait. No, you can’t, because if you haven’t already entered your pass bar code into your phone it’s useless.
If nothing I talked about bothers you, then this is the gym for you, but I recommend finding another one and I know that there are a few options in that area. If I find another gym that fixes anything I talked about I would switch even if it cost a lot more.

Reviews I’ve read on here are not fair, or these people are expecting WAY TOO MUCH. it’s a gym people. Is there enough equipment? Yes. Is there a wide variety of equipment? Yes. Do they offer a variety of classes? Yes. Is the facility clean? Definitely! Well, what more can you ask for? No need to nitpick over everything.
This is a super clean facility (Only 1 year old) with a plethora of machines, elipticals, treadmills, free weights, stationaries, pulleys, etc to go around. it’s never too packed. Plus, they’re open full 24hrs Mon-​Thurs. And close at 10pm Friday. And they’re open on Sat. & Sun. til 6pm.

Positives: it’s new, clean, close to work and open 24 hours. It gets the job done.
Negatives: Women’s area: It does not have a door and there are some creepy dudes that just watch the ladies. What’s the point of a women’s area to work out in if there is no door?? The women’s area does not have free weights, no spin bike, 2 ellipticals and 2 treadmills, and very few lifting machines. The biggest annoyance is that male trainers bring their clients into an already very small women’s only area.
The cardio equipment us new, but no TV’s on any of the machines. There are flat screens that you have to strain to see and hope you don’t fall off the treadmill. Plus you have no control on what to watch. In addition, if you wanted to bring an iPad to watch tv or movie, the cardio equipment does not have a place for it. There are no spin bikes on the floor. No variety in ellipticals.
I will work out at the golds next to my house.

Good value for the amenities and great staff. They offer a kids group workout program twice a week with a personal trainer at no additional charge. They also have free child care Monday-​Saturday. I think the hours of child care are 8 – 12 4 – 8 mon-​fri and 8−12pm on sat but call to confirm. My 10 year old sometimes work out but prefers to go to the child care.
I like the included classes like body combat which is an intense kickboxing class and I also like body pump which features a lot of barbell reps. Both classes are 1hr long but you can catch a few «express» 30 min versions on the schedule too.
There are plenty of cardio machines with many available even during peak times. They also have a women’s only workout area with cardio and nautilus equipment which I’ve used a few times.
Overall, the place is huge and has a lot to offer for the average person who wants to get a good workout close to home, and I’m glad they recently added some late 7:30pm classes to the schedule!!!
