Neuman K-9 Academy

Wanted to write another fabulous review for Josiah and Summer. They helped us train an additional shiba inu, Ceilidh, who we acquired over the winter. Again– I could not be more pleased with the results. I constantly get compliments about what a wonderfully behaved dog she is, particularly in public in high traffic situations (such as art and wine fairs). We pass by other dogs lunging at their leashes and barking and Ceilidh walks very calmly next to me, looking up for any commands. She is a total sweetheart. Thanks again guys :-)

We sent our 4 year old Yellow Lab rescue to Neuman Training Academy and are very pleased with the results. Our dog participated in the Level 1 and 2 8 week boot camp and we are reaping the rewards. By adhering to the post-​boot camp training protocol, our dog is a pleasure to walk, obedient, listens and no longer has issues in his kennel. Have to admit that it was difficult to be away from our dog for 8 weeks but we are glad that we did it and are considering Level 3 boot camp. If you are considering a training academy, I highly recommend Neuman K-​9.

Our 18 month old labrdoodle, Jack, has completed the three levels of boot camp. I believe he is a happy, well adjusted dog because of his training at Neuman Academy.
When we brought him home from the breeder at five months he was completely untrained. I’m happy I didn’t know what I was about to face. He had never been inside of a house, he couldn’t even walk upstairs.
Now he is the most well behaved dog on the block! I love taking him for walks, driving in my car, to the vet… anywhere, he is so polite. Thank you Summer and Josiah.

When my wife and I sent our rescue Stella to Neuman K-​9, we really didn’t know what to expect. We had a referral but neither of us had experienced using a trainer, and we somewhat skeptical of the results we’d see. Our major issues were her constant jumping, pulling and general energy outbursts. As a pit bull terrier, Stella needed to learn some control as we would have her around young children and our large family. We opted to go with the phase one boot camp (28 days) and hope for the best.
I can honestly say Josiah and Summer completely blew our expectations out of the water. Teaching her general commands of heal, sit, stay and down has been a blessing for us. One of my favorite elements to Stella’s training is the automatic sit response when we stop walking from a heal position. It literally blows my mind every time I see it and just helps display the control we were looking for. We also love the treadmill training she did, as we’ve been able to continue this at home. It is a lifesaver in the winter! Stella still becomes anxious and excited when guests come over, but you can tell she is fighting it and trying to sit. No longer pulls on walks and will mind us in command mode.
All in all, we consider ourselves blessed to have found Neuman K-​9. It has led to so much less stress in our lives and given us a better perspective on how continue training our puppy. Everything from checking her in, professionalism of training, email/​picture updates, to pick up was perfect. We continue to use Neuman K-​9 for boarding when we travel and will never use another facility. We are so happy with our results and experience.

Dropped off a healthy puppy, received an unhealthy puppy. Despite cautioning Josiah and Summer that our rescue puppy responded best to positive feedback, they apparently didn’t take the time to earn her trust or affection, and told us that she «doesn’t try to please people» — the exact opposite of our experience with her. She had a clean bill of health from our vet when we dropped her off, and when we picked her up she had a double ear infection, giardia, and a bladder infection.
UPDATE: After Graceling tested clear for her ear infection and bladder infection, I posted this review and a review to Angie’s List. Josiah Neuman called me and offered to refund our fee or pay vet bills and I told him that I’d think about it. I slept on it, and when I spoke with him the following day, he blamed Graceling for her health problems. Although we won’t know for another few days whether the giardia is gone (you must wait 14 days after finishing treatment to test), I’m hoping that our puppy fully recovers soon. It is too bad that Neuman disclaims responsibility for dogs in his care.

I have taken two of my dogs to Neuman K-​9 Academy. I will be taking my new dog there as well. He does a great job and my wife and I love getting the weekly updates and pictures.

I couldn’t have been more impressed with Neuman K9 Academy. Josiah and Summer, the trainers/​handlers, really know their stuff. I have a 10-​month old Lab/​Husky mix, Langston, who is very energetic and playful. A month ago, he was completely self-​interested and sometimes difficult to control. Multiple 8-​week one-​hour training sessions just weren’t doing it for us… he was still walking me (rather than the other way around), jumping up on guests, eating everything imaginable, and generally ignoring me.
I decided to try the 4-​week Boot Camp I at Neuman K9 Academy, and the results are unbelievable. I have to say I was suspicious that all the reviews on
were so amazing, but I completely understand why! Josiah and Summer have it DOWN. I felt great leaving Langston with them — they’re organized, clear, and super friendly. Langston is now a pleasure to walk with and be with, and even though he’s still a friendly, excitable puppy, he has learned to contain his energy and obey commands.
Josiah and Summer do a great job and upon graduation, spent considerable time with me to go over all the commands and make sure I was comfortable handling my dog. It takes time and practice to enforce the same behavior back on my own turf, but Josiah and Summer made sure I was set up for success, just like Langston was. On top of that, I can go back for two free sessions with them any time in the future. The price point seems high at first, but this was really an investment that Langston and I will reap the rewards of for his entire lifetime. It’s completely worth it. We couldn’t be happier! Despite having two rescued greyhounds, I know nothing about dog training, which became very apparent after we added a White German Shepherd puppy to our «pack.» Sacha was 13 weeks old when he arrived from Chicago to our home near San Francisco. He was terrified and shy. We thought he would adjust after a few days, but his shyness turned into strange behavior and as he grew we realized we could end up with a large, fearful GSD. Scared that the situation was becoming unmanageable, we turned to a highly acclaimed local dog trainer but despite our best efforts, Sacha’s behavior continued to spiral downward. At our wits end, we decided to ship Sacha to Josiah Neuman and Summer Duggan from Neuman K-​9 Academy in Minnesota. It was a huge leap of faith and many people thought we were crazy to ship him to a training facility we had never seen. Twelve long weeks later, Sacha returned accompanied by Josiah and if I didn’t know my dog, I would swear he was a stunt double. Sacha is a completely different dog. He’s full of confidence, well-​mannered, and a pleasure to be around. He’s still on the shy side, but now people can actually pet him and we can bring him out in public without him cowering behind us. Thanks to Josiah and Summer we finally have the dog we were hoping for. They are nothing short of miracle workers and I cannot recommend them enough. If you’re on the fence, take a leap of faith like we did. Neuman K-​9 Academy was worth every penny and you will not be disappointed.
