The Inn At Hudson

I’ve visited The Inn at Hudson, but never stayed here. For what it’s worth, every single individual –and there have been several-​who I have referred to this B&B has raved about their experience with this establishment, not just about the beautiful rooms and gardens and the delicious breakfasts, but about the warm and personal service they received from the owners. If I needed a B&B in Hudson, or was thinking of having a wedding or large party/​reception in this town, The Inn at Hudson would be the first place that I would call.

Rude customer service… called and inquired about availability. Got hung up on and then the man said verbatim «Nope, you’re about the 300^th caller to ask.» Nice service.

When it comes to staying in Hudson, I don’t think you could do any better. My wife and I were here for several days to explore the Hudson Valley and this proved to be a good location from which to venture, putting most places within an hours drive.
Dini greeted us on arrival with a frenetic tour. I say frenetic because Dini’s personality is one that is always in high gear. You can see the entertainer in him. He was very quick to assist with recomendations for dinner, having already forwarned us upon making our reservatino that many of the nicer places in Hudson weren’t open early iin the week (no matter, our special dinners were for following evenings).
The house is indeed grand and you can truly appreciate the care which these two men took to restore it. Having done that kind of work myself, I greatly appreciate both the time and the cost involved in restoration and it shows here. Someone else in a review mentioned thin walls (I didn’t read it, my wife mentioned it). That’s not the case. When we were ensconsed upstairs in our room, we could not hear anything else in the house — not the front door, not the other guests at breakfast, and certainly not the creaky stairs to the second floor which make you truly appreciate an old home (all old stairs should creak to show character).
My wife, who is more the cultural lynchpin of our relationship and I differed a bit on the stay. I think she would have given the overall rating 2 or perhaps 3 stars. I probably a 4. Since I’m writing the review, I’ll offer my 4 but I’ll make careful note of what she perceived as the slips so that others may read as I find so many here on this site to be less than critical in a positive way and thus offering little constructive advice to the prospective traveler. Perhaps that’s because youth is lost on the young who haven’t traveled enough to distinguish between extremes.
The main floor and the gardens/​patio are wonderful. But like so many stayin in a B & B or Inn, you don’t always utilize those aspects of the house. People tend to enter, go to their room, and then come out to have breakfast so I’ll concentrate my comments on both the rooms and the breakfast.
The rooms are large. We were in the Green room and indeed, it is a spacious room. Nicely air conditioned but, and in this respect I’ll have to agree with my wife, showing the signs of an aged lady. While nicely appointed, the antiques are not that comfortable to sit on and the bed was rock hard. Really Dini, you can do better. Perhaps I’m spoiled as we just spent a small fortune on a new mattress and I had been relishing the most exquisite comfort for the weeks prior but my back wasn’t feeling the best after a few nights in bed here.
The bath was nice but it was showing signs of age. Not that it was unclean, but the paint was showing signs of distress. It looks like the renovation had stopped somewhere in between trying to retain the old (the beautiful tile on the wall) and the new (the counter on the older cabinetry). Let’s just say it gave the appearance of something a bit grungy even though as I said before, it was clean. It just wasn’t working here guys. But the water pressure in the shower was fantastic and the hot water never ran out. A TV in the bath is nice and the room was exceedingly quiet. Big plusses in that regard.
We only ate breakfast at the Inn the first morning. I had poached eggs and my wife the French toast. Dini, less is more. The French toast could have been so much better had it not been swimming in a clyingly sweet sauce (and I do mean swimming). Good, but not great though I cannot fault the service. My wife opted to have us eat out for the next few mornings as a result. I certainly cannot say it was bad, just not of the caliber that we’ve had in some other inns and B & Bs.
Overall, a most pleasant experience though I think it could be greatly improved. The old lady is a bit tired and my wife questioned whether Windle and Dini were getting to the point that being innkeepers were what they still wanted to be. With seven renovations under their belt, perhaps their looking toward their next project? Nonetheless, I’d recommend the Inn at Hudson as I do not believe you can do any better in town for ambience, location, and hospitality. It will be interesting to see if my comments spur a search for a new mattress or a new coat of paint in the bathroom!

Great place to stay. Had a large group and had a great time. We were spread out over three different places. All were great especially the Inn at Hudson. Was originally going to stay at the Union Street Guest House but the management there was arrogant. The manager and staff here were outstanding!

