Good place to stay!
Few minutes drive to Acadia visitor center and bay habit downtown town.
It’s quite clean and facilitate is new.
Beach in the front of cable is ok, it’s rocky.
But definitely a place to recommend.

I wish I could give this place zero star! This place was disgusting! Baby crawled around our bed for less than a minute and his socks and pants turned black. We had to buy clorox wipes to clean the bathroom and on top of that there was a mouse swimming in the pool! The owner is not very welcoming. We had to go in the office to get toilet paper and the front desk lady had to get permission from him in order to give us a roll!!! We couldn’t wait to get out of there. We decided to go to another place for the rest of the 3 nights we were in Bar Harbor… To make it worst, there was a leave a «leave a note to help us serve you better» paper on the desk so we did before we left. We wrote to please clean the carpet and bathroom better. What do we get? A $ 52 charge! We called and the owner, Kyle says it’s for missing blankets! Lol. Who in their right mind would ever steal anything from this flea infested place??? Beware if you decide to stay here. Check for extra charges. The owner is desperate for money. The place was deserted!

Stayed here for a quick trip to Acadia National Park. The staff was very friendly and welcoming to our two dogs. We had a great view of Frenchman’s Bay. The room was clean, although outdated. but I can’t complain for the price and location. Very nice people and I would definitely go back.

Older facility but clean and comfortable. Good location. We discovered that we had forgotten an item in our room after we got home. I called and requested the very rude day clerk send it to us at our expense. He said he’d get back to me. He never called me back and would not answer my further calls. This place could be successful if they knew how to treat people and did what they promised. Great resturant right across the street!

I love this place! We had a cozy cabin with all the basic essentials none of the unneeded extras. There is a beach right across the road that the colony owns! Also pet friendly and they have a heated pool! such a good find and hidden gem!

Old school cabin and motel! Is it dated? Yup! Is it clean? Super yup! Comfortable? Of the five of us (2 parents and an 18,15 and 12 year old). Only one was uncomfortable in the bed. Guess who it was and win a prize!!! Hint, not a parent!
5 minute walk to FREE bus that will take you where you want to go. Gotta BBQ you wanna use? No prob. Dogs? It’s Bar Harbor for god/​dogs sake! The most dog friendly town on earth.
Super friendly staff, private rock beach with tidal pools for the kids to explore. And a view that can’t be beat.
When you first open the door you smell what many of us smelled as kids on vacation. To the younger folk, that’s the smell of many many families having a fantastic vacation. Stay there, enjoy the park and YOU will have a fantastic vacation that you will talk about forever!
And just in case anyone thinks I’m a paid shill… wifi sucks!

Wow kind of shocked at all the negative reviews for this place. Yes the place is dated a bit but the motel rooms were still comfy and so were the individual cabins we rented as well. Price was super cheap especially since we came on a peak weekend. No frills to the rooms but they were definitley very clean and well kept plus there was a mini fridge in each as well. Even the beds I have to say were comfortable. The grounds were again well kept but nothing to really do there but it was fine since we were in the center of town the entire time anyway and only came back at night to sleep. The staff were really friendly and accomodating both on the phone and in person. Obviously this isn’t by any means a 5 star accomodation and amenitites type of place, but for what it is, and for the price point, I thought it was fair and decent.

We stayed mid-​September (2012) at The Colony, convenient to Bar Harbor and the park entrance yet well removed from the madding crowd. As two couples, we took both halves of a duplex cabin set on a grassy acreage well removed from highway noise. The place was dead quiet at night, a restful change from the usual.
The place was immaculate and newly-​painted outside. Bathrooms looked newly-​renovated. The furniture was a bit gray-​haired but perfectly adequate. It was a cabin, after all.
The folks at the office were pleasant, and gave us no problem refunding our cash balance for the final unused night made necessary by an arising need beyond our control to shorten our vacation.
We consider The Colony to be a good value, and recommend it without qualification.
p. s. Wi-​fi works fine. They have multiple wireless routers that reach all rooms and cabins. TV is modern, with good cable service.

