2 Note Botanical Perfumery

This place is magical. I’m a scent snob – the natural ones usually smell too crunchy; the commercial ones, too much like bug or cleaning sprays. 2 Note lives in an universe unto itself, and the experience of choosing a scent there is as swoony and out-​of-​time as Hudson itself. Carolyn walked me through a number of scents with patience and creativity before finally landing upon the right one for me. (I was celebrating a big birthday and wanted a more grownup signature scent.) She was as invested as I was in finding a magical match for my body chemistry, and the results were wonderful: by blending an oil and a «chord,» we found a fragrance that smelled on my skin of a lover, a fireplace, a whiskey and dark chocolate on a snowy winter afternoon. A few days after visiting the shop, my only regret is that I didn’t buy more quantities since I know I’ll be using these products daily.

Stopped in after passing the store on the walk through the quaint, Warren Street on our way up from the train station.
My husband and I we’re so happy we had decided to pop in. We met the owners of this beautifully designed store and they helped me find a gorgeous and highly unique fragrance and I also purchased their face moisturizer (my husband, after trying it, has already committed to purchasing the next jar of it for us to share.)
We live in Brooklyn so not many chances to get back to Hudson to visit this wonderful store, but fortunately they have a website.

Incredible products, beautiful store and wonderful location. Darcy and Carolyn could not have been more lovely and inviting. Knowing very little about perfumery, I was kindly walked through all products and informed of their composition, benefits etc… I never felt pushed to make a purchase… Darcy and Carolyn clearly love what they do and want to convey that to their customers. I walked out with a handful of products that I love and look forward to returning.

Incredibly well formulated natural fragrances. Carolyn is a master. Besides the fragrances the lotions and other products are masterfully, impeccably made. That and she is a wonderful human to be around.

Normally, I’d never step a non-​moisturized foot in to a perfumery. Let alone, a botanical perfumery. Let alone a musically themed botanical perfumery. Let alone letting alone. Leave me alone.
But this place, oh this place, has won me and my fledgling beard over with its magical man-​elixir: Primo Beard Oil.
I still don’t know what it is, or how its jojoba essence has both softened and revitalized my face-​dwelling follicles, while helping me feel energized and simultaneously putting me to sleep.
This serum is legit. I’d cook my eggs in it if I wanted manageable beard eggs. But I don’t, so my face wins.
Oh, and there’s stuff for women too.

We luckily discovered this shop while it was in Portland.

A beautiful marriage of aroma, music, art, and marketing.
The décor of 2 Note Botanical Perfumery is superb. It’s drenched in white with accents of sheet music and instruments sprinkled throughout, and art from local artists is hung on the walls. It’s a pleasure to be in the space.
The co-​owners are as friendly as they are passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. They explained the nature of their products in great detail to me (I ask a lot of questions), and gave me a lovely tour of their perfumes as I searched for the perfect one for my wife.
Reset my olfactory palette in between sampling fragrances with a whiff of espresso beans? Don’t mind if I do!
I settled on the «Delicato» for my wife, one of their more subtle scents, and she was very pleased with it.
Since I first went in there they’ve added a few products to the line up, including a natural bug spray that smells great and apparently actually works. They recommend including these in gifts bags for wedding guests if you’re hosting an outdoor summer wedding. They’ll also create a batch of a custom scent designed for a special occasion (wedding, anniversary, etc…). Brilliant marketing.
You’ll pay a premium for their goods, but the goods are premium, so you get what you pay for. Even if you’re not looking to buy, it’s worth a visit to 2 Note just to see (and smell) what it’s all about.

i absolutely love this store! i stumbled upon it when i was in town looking at wedding venues. i bought some christmas gifts for friends and they loved them. my bridesmaids are also getting a treat from 2 note. the products are incredible and the owners are really sweet.

I wish I could visit this store more often. Provided me an oil with my FAVORITE scent — sandalwood. Sandalwood reminds me of my grandmother, maharajahs, opulence and all things mystical. And the owner put all these feelings into a bottle.

I stopped in to 2 Note Botanical Perfumery during a recent visit to Portland — my first time in Maine!
Immediately, I fell in love the the boutique. The décor is modern and playful, the scents and aromas are luscious and inviting.
My two favorite products:
Delicato Perfume — My ideal blend, sweet and citrus. Think blood orange and grapefruit, layered with neroli and jasmine. Heavenly. I was impressed to find out that you can buy the perfumes in either an oil, a solid fragrance or a spray.
Prima Face Mist — Bulgarian Rose and French Lavender combine to create this uplifting, toning mist. This picked up my skin (and my day) right away.
Very happy to have stumbled on this hidden gem in downtown Portland!

A great little store. My girlfriend and I love this place and its nice to be able to find natural products. The owners are really welcoming and answered all of our questions. Some really unique products… so keep it local and check them out!