My boyfriend and I just spent a magical birthday weekend in Hudson, and we were patting ourselves on the back the whole time for choosing to stay at the Inn at Hudson! We looked at several B&Bs before making our decision, and how grateful I am that we chose this one!
We stayed in the green room, which will now put every other room we’ve ever stayed in to shame. It’s HUGE, the bathroom is gigantic and super comfortable, there is a beautiful remote controlled fireplace, a soaking tub large enough for two, and quite possibly the greatest shower I’ve ever been in (holy water pressure!) We loved the selection of books on our book shelf (Stephen got pretty wrapped up in a collection of political essays) and reading by the huge picture windows, which made the room gloriously sunny and pleasant to be in, despite the dreary winter weather. I can’t recommend staying in this room enough.
As for the overall experience, the only way to describe it is that it’s how you want every vacation stay to be. Breakfast was an absolute blast, especially chatting with our fellow vacationers, and Dini’s breakfasts are just to die for. We had some excellent choices… huevos rancheros, croissant French toast, pancakes of all kinds, and all the coffee you can drink! (The menu was extensive, I can’t remember everything that was on it). Although we usually sleep in on our trips and enjoy lunch as our first meal of the day, we made a concerted effort to be prompt for breakfast, and we certainly were not disappointed.
The inn is so interesting, and I do believe you could spend days exploring. There is a very well-​stocked and diverse library, a cute sunroom (wish we had warmer weather during our stay!) free parking and two very helpful and friendly inn keepers. The main street in town (Warren) is only two streets away, which was wonderful as we would often stop by the inn between jaunts to town so we could recuperate a little bit. We usually spend so much time exploring and shopping during our vacations, so much so that our hotels are literally just places to sleep, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth on this trip… the inn was so pleasant, we had a hard time dragging ourselves outside!

Our recent stay at The Inn At Hudson was simply magical. The Inn owners, Windle and Dini, made sure that our stay was perfect. Our room was upstairs in the front on the south. It was very, very clean and very, very comfortable. The bed was large with a great mattress and luxury linen. Our bathroom was all white tile and large, again– it was spotless. There was a large tub and a big walk in shower with great pressure and lots of warm water. This unique Inn must be seen to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of its design. What a great stay!

Have stayed at The Inn at Hudson twice and have had a fantastic time on both visits! The building in itself is stunning, a fantastic piece of architecture, there’s so much to take in that it borders on overwhelming. The owners, Windle and Dini, really went out of their way to make us feel at home and extremely comfortable. Plus, Dini’s breakfasts were always sumptuous and a delightful way to start the day! The location couldn’t be better, you’re just a ridiculously short walk to Warren St where we spent the majority of our time, either shopping, dining or going out to the nightclubs in the evening. I use this bed and breakfast as the new standard by which I will now measure all others. Thank you, we loved it!

The Inn at Hudson is a jewel! Beautiful interiors, spacious, elegant without being stuffy, and managed by surprising and delightful owners who are genuinely welcoming and helpful. The breakfasts are to die for — Dini is a gourmet chef who whips up the most delicious omelets, etc. The Inn is within easy walking distance to downtown Hudson where you can shop all day and dine in one of the fine local restaurants. Can’t say enough about this treasure! Just a couple of hours by train from New York, it’s a wonderful escape from the city and a destination in its own right.

My Nephew had a wedding near Hudson, and our family and friends stayed at this charming Inn for 3 days in the summer pf 2010. We absolutely loved the Inn, because it was totally unique in it’s eclectic décor, the architecture, the ambiance, and the staff were very accommodating!!! Always close at hand, but left us alone to enjoy our time there! The morning breakfast was unbelievable, too!!!

Dini & WIndle have performed miracles at this place. It is so nice to come home after a meal on Warren Street and have a cognac in the conservatory of this amazing space. This is the perfect time to take in all of the trinkets, art, and treasured pieces of lives well-​lived. My partner & I really enjoyed our two nights in the Green room, with its exceptional bathroom and generous light. I think we found a home away from home and would certainly consider hosting important events here, under their care. Dini’s breakfast was spectacular and filling. Any time is great, but I found our mid-​week visit to really hit the spot. Thanks DIni & WIndle!