I beg to differ on many other’s opinions of this place. You’re paying under $ 100 in peak season Acadia. If you’re expecting anything beyond a clean, basic room to lay your head, be prepared to pay for it. The Colony is super close to the entrance of Acadia and is across the street from Hull’s Cove, which is lovely. This place has convenience, simplicity, necessities — what else?

We made reservations here after some hesitation and ending up loving it. It’s old school and dated, but we found it clean, affordable, convenient and all we needed for our little trip. The separate cabins are quaint and the view is lovely. Great pool and nice green open space in front of everything. It would be perfect for families traveling together who want to put kids to bed and hang out outside together. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Don’t be scared away by these reviews.

When writing these reviews, especially for hotels & the like, I am very careful to differentiate between «old» and «dirty.» There is a huge distinction there, and if the line gets blurred by a careless review… then the business owners suffer unfairly.
I read a lot of lousy reviews for the Colony. Yes, the place is old, and certainly in need of a face lift. Some fresh paint on the cabins, maybe new carpeting, and updated furniture. However, the last thing it was, was dirty.
We stayed here for 3 nights during our recent trip to Bar Harbor. The cabins are small, and certainly no frills. They were definitely cleaned each day. The shower was old and far from fancy, but it was in decent shape and clean along with the rest of the bathroom. Again, it’s far from the Ritz, but for $ 99 a night… it’s a bargain. The location is great. Right in sleepy Hull’s Cove. You have access to an almost private little beach area across the street. Dogs can roam free there if you are bringing Fido along. They are minutes from one of many entrances to Acadia National Park, and a very short ride into town… about 3miles. Walking distance there is a general store (w/​gas station), The Chart Room, and a pizza/​sandwich joint.
The owners were very nice, and did everything they could to accommodate us on short notice… and also help us extend our stay. This is a fine place to lay your head each night, and if you are spending all day in the room while here… then you are not doing it right! Lol.
The Colony offers larger accommodations for families and a heated pool. The place has WiFi, and cable TV in all rooms.

This place is awful. Sign said 65.00. Turned out to be 85.00. This is on a Tuesday last week in September. Its a dump in the room. I don’t mind the 70’s décor, but I do mind the same furniture that’s obviously been there since then. I did like the foil antenna on my small tv. Hey, at least it’s not a black n white tv.

Stayed out of necessity (availability & cost) & although it was «ok,» we wished we had known more. The website makes for a great smokescreen & in a nutshell, «it is what it is…» Outdated, yet clean summer-​type cabins. Smelled like a «camp,» beds NOT comfortable, needs new paint, broken shower door. The «private beach» is not a beach — it’s just a very rocky spot across the street (yes, the main road runs between shore front & cabins).
The owners really really need to update, as this place could be SO MUCH MORE.

If you’re looking to have a bad weekend, this place is right up your alley. The room looked like a housekeeper hadn’t been through there in weeks. Furniture was dusty, and the bathroom had a strange repugnant odor to it. Really classy seeing as how the kitchen and bathroom were attached to each other. The best thing about this place was walking out of there two days later. I would have rather slept in the backseat of my car. I kind of wish Unilocal had a negative star feature, because this place would certainly warrant one.

The rooms are gross and outdated. They advertised a «honeymoon suite» and so we booked it for our honeymoon. We showed up to find a gross old motel, with the ‘kitchenette’ a microwave in the bathroom, the ‘beach’ was a rocky strip on the side of the highway… and went into town to find something else suitable.
Upon finding a cute B&B (black friar inn, same price, full breakfast, nice rooms, in town!) we went back and explained that we’d prefer not to stay. The clerk said we could go without charge.
Fast forward a week — they charged us for our stay! I called them, and despite my being calm and business like — they were mean and said that we stayed in the room «7 hours using the bed». When I denied this, (we didn’t!) the manager got fiercely defensive, saying I was calling her a liar and then she hung up on me.
My wife called back a few minutes later, also being calm and business like, and the clerk said that the manager wasn’t available and also told her to calm down and called her abusive. What?
Anyway, this place has ZERO pics of the inside of the rooms. That should have been a red flag. Its gross, old, and if you decide not to stay, they will lie and then charge you anyway!