An absolutely delightful weekend!
My boyfriend and I just stayed at the Inn over New Years and were blown away by Windle and Dini’s hospitality, knowledge of the area and the meticulous renovation of such a beautiful building.
Their website does not do the place justice, our jaws literally dropped when we entered the foyer.
We stayed in the white room which was very large, full of architectural detail and had a working fireplace.
Dini was kind enough to shuttle us back and forth from the train station and give us the insiders guide to all the restaurants, shopping and music venues. The town is a two block walk from the Inn and is filled with beautiful houses, interesting restaurants and great window shopping.
Breakfast was delicious and served on beautiful china.
We also ate at DA/​BA, Grazin Diner and Helsinki: all good experiences.

Very cozy accommodations. We stayed in the Cocoa Room with the fantastic bay of windows facing toward Warren Street (not directly out front, but next street over). The fireplace is perfect despite being turned on with a remote… how about window shades with a remote? :)
Had a very romatic weekend. Didn’t manage to get to have the breakfast but it smelled good each time we left.
The proprioters are fun loving guys who’ve had a great history together. Be sure to ask about their drag/​rock and roll days… oh and the Lady Bunny. You wont be sorry if you stay. The place is divine… and they’ve done most of the restoring themselves.

The family/​folk at the Inn are living life their way and I loved it. We were offered the Cocoa Room and it was very comfortable with a claw foot tub. The house/​mansion is to die for (naturally). But the best aspect of this inn is that the owners are so open minded and carefree. Dini sang us a song and showed us the album covers of their band. Donald played with our 2 year old in the backyard. They didn’t have a problem that our little Queen Bee played with their dog, yet they were clear what their boundaries were in regards to children and the needs of other guests. Hooray! I want to stay there everyday.

We had booked the Pink room but upon arrival were given the cocoa room which is the second best in the place. Beautiful leather sofa, queen bed giant TV, fireplace (don’t think its functional) but best of all. Claw foot soaking tub. The place is insane all dark wood paneling. It looked like the house jumanji was filled in. I think it might be the house it was filmed in.
But anyways the inn keeper was nice told us about the area. there were at least 6 restaurants in walking distance (we went to three in 1 night) as well as a ton of shoppes and antique stores that were all closed because it was a Sunday night.
The breakfast in the morning was AMAZING. we had a choice of pancakes, omelets or CROISSANT FRENCH TOAST.

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend here back in the fall. I scoured the internet trying to find a place to escape to that was accessible without a car, and stumbled on some glowing reviews of this place. Indeed this place was a great find, and we had a really nice weekend relaxing here.
The inn is in a historical mansion, with all of the original details restored impeccably. The rooms are quite large and tastefully furnished. There was only one other couple staying there, and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. There is an inviting library/​living room and a «greenhouse» sitting room to lounge in. The owners make a delicious breakfast every morning, served in the beautiful formal dining room.
It’s just a few blocks to the main strip in Hudson, with lots of cute restaurants, galleries and antique shops, so there is plenty to do nearby.
The only thing that could make this better if the Inn were located in a slightly more remote/​private location. On the up side, it is very easily accessible by train (actually in walking distance of the Hudson train station), which was more of a priority for us. Also– the rates are incredibly reasonable here. It was $ 200 for the 1^st night, but only $ 125 for the 2^nd. Well worth it! We’ll definitely try to return here again sometime!

«Didn’t she cook us breakfast this morning?»
Yeah, sure enough, the drag queen on the poster cooked us breakfast that morning, and terrific blueberry-​mango-​banana pancakes they were, served on 220-​year old settings. Oh. My. God. Tiffany silver. The next morning, the Lenox Autumn collection circa 1918. Heck, forget the breakfasts, look at these rooms. Chestnut trim, molded ceilings, a huge entrance, this door belongs in a church, stained glass, sideboards… if you love architectural details and well-​chosen furnishings, you will love staying here.
Our room was a large suite, comfortable, but the bed was a queen, too small for The Wife who likes to pretend she’s sleeping by herself. No matter, I slept like a rock, which is a good thing. Sparsely furnished but it appealed to us; the size of the room begs for more but we preferred the choice of less.
The Inn is situated well, merely two blocks from the main avenue of Hudson, NY. Forget your car, except to haul off whatever treasures you’ve found in the stores on Warren Street. As you walk, you’ll see former manses of the turn of the century, some opportunities waiting. It’s easy to get caught up in the possibilities, especially as you reflect on where you’re staying, a former mansion turned into nursing home turned into B&B.
I suppose, all things considered, this was the ideal spot for us as newcomers and visitors. Well-​informed and educated hosts, a splendid start to each day, and a comfortable destination for the end of our adventures. Well-​worth it.
